Abstract: This invention relates to protection covers for safe transportation of Interceptor Valve and Control Valve assembly of steam turbines comprising of Pipe assembly, ring, strip & rubber packing.
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to Protection Covers to ensure safe
transportation of Interceptor Valve and control Valve assembly of steam
turbines from the manufacturing unit to respective power plant site.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Interceptor Valve and Control Valve (IV & CV) assembly regulates the Hot
Reheat (HRH) steam quantity which is supplied to Intermediate Pressure
(IP) turbine. IV & CV assembly consists of Interceptor Valve and Control
Valve in one casing (Fig-6). Earlier IV & CV assemblies were dispatched
without providing any protection covers. However, the disadvantage
associated with the same is that, the IV & CV assembly gets damaged in
transit. This leads to dismantle of the IV & CV assembly & replacement
of damaged parts particularly Valve Spindles 8& Bush etc. As the Valve
Spindles are very expensive and long lead items, the damage of IV & CV
assembly results in financial losses and delayed commissioning of the
project. Hence, there is a need to design & develop protection covers for
safe transportation of IV & CV assembly.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide protection covers for safe
transportation of IV & CV assembly of Steam turbines from the
manufacturing unit to respective power plant site. Thus ensuring timely
erection of IV & CV assembly at site and timely commissioning of the TG-
set.
Another object of the present invention is to provide protection covers
that can withstand the bending moment of IV & CV assembly in case it
topples from the trailer during transportation.
Still further object of the present invention is to provide protection covers
that can be assembled with existing fixing arrangement in the Valve
covers used to assemble the Yoke & Valve Cover at site.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide protection covers .
that can be assembled with the existing fasteners (Studs and Cap Nuts)
used for assembly of Yoke & Valve Cover at site.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention, Protection covers are provided for safe
transportation of Interceptor Valve and Control Valve assembly of steam
turbines comprising of Pipe assembly, ring, strip & rubber packing.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent
from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the
accompanying drawings and wherein:

CV assembly of Steam turbine.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO
THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The present invention discloses Protection Cover to ensure safe
transportation of Interceptor Valve and Control Valve assembly of steam
turbines.
Protection Cover for Interceptor Valve:-
Fig. 3 shows the assembly of protection cover with Interceptor Valve of IV
& CV assembly of Steam turbine. It comprises of four parts i.e. Pipe
assembly (1), Ring (2), Strip (3) & Rubber packing (4). Pipe assembly (1)
is assembled with Valve Cover of Interceptor Valve by using Studs &
Cap nuts (Which are used to assemble Yoke with Valve Cover at site) and
Rings (2). Rings (2) are used to accommodate the extra length of existing
Studs. Strip (3) is to be welded with Pipe assembly(l) to prevent the
movement of Valve Spindle during transit. Rubber packing (4) is provided
in between Strip (3) & Valve Spindle of Interceptor Valve to have a
cushion effect that prevents rubbing of metallic parts.
Fig. 2 shows the details of Pipe assembly for Interceptor Valve of IV 85
CV assembly. It comprises of two parts i.e. Flange (1) & Pipe (2). Pipe (2)
is welded with Flange (1) as shown in above mentioned figure with a
plurality of holes in Flange (1) to accommodate Studs required for the
mounting of Pipe assembly with the Valve Cover.
Protection Cover for Control Valve; -
Fig. 5 shows the assembly of protection cover with Control Valve of IV &
CV assembly of Steam turbine. It comprises of four parts i.e. Pipe
assembly (1), Ring (2), Strip (3) & Rubber packing (4). Pipe assembly (1)
is assembled with Valve Cover of Control Valve by using Studs & Cap
nuts (Which are used to assemble Yoke with Valve Cover at site) and
Rings (2). Rings (2) are used to accommodate the extra length of existing
Studs. Strip (3) is to be welded with Pipe assembly(1) to prevent the
movement of Valve Spindle during transit. Rubber packing (4) is provided
in between Strip (3) & Valve Spindle of Control Valve to provide a cushion
effect that prevents rubbing of metallic parts.
Fig. 4 shows the details of Pipe assembly for Control Valve of IV & CV
assembly. It comprises two parts i.e. Flange (1) & Pipe (2). Pipe (2) is
welded with Flange (1) as shown in the above mentioned figure with a
plurality of holes in Flange (1) to accommodate Studs required for the
mounting of Pipe assembly with the Valve Cover.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to
modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such
variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this
invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention,
which is further set forth under the following claims:-
