The main disadvantage experienced in the .known Bendix drive is that while the driving gear comes forward, it opens the covered parts of the drive. The starter motor is located close to the fan, which sucks the air for cooling the engine. Dust contained, in tne air enters, into tne starter wotor. and hampers the operation of Bendix drive. In some cases, it has been observed that the drive gets jammed due to .accimulation of dust. This leads to stoppage of engine and causes inconvenience to driver as explained below.
When starter motor is jammed, driver can restart the engine
only manually. Further, a jammed motor can be made to work only
after proper cleaning or by gep.lacc&ntthereof. This involves
a cumbersome process oiT expensive replacement of thh-the starter
motor. If jamming of the drive takes place when the starter gear is in contact with the gear on crankshaft, vehicle can not run and needs costly repairing.
The object of the present invention is to provide a protection device for Bendix drive so as to avoid the prior art disadvantages.
This invention provides a protection device for Bendix drive of starter motor for two and three wheeled vehicle comprising

of movable part and dust cap, said dust cap press fitted to said movable part to cover the opening.

As already mentioned, air is sucked when the engine starts ruianning for cooling of the engine. This air carries with it fine dust particles which settle on the fan (4), other parts (10) and (11) and also enters opening (8). This dust so accumulated on parts (4, 10 and 11) does not hamper functioning of starter motor but the dust entered through the opening (8) into the interior of the Bendix drive of starter motor jams the drive and creates difficulties as explained above.
According to the invention, we have designed a dust cap (7). The characteristic features of the dust cap are the inner diameter (7a), which is designed to press fit on the movable part (P). A further characteristic of the dust cap (7) are inner diameter (7b) and length (7c) which are designed to cover opening (8) at any position of gear (5) and without causing difficulty in movement of gear (5). The provision of dust cap as per the invention prevents entry of dust in Bendix drive of starter motor and avoids difficulty explained above.
The dust cap (7) as described can be made of metallic materials or non-metallic materials like nylon or rigid PVC.
The protection device for Bendix drive for starter motor as described herein and as illustrated in the drawings, having variation and/or modification thereof which are known to a person skilled in the art and intended to be covered within the scope of this invention.

WE CLAIM:
1. A protection device for Bendix drive of starter motor for two and three wheeled vehicle comprising of movable part (P) and dust cap (7), said dust cap (7) press fitted to said movable part (P) to cover the opening (8).
2. A protection device for Bendix drive of starter motor for two and three wheeled vehicle as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the dust cap (7) is made of metallic materials or non-metallic materials like nylon or rigid PVC.
3. A protection device for Bendix drive of starter motor for two and three wheeled vehicle as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the dust cap (7) is fixed by suitable means to movable part (P).
4. A protection device for Bendix drive of starter motor for two and three wheeled vehicle substantially as herein described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
