Protection Ring

Abstract: Described herein is a rotor for a permanent magnet generator. The rotor includes a cup-shaped case with a plurality of permanent magnets mounted on its cylindrical wall. The permanent magnets are positioned on a positioning ring provided inside the case. The permanent magnets extend in an axial direction of the case and are circumferentially spaced apart from each other. Leading edges of the permanent magnets are provided with I a chamfer. A circumferential ring is disposed on the leading edges of the permanent magnets and is crimped with the case. Optionally, the circumferential ring is attached to the permanent magnets by a suitable adhesive. An inner surface of the circumferential ring is also provided with a chamfer that aligns with the chamfer on the permanent magnets.

Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention describes an apparatus for holding and protecting magnet during assembly operation of magnet on to the rotor which is cost effective compared to current designs available.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION AND PRIOR ART
Permanent magnet generators are used in two wheelers, three wheelers, and General purpose engines for generation of electricity.
The generator consists of a rotor in which magnets are fixed and a stator consisting of core pack & winding.
Many methods are employed for assembly of magnet on to the rotor and primarily the method employed need to satisfy the following requirements.
a) To hold the magnet against rotor.
b) To protect the magnet during assembly of rotor over the stator, as magnet being brittle
c) will get easily chipped off during assembly.
Few types of methods for assembly of magnet on to rotor commonly employed are
1. Pole shoe Type.
2. S.S case Type and
3. Plastic Cage Type.
wherein above stated methods are provides the results of holding the magnet and protecting the magnet during assembly but these three methods are not cost effective and they simply covers the entire magnets instead protecting at the edges of the magnet which is very crucial in assembly.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENITION
The primary object of the present invention is an apparatus for holding and protecting magnet during assembly operation of magnet on to the rotor.
Yet another object of the present invention is a protecting ring having a chamfer to suit the chamfer on magnet is assembled at the top and bottom of the magnet
Still another object of the present invention is the assembly of magnet and ring is further fixed with metal flow operation.
STATEMENT OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to An apparatus for holding and protecting magnet during assembly operation consist of a deliberate chamfer provided on the magnet; a protecting ring having a chamfer to suit the chamfer on magnet is assembled at the top and bottom of the magnet.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The main embodiment of the present invention is an apparatus for holding and protecting magnet during assembly operation consist of a deliberate chamfer provided on the magnet; a protecting ring having a chamfer to suit the chamfer on magnet is assembled at the top and bottom of the magnet.
Yet another embodiment of the present invention is the assembly of magnet and ring is further fixed with metal flow operation.

Still another embodiment of the present invention is the protecting ring is made of a non magnetic material
Few types of methods for assembly of magnet on to rotor commonly employed are shown in Figures la to lc.
The present invention describes a simple method to achieve the above stated requirements which is cost effective compared to current designs available.
A deliberate chamfer is provided on the magnet as shown in fig.2. A locating ring made out of a non magnetic material having a chamfer to suit the chamfer on magnet is assembled at the top & bottom. The assembly of magnet & ring is further fixed with metal flow operation as shown in fig.3

The locating ring achieves the function of holding the magnet against the rotor & also protects the magnet from damage during assembly operation.

We claim:
1. An apparatus for holding and protecting magnet during assembly operation consist of
a deliberate chamfer provided on the magnet; a protecting ring having a chamfer to
suit the chamfer on magnet is assembled at the top and bottom of the magnet.
2. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein the assembly of magnet and ring is
further fixed with metal flow operation.
3. The apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein the protecting ring is made of a non
magnetic material
4. The apparatus for holding and protecting magnet during assembly operation
substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings
