TECHNICAL FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to the technical field of quenching. More particularly, it relates to a newly designed quenching tank for Lab Scale Quenching with an agitating setup for rapid cooling of workpieces.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Quenching is a widely used technique in metallurgy to obtain desirable mechanical properties in a workpiece. The quenching tank is a container filled with quenching medium. When the workpiece is immersed in the tank for cooling, it must be able to ensure that the workpiece is uniformly quenched at a reasonable cooling rate, so that the workpiece meets the technical requirements.
In the existing quenching tank, a large amount of vapor blanket is generated when the workpiece is immersed in the tank to cool, which hinders the heat removal rate and reduces the effectiveness of the process.
At the same time, when the workpiece is continuously immersed in the tank to cool, the temperature of the cooling water or oil will gradually rise, which affects the cooling effect of the workpiece. There are various high end quenching tanks available in market, but they are very costly. Further, it takes lot of time to operate and therefore it does not solve the purpose for the kind of quenching required for small workpieces at a lab scale.
Therefore, their exist a need for a portable setup which is cost effective and for operational requirement is easy to move to near furnace to minimize quench delay.
The present invention addresses the above problem by providing a newly designed quenching tank with an agitating setup which is economic as well as portable.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The principal object of the present invention is to disclose a newly designed quenching tank with an agitating setup for a lab scale requirement.
Another object of the present invention is to disclose a cost effective and portable Quenching tank which is easy to move to near furnace to minimize quench delay.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts, in a simplified format, that are further described in the detailed description of the disclosure. This summary is neither intended to identify key or essential inventive concepts of the disclosure nor is it intended for determining the scope of the disclosure.
The present invention discloses a portable lab scale quenching tank (100) for metallurgical heat treatment processes, comprising a tank body (8) configured to contain a quenching medium; a workpiece tray (10) positioned within the tank body (8), supported by a supporting arm (12) and handle (16); a stirrer (18) connected to a pair of pulleys (24) via a supporting rod (22); a pair of guiding wheels (14) and (20) mounted on the top of the tank body (8), enabling linear and upward movement of the workpiece tray (10) and stirrer (18) inside the tank body (8); and a stirring handle (26) for controlling the operation of the stirrer (18).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
For the purpose of promoting an understanding of the principles of the present disclosure, reference will now be made to the various embodiments and specific language will be used to describe the same. It will nevertheless be understood that no limitation of the scope of the present disclosure is thereby intended, such alterations and further modifications in the illustrated system, and such further applications of the principles of the present disclosure as illustrated therein being contemplated as would normally occur to one skilled in the art to which the present disclosure relates.
It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the foregoing general description and the following detailed description are explanatory of the present disclosure and are not intended to be restrictive thereof.
In an embodiment of the present disclosure, a quenching tank is disclosed. The quenching tank comprises of a stirring setup for cooling workpieces during metallurgical heat treatment processes. It further includes a tank body for containing the quenching medium, and workpiece tray.
Hereinafter, a quenching tank according to an embodiment of the present disclosure will be described with reference to Figure 1. Fig. 1 illustrates a schematic perspective view of the present invention according to an embodiment of the present invention. As shown in Figure 1, the quenching tank (100) includes a tank body (8), workpiece tray (10) with its supporting arm (12) and handle (16); stirrer (18), pair of guiding wheels represented a (14) and (20) a supporting rod (22), a pair of pulleys (24), stirring handle (26).
The guide wheels (14) and (20) are mounted on the top of the tank body (8) using on or more connecting means. The work piece tray (10) and stirring setup (18) are disposed on the guide wheels. The guide wheels are utilized for the linear movement of the work piece tray (10) and stirrer (18) inside the tank body (8). Further, the guide wheels enable upward movement of the workpiece tray (10) through handle (16). This movement allows placement of workpiece on the workpiece tray (10).
The stirrer or agitator (18) is connected to the pair of pulleys (24) through supporting rod (22). The pulleys ensures flexible movement of stirrer during the operation.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the tank body (8) is made of a material that is resistant to the quenching medium used and is designed to hold the workpiece tray (10) and the quenching medium. The workpiece tray (10) is placed inside the tank body (8) and is used to hold multiple workpieces during the quenching process.
The quenching tank (100) of the present invention can be used with water or oil-based quenching media. The tank body (8) is designed to be compatible with different types of workpieces and can be customized to meet the specific needs of the user. The quenching tank is easy to operate and requires minimal maintenance.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the agitating setup in the quenching tank provides uniform cooling rates on the workpiece surface by removing the vapor blanket.
ADVANTAGES AND APPLICATION
The advantage of this newly designed quenching tank is that it offers a unique agitating setup that provides uniform quenching of the workpiece. The agitating setup is helpful in adjusting the internal temperature of the quenching tank, uniformizing the temperature of the medium inside the quenching tank, reducing impurities such as scale in the quenching medium. The uniform cooling also helps to minimize the risk of cracking in the workpiece, which can occur when there is excessive thermal stress. It has numerous other benefits that can lead to increased efficiency and productivity in the overall operation.
