Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The present innovation relates to a Quick acting mechanism for securing and dismantling bilge plates. More particularly, the present innovation relates to a Quick acting mechanism for securing and dismantling bilge plates used in catwalk assembly for safe passage over the pipelines and other deck obstructions in machinery and weapon compartments. Further this innovation shall mitigate mechanical shocks; vibrations and noise generated from improper securing mechanism of bilge plates whilst its use in the ships during voyage.
BACKGROUND ART
All Indian ships built to date were provisioned with bilge plate which were secured using CSK screws which lacked quick removal/securing operation and were not very easy for maintenance either, further loosening of fasteners was the cause of undesirable noise generation.
In the prior art a Japanese copyright application JPH06227480A discloses bilge outer plate part structure and assembly thereof which does not require the block reversal, can reduce the high place work, provide the high assembly precision, secure safety, can reduce the plate relaying welding, shorten the welding time, and secure high precision,
OBJECT OF INVENTION
When vessel sails at high seas, the machinery and weapon spaces, in particularly are

some of the highly manned compartments, hence we can expect maximum footfall in these catwalk spaces and expect regular crew movement for accessing machinery/weapon areas for monitoring the systems, checking pipelines, etc. Further, bilge plates with improper securing arrangement shall add to undesirable noise generation and time consuming activity. These access areas are to be free of hindrances with an economically provisioned mechanism to dismantle/ secure bilge plates whenever required. To mitigate issues as above, a quick acting mechanism to secure/dismantle bilge plate was envisaged to aid the crew and eliminate unwanted noise generation/vibrations/mechanical shocks relative of bilge plates securing mechanism.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
The present innovation relates to provisioning Quick acting mechanism for securing/ dismantling bilge plates with least effort and time.
Therefore, as per a principle object there is provided a Quick Acting Mechanism for securing/dismantling bilge plate which can be operated by using any tools such as screw driver.
As per another object, there is provided a locking plate having a slot is included in the mechanism, the left hand screw guide pin is secured to bilge plate by a nut, the adjustable spring is placed within the guide pin and actuated by round head bolt which passes through pide pin and locking plate and locked by a nut and lock nut and finally secured with split pin.

As per yet another object, there is provided a compression spring placed within the recess of guide pin to minimize the transmission of vibro-acoustic noise.
As per an exemplary embodiment, the ship support frame is cladded with a rubber gasket to absorb mechanical shock, vibrations and damp noise.
In order to fulfil the objective and ease the securing and dismantling of Bilge plates the design of this mechanism necessitates features which are simple to operate with least effort, opened/secured in quickest time and to maintain rigidity of the joint during its service life cycle.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
This innovation relates to a Quick acting mechanism for securing and dismantling bilge plates used in catwalk spaces for safe passage over the pipelines and other deck obstructions in machinery and weapon compartments of the ship. In general, the bilge plates axe secured using normal fasteners and which tends to slacken from joints over a time span. Slackening of joints frequently is undesirable as it reduces the clamp force on the joints and produces a rattling noise adding up to an already noisy compartments, viz, machinery/weapon spaces where it is fitted. Further bilge plates should be easily removable/securable for accessing the pipelines or fittings and form a rigid joint without causing any vibrations. Hence, the challenge to design, develop, test and successfully implement Quick acting mechanism for securing /dismantling bilge plates with least effort on board vessels was envisaged.
The invention of quick release mechanism as shown comprises a substantially left hand screw guide pin 1, constructed by any suitable material, preferably steel, secured to bilge plate by a suitable means with M20 hex nut 3.
The above sub-assembly is further configured with a spring 6 within recess of guide pin 1 and then with washer 4, followed by right hand screw M10 bolt 2, passing through slot of locking plate 5, and secured with M10 nut and lock nut 7, finally secured by split pin 8, The quick acting mechanism is thus fixed to bilge plates and the bilge plate is placed

on frame structure, the assembly functions by pushing the bolt 2 in way of guide pin 1 and by turning 90 degrees (quarter turn) using simple tool such as screw driver for easy securing/dismantling bilge plate with frame structure.
Table-A is the List of Items of the Bilge plate locking mechanism for each place of plate.

ADVANTAGES AND USES OF INVENTION
a) This invention with Quick acting mechanism enables faster dismantling/ securing of the bilge plates and undertake emergency maintenance underneath inaccessible region of bilge plates.

b) This invention is operable by rotating the bolt by 90 degrees (quarter turn) by using any tools such as screw driver, thus minimising the time and effort for opening/ securing of bilge plates.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION
The Quick acting mechanism for securing and dismantling bilge plates operable by quarter turn of the bolt by any tools such as screw driver shall be used in ships.
Although the foregoing description of the present invention has been shown and described with reference to particular embodiments and applications thereof, it has been presented for purposes of illustration by way of examples and description and is not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the particular embodiments and applications disclosed. The particular embodiments and applications were chosen and described to provide the best illustration of the principles of the invention and its practical application to thereby enable one of ordinary skill in the art to utilize the invention in various embodiments and with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. All such changes, modifications, variations, and alterations should therefore be seen as being within the scope of the present invention as determined by the appended claims when interpreted in accordance with the breadth to which they are fairly, legally, and equitably entitled.
