(M.P.) INDIATHE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES AND ASCERTAINS THE NATURE OF THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED
TECHNICAL FIELD:
This invention relates to an attachment to be used on construction machine, especially excavators, to allow quick change of attachment on the machine like bucket to rock breaker or grapple etc. known as Quick Coupler.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION;
In construction machine, like excavator, bucket. Rock breaker or grapples is directly connected to it. It is very difficult and time taking to attach the bucket. Rock breaker or grapples and also change between these. Manual handling of these attachments is not good from the safety point of view also. Manually it takes about 45 minutes for change of attachments from bucket to breaker on the excavator, whereas it takes only 2 to 3 minutes when this quick coupler is used. Without the use of coupler many times on the construction side two different excavators have to be used. One fitted with Rock breaker and one with bucket. After using this invention the need of two different excavators is removed. Hence the quick coupler saves this cost of having two excavators. It also avoids manual handing of heavy equipment like bucket, Rock breaker or grapples.
OBJECTIVE OF INVENTION^
The main objective of the invention is as follows:-
1. To increase the efficiency on construction site since time of changeover of attachment is drastically reduced.
2. To reduce the cost, since after using quick coupler one excavator is sufficient for change over of bucket and rock breaker whereas without coupler it is not possible.
3. It provides safety, since manual handling of heavy equipment like bucket or rock breqker or grapple is not done.
SALIENT FEATURES OF OUR QUICK COUPLER:-
1) tt is invented with Safety features that protect the Rock breakers or the attachments from falling off even in case of failure of power packs of the excavator.
2) It is made to suit the Indian operating conditions.
3) It is compatible on most of the Excavators available in the market.
4) If can accommodate all the models of Rock Breaker brackets, buckets available in the market.
INVENTION SUMMARY:
Coupler is an attachment to be used on construction machines [especially excavators) to allow the quick change of attachments on the machine. It eliminates the need of manually driving out and inserting the mounting pins for each attachment. Use of quick coupler avoids manual handling of heavy attachments &. hence provides safety. Quick coupler is an attachment device which is connected between excavator and bucket/rock breakers/grapples etc. The main parts of the coupler are main body assembly, clamping attachment and cylinder of the coupler. Pins, safety lock pins, circlips and nut bolts for fixing arrangements, are all | the part of this invention.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
(Refer figure No 2 - Exploded view.)
The quick coupler mainly consists of main body [ 1), Clamping Attachment Assembly {Sr. No 5), Hydraulic Cylinder ( 13), 4 types of pins (2, 8, 9 and 11).
The cylinder assembly is coupled to the main body assembly by pin (11). The clamping attachment assembly is coupled to the main body assembly by pin (8). The hydraulic cylinder is the prime mover for the clamping attachment. It gives movement to the clamping attachment. It is due to this part that the clamping force is given to the coupler. The cylinder is double acting with a pilot operated check valve. This valve enables if to lock it in any position even when the supply of the oil is stopped. The Ni- Lock Nut (4) is a simple nut made of Steel, used for locking. The function of this nut (4) is to prevent the pin from falling. The coupler is attached to the excavator with the Pin (2) as shown in figure no 1. The pins are fixed to the excavator machine. The safety arrangement consists of a Pin and safety lock pin (refer Figure no 2 exploded view Sr. no.9 and 10). This pin is manually inserted before the operation and manually taken out after the operation is completed.
Quick couplers are used on construction machines (especially excavators) to allow the rapid change of buckets and attachments on the machine. They remove the need of manually driving out and inserting the mounting pins for attachments. Use of quick coupler avoids manual handling of heavy equipment & hence provides safety.
Quick couplers are most common on hydraulic excavators. Quick couplers do not normally have a specific function themselves. They do not carry out handling or digging operations, but when installed on a machine they become a part of the overall system. They are usually mounted on the machine by means of the pins that would otherwise be the mountings for the bucket/rock breaker or attachment.
Types of quick coupler
The method of operation (the picking up and releasing of buckets and attachments] causes the next divergence in invention. The types can be described as manual, semi-automatic, and automatic.
Manual
The operation of this type is done, usually by the use of tools, at the coupler itself. The operator needs to leave the operator's station (usually the cabin) to go to the end of the work equipment in order to effect the release of a bucket or attachment, and to do the same in order to attach the next bucket or attachment to be used.
Semi-automatic
With this type the hydraulic system of the machine is used to operate the main attachment mechanism but the manual operation of a safety device is necessary at the coupler itself to ensure that the bucket or attachment is safely locked onto the coupler. The safety device is intended to prevent the release of the bucket or attachment in the event of the failure of the hydraulic system, or other major failure of the attachment mechanism. The safety device is most commonly a safety pin which needs to be inserted manually to prevent one of the components in the quick coupler moving to release the bucket or attachment.
Fully automatic
This type uses the hydraulic system of the machine to operate the main attachment mechanism and have an internal safety device. In this operation of safety device which is usually a safety lock pin inserted automatically by the use of hydraulic systems. This is equipped with safety feature to prevent the release of the bucket or attachment in the event of a failure of the hydraulic system.
Within the above three categories there are many further divergences in operating principles and detail invention.
WORKING OF THE INVENTION:
Operation: -Operation of Quick Coupler-is as follows
Mounting of quick coupler on excavator: -
The quick coupler is mounted on the excavator boom assembly as shown in the Figure no.l with the help of 2 pins ( 2) and then locked by Ni-lock Nut and Hex Bolt ( 4 and 3 J.
The inlet and outlet port of the cylinders are then connected to the power pack of the excavator. The desired pressure and flow settings are then adjusted. These differ from model of couplers and excavators. Now the coupler is ready for operation.
Clamping the attachment on the coupler for the first time:-
The safety lock pins ( 10) and pin ( 9) are laken out. The clamping attachment assembly of the coupler is now free to move. Then with the help of the power pack of the excavator this assembly can be moved with the help of the valve of the excavator of the power pack. Then the coupler is used to clamp the Bucket or Rock breaker by adjusting the position of the clamping attachment assembly. Once the Clamping is in position the pin ( 9) is inserted and locked by Pin ( 10). Then the attachment can start its operation.
Changing the attachment on the coupler: -
Take out the safety lock pin (10) and the pin ( 9). The clamping attachment assembly of the coupler is now free to move again. By adjusting the position of the clamping attachment assembly de-clamp the mounted attachment. Then repeat the above procedure (Clamping the attachment on the coupler for the first time) to clamp the required attachment. Once the Clamping is in position the pin ( 9) is inserted and locked by Pin (10). Then new attachment can start its operation.
