Abstract: A rail detection device (110) comprising: a start-region rail-start-point respecifying unit (137) that, unless portions of both of two rails are detected on the basis of rail portions detected from an image, sets a corrected start region by shifting a start region for detecting the rails upward and specifies the lower side of said corrected start region as a corrected start point of the two rails; a rail candidate detection unit (133) that detects a plurality of corrected rail candidates as candidates for edges of the two rails in the corrected start region; a start-region rail selection unit (135) for selecting the corrected rail candidate the lowest end of which is closest to the corrected start point from among the plurality of corrected rail candidates as an interim corrected rail portion; and a start-region rail disappearance determination unit (136) that, if the distance between the lowermost end of the interim corrected rail portion and the corrected start point is less than a first threshold value, determines said interim corrected rail portion to be a corrected rail portion, and determines whether or not both of the two rails have been detected on the basis of the corrected rail portions.
