Design of a fixture which is used when a device under test needs to be simulated with simultaneous
movements around two axes.
. Back Ground of the Invention
The present invention relates to electromechanical devices, such as micro‐electromechanical
systems (MEMS). More particularly, this invention relates to fixtures for assembling
electromechanical devices to measure various parameters of a moving object for example, velocity,
orientation, and gravitational forces through the use of a combination of sensors ,
The invention is particularly well suited for achieving a high‐yield process for fabricating three‐axis
IMUs having a three‐dimensional assembly configuration,
Summary of the Present Invention
In accordance with one aspect of present invention is to provide a tool that facilitates effective
interface between the IMU and the 2 axis rate table.
In accordance with second aspect of present invention is to provide a tool that rigidly fixes the IMU
on the rate table and helps in simulation having high accuracy for each of the axis.
In accordance with another aspect of present invention is to provide a fixture that ensures easy
assembly and disassembly of the IMU and positional accuracy of the sensors for each of the axis.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a lighter yet rigid fixture
which provide a platform where the device under test needs to be stimulated with simultaneous
movements around two axes.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a fixture that can be
properly and effectively utilized by lesser skilled individuals.
Brief Description of the Drawing
The features of the present invention will become more apparent and descriptive in the description
when considered the mechanical drawing.

the geometrical tolerances required in simulation having high accuracy of the sensors for each of
the axis.
Detail Description of the Invention
A key challenge for inertial MEMS testing is to develop hardware motion platforms and testing
protocols which provide inertial MEMS developers with the tools they need to quickly make
accurate assessments of devices; this applies to fixture development
MEMS inertial sensors, such as accelerometers and gyros, are some of the most challenging types of
sensors to test because their characterization requires an extensive range of physical stimuli
The most important and common tests for characterization are scale factor (offset and sensitivity),
non‐linearity error, bias, resolution, sensitivity to temperature (drift), and sensitivity to acceleration
(drift).
The present invention provides fixtures suitable for assembling electromechanical devices, including
IMUs.
The fixture is design for positional accuracy of the sensors for creating simulation having high accuracy
for each of the axis.
The rate fixture is mounted on the rate table to provide positional accuracy to the sensors.
The rate fixture is made up of aluminum alloy and hence free from the magnetic effects. It proved
light, durable and rigid platform for the positional high accuracy required for the sensors.
The invention specifically comprises an improved fixture which caters system configuration of the
mechanical & electrical subassemblies and the computer interface requirement of the 2 axis motion
simulator.
The fixture is designed in such away that it provides east access to the sensors i.e. easy assembly and
disassembly of the sensors from the fixture platform.
The fixture is designed in away that it can be handled with less skilled operator.
