and
ASHOK B. LALL ARCHITECTS , Description:FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention relates to balcony railings. In particular, the present invention relates to pre-fabricated balcony railings. More particularly, the present invention relates to readymade, light-weight balcony railings fitted with fibre cement panels.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Conventionally, many civil constructions, such as commercial or office buildings require conventional railings, like RCC parapet walls, glass railings, MS railings, wooden railings, concrete or steel railings.

PRIOR ART

These conventional railings require a longer time to be made. These railings are also are heavy and involve high costs of manufacture and installation.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

Some of the objects of the present invention - satisfied by at least one embodiment of the present invention - are as follows:

The object of the present invention is to provide easy-to-fix balcony railings.

Another object of the present invention is to provide light-weight balcony railings requiring less manpower for assembly, transport and fixing thereof.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide balcony railings, which need shorter cycle time to manufacture, assemble and fixing on balconies.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide balcony railings, which use uniformly shaped panels to impart enhanced aesthetics to balconies.

Yet further object of the present invention is to provide balcony railings, which can be produced in an assembly line in an industrial set-up or factory.

These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from the following description when read with the accompanying figures of drawing, which are, however, not intended to limit the scope of the present invention in any way.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a readymade, light-weight balcony railing fitted with fibre cement panels, said railing comprising:

• a prefabricated steel frame of predefined shape and size; and
• at least one fibre cement panel fitted in said steel frame;

wherein said fibre panel is provided with a plurality of uniformly arranged predefined fascia cut therein by means of machine-controlled water-jet process to make uniform fascia at very high rate and give an aesthetically appealing look.

Typically, each of said fibre panel is assembled to the steel frames on-site and each railing is prefabricated in predefined size according to the balcony sizes.

Typically, each of said prefabricated balcony railing is assembled in the respective balcony by means of nut-bolt arrangement.

Typically, the fascia comprises different shapes, such as diamond shape, circular, profiles of uniform patterns.
Typically, the steel frame is a prefabricated mild steel frame (MS) made of readily available MS angles.

In accordance with the present invention, there is also provided a readymade, light-weight balcony railing fitted with fibre cement panels, said railing comprising:

• a prefabricated MS steel angle frame of predefined shape and size; and
• a plurality of fibre cement panels fitted in said steel frame on-site;

wherein said fibre panel is provided with a plurality of uniformly arranged predefined fascia cut therein by means of machine-controlled water-jet process in predefined sizes according to the targeted balcony sizes.

Typically, the steel frame is a prefabricated mild steel frame (MS) made of readily available MS angles.

Typically, the prefabricated balcony railing is assembled in the respective balcony by means of nut-bolt arrangement.

Typically, the assembly time for each balcony railing set is in the range of 10 to 25 minutes per 3 metre-perimeter of balcony, preferably 15-20 minutes per 3 metre-perimeter of balcony.

Typically, the weight of each balcony railing set is in the range of 15 to 30 kg, preferably 20-25 kg.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

The present invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the non-limiting accompanying drawings of the readymade balcony railings with cement panels.

Figure 1 shows a pre-fabricated or readymade balcony railing with fibre cement panels fitted on the balcony of a building.

Figure 2 shows one of the fibre cement panels with diamond-shape cut-out design used in the balcony railing shown in Figure 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS

Figure 1 shows a pre-fabricated or readymade balcony railing with fibre cement panels 20 fitted on the balcony of a building. It consists of a mild steel frame 10 in which a plurality of uniform diamond-shape (or any other aesthetic shape) cut-outs 30 formed by means of water-jet cutting operation, are fixed by means of conventional nut and bolt arrangement.

Figure 2 exemplarily shows one of the fibre cement panels 20 with diamond-shape cut-out design 30 used in balcony railing shown in Figure 1. However, it should be understood that the cut-outs 30 may also be configured in any other design/shape and in any number, suitably cut-out in fiber cement panels 20 by using water-jet machines.

This makes cut-outs 30 in the fiber cement panels 20 uniform and aesthetically appealing as well as making them very fast and economical to produce.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In order to achieve the above-mentioned objects of the present invention and to overcome the disadvantages associated with the existing railings, RCC parapet walls, glass railings, MS railings, wooden railings, the inventors have developed pre-fabricated balcony railings with fiber cement panels in accordance with the present invention.

These balcony railings are pre-fabricated at site yard using mild steel (MS) angles and fiber cement panels. MS angles and fiber cement panels are normally procured from the vendors.

Mild steel angles are used for the preparing the frames of the railings and fiber cement panels are subjected to water-jet cutting in specialized workshops therefor.

Here, the fiber cement panels are given a predetermined shape, e.g. diamond shapes, using strong jets of water. Such diamond shape may be replaced by any other shape as per requirement/customer demand.

Since water-jet cutting process is completely machine controlled, the fiber cement panels obtained after water-jet cutting operation are exactly identical in shape and size.

These fiber cement panels of predetermined shape are then assembled to the mild steel angle frame at the site yard. Thereafter, the assembled railings are shifted to target balconies.

These assembled railings are then easily fixed to the balconies by means of nut-bolt arrangements. In this way, the overall balcony railing set-up is converted into a single plug-and-bolt arrangement.

Such assembled balcony railing is a readymade, pre-fabricated component with nut and bolt arrangement, which is easy to handle and fix within 15 to 20 minutes for a balcony perimeter of 3 meter.

The unique quality of this balcony railing is that it has a predetermined design, e.g. diamond-cut pattern of fiber cement panels, which can be quickly fixed on mild-steel angle frames.
This product is much lighter in weight as compared to the conventional RCC parapet walls, glass railings, MS railings, wooden railings, concrete or steel railings. The pre-fabricated balcony railings are also easy to fix on balconies.

The total weight of the all the component being assembled in such a pre-fabricated balcony railing is around 20-25 kg, thus it can easily be handled by 2 persons for the purpose of fixing on a balcony.

Moreover, the total cycle time required to fix one complete pre-fabricated balcony railing set is around 15 to 20 minutes, thereby speeding-up the construction. Therefore, it offers excellent efficiency of the manpower being used.

TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES & ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE

Some of the technical advantages of the readymade, pre-fabricated balcony railings with fiber cement panels of predetermined shapes are as follows:

• Railings can be pre-fabricated at site yard.

• Water-jet cutting operation ensures obtaining identically designed fascia.

• Fiber cement panels facilitate any predetermined shape thereof.

• Fiber cement panels can be assembled to MS angle frame on site and easily fixed to balcony by nut-bolt arrangements.

• Assembly of railing is easy to handle, fix within a very short time.

• Total weight of balcony railing assembly only 20-25 kg makes it easy to handle by minimum manpower and for fixing on a balcony.

• Low cycle time per balcony railing speeds-up the construction process.

• Fit for just-in-time delivery to minimize on-site storage and handling costs.

• Offers economical solution to satisfy all performance criteria, while adding aesthetic value to the building.
