THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE NATURE OF THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED.
Field of the Disclosure:
The present disclosure generally relates to a blower for boosting air- flow in a vehicular environment. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a blower for directing hot air or cold air towards the rear-passengers as per their requirement.
Background of the Disclosure:
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system refers to a technology of indoor or automotive environmental comfort. The HVAC system delivers hot or cold air to enclosed spaces such as vehicle interior or residential or commercial buildings. In order to boost air flow from the HVAC system to enclosed spaces that are to be maintained in a thermal comfort zone, various types of blowers are used. A large variety of blowers for regulating air flow inside the vehicle are available. Generally, a ducted centrifugal fan is used as a blower for use with the HVAC system of a vehicle.
However, most of the prior-art blowers direct air along a single direction. Further, most of the prior art blowers fail to efficiently regulate the flow of air inside the vehicle as per the requirements of the rear-passengers. Still further, none of the air-flow regulating means are designed keeping in mind different needs of the rear passengers. More specifically, most of the prior art blowers fail to operate at different modes and lack flexibility to change mode during operation in order to cater to different needs of the rear-passengers.
Further, most of the prior art blowers are capable of handling either only cold air or only hot air. Most of the prior art blowers are complex in construction and require a large number of moving parts and are subject to regular break-downs, thereby requiring regular maintenance.
Accordingly, there is a need for a blower for use with the HVAC system of a vehicle that can direct air towards different directions depending upon the requirements of the rear-passengers. There is a need for a blower that efficiently regulates the flow of air inside a vehicle as per the requirements of the rear-passengers. Further, there is a need for a blower that can operate at different modes and is able to change mode during the operation for catering to the different needs of the rear-passengers. Further, there is a need for a blower that receives cold air or hot air from the HVAC system and delivers the hot air or cold air to the rear-passengers as per the selected mode of the blower.

Detailed Description of the Accompanying Drawings:
The disclosure will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which do not limit the scope and ambit of the disclosure. The description provided is purely by way of example and illustration.
Referring to Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings, a rear blower 100 with mode selection in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure is illustrated. The rear blower 100 receives cold air from a vehicle cabin and hot air from HVAC and delivers either cold air to the face or chest of the rear passengers or hot air to the feet of the rear passenger based on the selection made by the rear passenger. More specifically, the rear blower 100 operates either in face mode in which the rear blower 100 blows cold air towards the face and chest of the rear passenger or in foot mode in which the rear blower 100 blows hot air towards the feet of the rear passenger.
Referring to Figure 2 and Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings, schematic representations depicting the basic components of the rear blower 100 are illustrated. The rear blower 100 includes a blower scroll 02, an impeller 04 housed inside the blower scroll 02, an inlet face opening 06, an inlet face flap 08, an inlet foot opening 10, an inlet foot flap 12, a inlet foot duct 14, an outlet flap 16, an outlet face opening 18 and an outlet foot opening 20. The impeller 04 is housed inside the blower scroll 02 and rotates inside the blower scroll 02 for boosting the air received in the blower scroll 02. The inlet face opening 06 is in fluid communication with the cool air of the cabin.
The inlet face flap 08 is adapted to swivel along the directions A-A' as illustrated in Figure 3, for selectively opening or closing the inlet face opening 06, thereby defining the open and closed configuration of the inlet face opening 06. In the open configuration of the inlet face opening 06, the cold air from the cabin is received in the blower scroll 02 and the cold air is boosted by the impeller 04 rotating inside the blower scroll 02. In the closed
configuration of the inlet face opening 06, the cold air from the cabin is restrained from entering inside the blower scroll 02.
The inlet foot opening 10 is in fluid communication with the hot air from the HVAC foot vicinity area or cabin area of the vehicle via the inlet foot duct 14. The inlet foot flap 12 swivels along the directions B-B' as illustrated in Figure 3, for selectively opening or closing the inlet foot opening 10, thereby defining an open and a closed configuration of the inlet foot opening 10. In the open configuration of the inlet foot opening 10 as illustrated in Figure 4, hot air from the HVAC foot vicinity area/cabin is received in the blower scroll 02 and the hot air is boosted by the impeller 04 rotating inside the blower scroll 02.
In the closed configuration of the inlet foot opening 10 as illustrated in Figure 3, the hot air from the HVAC foot vicinity area/cabin is restrained from entering inside the blower scroll 02. The outlet face opening 18 and the outlet foot opening 20 are configured such that, at one time either the outlet face opening 18 is open or the outlet foot opening 20 is open, while the other is closed. More specifically, the outlet flap 16 swivels along the C-C direction, in the first position of the outlet flap 16 as illustrated in Figure 3, the outlet foot opening 20 is closed and the outlet face opening 18 is open and in the second position of the outlet flap 16 as illustrated in Figure 4, the outlet foot opening 20 is open and the outlet face opening 18 is closed.
The opening and closing of the inlet face opening 06, inlet foot opening 10, outlet face opening 18 and the outlet foot opening 20 are based on the selections made by the rear-passengers. More specifically, the rear blower
100 functions either in a face mode or in a foot mode. In the face mode, the basic components of the rear blower 100 are arranged as illustrated in Figure 3. More specifically, in the face mode of operation of the rear blower 100, the inlet face opening 06 is in the open configuration, the inlet foot opening 10 is in the closed configuration to restrain entry of hot air into the blower inlet, the outlet face opening 18 is in the open configuration and the outlet foot opening 20 is in the closed configuration.
Due to such an arrangement of the basic components of the rear blower 100 in the face mode, the cold air from the vehicle cabin enters inside the blower scroll 02, where it is boosted by the impeller 04 and directed to the outlet face opening 18, from the outlet face opening 18 cold air is directed towards the face or chest of the rear-passengers.
Similarly, in the foot mode of operation of the rear blower 100, the inlet face opening 06 is in the closed configuration, the inlet foot opening 10 is in open configuration, the outlet face opening 18 is in the closed configuration and the outlet foot opening 20 is in the open configuration. Due to such an arrangement of the basic components of the rear blower 100 in the foot mode, hot air from the vehicle cabin enters inside the blower scroll 02, where it is boosted by the impeller 04 and is directed to the outlet foot opening 20, from the outlet foot opening 20, hot air is directed towards the feet of the rear-passengers.
The mode selection means can be operated mechanically or electronically.
