FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to novel rear bumper of vehicle for serving the purpose of
mud flap.
PRIOR ART
Currently in vehicles, the rear mud flap (or mud guard) 1 is provided to protect
the road users behind the vehicle from road debris (such as mud, pcbbles,
glass, sticks) being hit at them. Conventionally mud flap is a separate part
made of plastic or rubber mounted on the rear bumper 2 and rear fender lining
3. This also adds aesthetic to the vehicle as shown in fig. 1 and 2.
Thus, fig. 1 shows the conventional rear bumper with a separate mud flap, its
joinery with the rear fender lining by means of a clip is shown in fig. 2.
However, it is associated with the following disadvantages:-
- Additional tool cost.
- More inventory cost.
- More assembly time.
Now, reference may be made to the following known arts:
To provide a resin molding capable of suppressing deformation of a body part
even when a mounting part is retained to a body part in thc state in which the
mounting part is turned from a molding position to a mounting position
around a hinge part in the resin molding in which the mounting part is
integrally molded to the body part through a hinge part. ; SOLUTION: A side
mud guard is formed by integrally molding the body part, the mounting part
for mounting the body part to the vehicle, and a hinge part for connccting
these. The mounting part is made turnable between a molding position, i.e., a
position form at molded making the hinge part as a center and a mounting
position, i.e., a position form when the body part is mounted to thc vchicle.
When the mounting part is positioned at a mounting position, a retaining part
engaged with an engagement part of the mounting part and retaining the
mounting part to the mounting position is provided on the body part. In at
least base end of the retaining part, thickness becomes thicker than a portion
other than the retaining part in the body part.
Therefore it is not a Rear Bumper. It is a resin part with side mud guard
integrally molded to it.
An all terrain vchicle (ATV) includes a plurality of whccls and a fcnder
structure positioned over the wheels having a support portion designed as and
defining a load-bearing surface. The fender structure may include a plurality of
raised support portions that increase rigidity and load capacity. Additionally, it
is not necessary to support either the fender structure or the support portion
using the bumper of the ATV. The fender structure may be formed with plastic
material, such as polyethylene, polypropylene or fibcrglass-charged
polyethylene, and may be manufactured using a blow-molding techniquc or an
injection molding technique. The ATV may also include mud guards and a floor
board that extcnds between the mud guards. The mud guards and thc floor
board may be formed as an integral or one piece unit with thc fcndcr strzcture.
The mud guards can be injection molded or blow-molded while the fender
structure can be blow-molded.
This patent talks about fender with integrally molded mud guard constituting
an integrated fender system.
To provide automobile part items small in number, manufactured at low costs
and having good appearance. SOLUTION: A mud guard integral type side step
is constructed in such a manner that a mud guard and a side stcp are
integrally formed by using synthetic resins, and the mud guard is made of a
soft resin and the side step is made of a hard resin. A mud guard integral type
bumper is constructed in such a manner that a mud guard and a bumpcr are
integrally formed using synthetic resins, and the mud guard is made of a soft
resin and the bumper is made of a hard resin.
This invention is directed to side step with integrated mud guard, wherein side
step is a part used in the side sill area to climb up the vehicle.
JP2006315590A: To realize both the filler pipe protection function and the
mud guard function by one protection member having excellent mounting
workability and excellent rigidity. ; SOLUTION: A rear end of an end in the
vehicle width direction of a rear bumper face is located outside the vehicle
width direction with a predetermined distance separate from an inncr side face
of the vehicle width direction of a rear wheel house. A filler pipe is arranged on
the inner side of the vehicle width direction of a rear wheel K in the rear wheel
house. A protection member having the entirely integrated structure is
arranged in the rear wheel house. The protection member has a protector part
which extends in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body to cover the filler
pipe from the inner side of the vehicle width direction, and mud guard parts to
block a space betwccn the front end of the rear bumper face and thc inncr side
face of the rear wheel house.
This is again having different functionality of protecting the filler pipe.
US 1804304A:- A vehicle side protector which cornpriscs a plurality of
detachable interconnected rods forming a side bumper which extends along at
least a portion of the length of a side of a vehicle at a distance outward from
the vehicle. The protector is particularly useful for protecting the sides of a car,
truck, or van from being damaged as a result of the impact often caused by
other vehicle doors in parking lots.
It is having provision of extension of rear bumper longitudinally i.e. in the
direction of length of vehicle. This leads to increase in length of vehicle, thereby
making it longer.
Hence, the present invention has been proposed for simplifying the structure
and reducing its cost.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The primary object of the present invention is to provide novel rear bumper of
vehicle for serving the purpose of mud flap which is simple in construction.
Another object of the present invention is to provide novel rear bumper of
vehicle for serving the purpose of mud flap which is cost effective.
Further object of the present invention is to provide novel rear bumper of
vehicle for serving the purpose of mud flap which is efficient.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: conventional rear bumper with separate mud flap.
Fig. 2 shows: cross-sectional view of rear bumper joincry with mud flap
according to prior art.
Fig. 3 shows: cross-sectional view of rear bumper integrated with mud flap
according to present invention.
Fig. 4 shows: detail view of rear bumper with integrated rriud flap of present
invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The present invention is directed to novel rear bumper of vchicle for scrving the
purpose of mud flap.
As it is known, the mud flap is used to protect the road user coming behind the
vehicle from the mud particles, pebbles, grits, etc. As the wheel moves forward,
it has a tendency to throw all the particles, coming its way, backwards.
Particularly, on rainy day or a muddy track, this may provo harmful to thc road
users coming behind the vehicle.
In order to obviate the aforesaid problem, a mud flap is additionally required to
be provided with the bumper as already described with reference to fig. 1 and
2. Thus, the mud flap is provided as an extension to rear bumper in thc area,
which is exposed to the rear wheel (T). However, the mud flap being provided as
a separate part is associated with some disadvantages, which is again already
discussed.
1
Hence, the present invention has been introduced, which can overcornc the
problems associated with the prior arts and at the same time function
efficiently.
The instant invention comprises integration of rear bumper with mud flap of
vehicle. Thus, the invention focuses on integration of two parts into a single
unit.
The rear bumper is integrated with mud flap to constitute a single extended
member. Thus, thc shape of bumper is modified in such a way so as to derive
the functions of mud flaplguard provided separately in known art.
Thus, functions of both rear bumper and mud flap are combined by means of
present invention.
Now, reference may be made to fig. 3 and 4, in which the rear fender lining (1)
is extended downward to be fastened with the rear bumper integrated mud flap
(2) provided in proximity to the rear tire (T). The fender lining is connected to
the rear bumper by means of a clip (3). Thus, the extended rear bumper taking
the shape of the mud flap serves the functionality of the mud flap as well.
The rear bumper integrated mud flap can be manufactured by the method of
injection molding. Further, it is made of material such as resin.
The materials/methods are given as example. Thus, other materials and
methods obvious to a person skilled in the art are understood to be within the
perview of the invention.
The above provision eliminates use of a separate mud flap unlike prior art. It
also adds to the functionality of rear bumper, the functionality of a mud flap.
Additionally it serves the purpose of deriving cost benefits. Also, thc advantage
of reduction in effort in assembling the unit and hence the reduction in
assembly time caters to the multifunctional benefits of the invention. The
necessary functionality, i.e. to cover the whccl in such a way so as to prcvent
any deflection of mud particles, pebbles, grits, etc, is achieved by changing the
shape of rear bumper.
To obtain the same aesthetic effect as in separate mud flap, the corresponding
portion of the rear bumper is painted in different colour.
Advantageous Features
- Decrease in no. of child parts (mud flap &, fasteners).
- Elimination of a separate tool required for mud flap.
- Reduction in cost associated with tool making.
- Reduction in inventory cost.
- Reduction in assembly time.
-
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to bc within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
