Abstract: A number plate mounting structure for two wheeler having a projection adapted to be attached to the rear of the vehicle, a number plate holder attached to the projection and a slit on the opposite vertical walls of the number plate wherein a number plate is slidably inserted into the number plate holder.
Rear number plate mounting structure
Field of the invention:
The present invention relates to a "Rear number plate mounting structure" for a two-wheeled vehicle and more particularly relates to a rear number plate mounting structure for a scooter type motorcycle.
Background of the invention:
Conventionally, in two wheeled vehicles and more particularly in scooter type motorcycles the rear number plate is mounted on the rear fender by means of fastening members. Projections and holes are provided at appropriate locations so as to enable fitment of the said rear fender on to the rear part of the frame. The size of rear number plate is country specific and varies between country to country. It is left to the agency or the regulatory authorities to provide the number plate of suitable size. The vehicle manufactures need to provide only the fitment provision on the rear part of the vehicle to suit the number plate size and mounting holes. This poses a problem on the vehicle manufactures to have different rear fender with various mounting holes to suit country specific requirements. This results in low productivity in the vehicle assembly line and mould and operating cost required to produce fender with various mounting holes.
Hence the objective of the present invention to overcome the above problem by providing a standardised rear plate mounting structure which can accommodate different types and sizes of number plate
The present invention thus seeks to provide a new and inventive form of rear number plate mounting structure
Object of the invention:
The present invention proposes a number plate mounting structure for a scooter type two-wheeled vehicle.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a number plate mounting structure which can accommodate any number plate size and shape thereby satisfying the country specific requirement.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a number plate mounting structure, which is compact in nature.
Another object of the present invention is to fix the number plate mounting structure to the frame of the scooter type motorcycle thereby eliminating the need for providing fenders having different number plate hole positions.
It is yet another object of the present invention to secure a wide gap between the number plate mounting structure and the rear fender thereby enhancing the visibility of the number plate.
It is further an object of the present invention to provide a number plate mounting structure in order to attain miniaturization and facilitation of replacement of the number plate.
Another object of the present invention is to improve assembly workability and the appearance of the vehicle.
Other features and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction will the accompanying drawings that illustrate by the way of example, various features of the embodiment of the invention.
Brief Description of Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
FIG. 1 is a view of two wheeled scooter type motor vehicle according to the present invention.
FIG. 2 shows the number plate holder according to the present invention.
Detail Description of the Drawings:
The present invention deals with a number plate mounting structure for a two-wheeled vehicle and more particularly to a scooter type motorcycle. For the purpose of illustration it will be illustrated with the help of a scooter type two-wheeled vehicle.
Any known scooter type vehicle can be divided into three major portions, the front portion F, the middle portion M and the rear/tail portion R. Referring to figure 1, the front portion comprises of the head tube, the handle bar, the front suspension, front fender, the front wheel with necessary brakes and the body panels; the middle portion comprises of floor board, the seat support, the fuel tank, the battery, the utility box etc; and the rear/tail portion comprises of the engine support, the riders seat, the rear shock absorber, rear fender and the back wheel with suspensions.
In assembling such a vehicle, especially the body covers, there are many sub assemblies, which are independently mounted onto the frame at different locations. The body covers are mounted to the frame using brackets. According to the present invention and referring to Figure 2, the rear portion 201 of the scooter type motorcycle is provided with a number plate mounting structure 202 comprising a projection 203 and a number plate holder 204 integrally formed. The projection 203 of the said number plate mounting structure 202 is fitted on to the rear most portion 201 of the frame of a scooter type motorcycle. The said number plate holder 204 is substantially rectangular in shape. Further the section of the said number plate holder 204 is square (two inverted V shaped halves are joined together to form a square section), with one of the edges projecting upwards.
The said number plate holder 204 is provided with a slit 205 on centre of the square section on either sides of the rectangular shaped holder 204 whereby the number plate can be easily inserted into the holder 204 by sliding it. This sliding provision in the number plate holder enables the user to use different size of number plates 206. Holes are also provided at the slit area to clamp the number plate rigidly. All sides of the inner face of the inverted V section of said number plate holder is provided with an array of LED or line LED behind a transparent plate integrally moulded in the inverted V section.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We Claim:
1. A number plate mounting structure for two wheeler comprising:
a projection adapted to be attached to the rear of the vehicle;
a number plate holder attached to the projection; and
a slit on the opposite vertical walls of the number plate;
wherein a number plate is slidably inserted into the number plate
holder.
2. The number plate mounting structure as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said number plate holder is preferably square in shape.
3. The number plate mounting structure as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said number plate holder is made out of two inverted V shaped halves joined together to form a square section.
4. The number plate mounting structure as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said number plate holder is provided with LED to illuminate the number plate.
