Rear Suspension System For A Motorcycle

Abstract: Invention claimed in present disclosure is related to a motorcycle and more particularly to the rear suspension system with two shock absorber units on both the sides arranged in such a manner that the distance of one shock absorber unit remains fixed from the pivot joint and the other shock absorber arm is fixed in such a manner that the ratio of maximum to minimum distance from pivot joint is 1.6:1 as well as the mounting angle for the shock absorber units ranges between 90°-180° with respect to horizontal axis of the motorcycle. The claimed arrangement is providing more stability and the higher load carrying capacity for the motorcycle.

Specification

Field of invention

The subject matter described herein, relates to a motorcycle and more particularly relates to the rear suspension system of the motorcycle.

Background of the invention

In the existing technology, use of rear suspension system is common and the mounting of the suspension units are generally mounted on both the sides of the rear wheel axle and if the strength of the either the suspension unit is required to be increased then stability of the front part goes away. Thus a different configuration or a different method is required which can facilitate the greater stability and higher strength of the motorcycle at the same time.

Summary of the invention

The present subject matter herein described is related to a motorcycle having a frame with front and rear frame member, front and rear wheel assembly and a front suspension system and a rear suspension system. Said rear wheel assembly is connected to the frame through a swing arm and said swing arm is connected to the frame by a pivot joint and connected to the rear wheel assembly to the wheel axle. Said rear suspension system comprises multiple first and second shock absorber units secured on left and the right side of the motorcycle and the swing arm is connected to the rear frame member through the first and second shock absorber units.

The distance of the first shock absorber unit is fixed from the pivot joint and the distance of the second shock absorber unit ranges between 304 mm- 496 mm. The mounting angle for the first and second shock absorber unit ranges between 90°-180° with respect to horizontal axis of the motorcycle.

These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present subject matter will become better understood with reference to the following description and appended claims. This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form. This summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used to limit the scope of the claimed subject matter.

Brief description of the drawings

The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus, are not limited of the present invention and wherein:

Figure 1 is an exemplary representation of the embodiments of the claimed invention.

Figure 2 is showing an alternate arrangement of the embodiments of the claimed invention.

Detailed description of the invention

The embodiments disclosed below are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed in the following detailed description. Rather, the embodiments are chosen and described so that others skilled in the art may utilize their teachings. The application of this invention is extended to all kind two wheeled motorcycles.

In the present disclosure, Figure 1 is showing an exemplary arrangement of the rear suspension assembly through the side view of the motorcycle parts. Motorcycle frame (3) has front frame member (4) and rear frame member (5). The pivot joint on the centre part (13) of the frame (3) is connected to the rear wheel axle (10) through a swing arm (11).

Rear part of said swing arm has multiple mounting brackets known as lower mounting brackets (7, 9) onto which the lower part of first (1) and second (2) shock absorber unit is mounted. Upper part of first (1) and second (2) shock absorber unit is mounted over the upper mounting brackets (6, 8) on the rear frame member (5). The first shock absorber (1) unit is secured over the swing arm (11) such that the rear wheel axle (12) comes after the said first shock absorber unit (1) and the distance of the first shock absorber unit (1) is fixed from the pivot joint (12) and ratio of maximum to minimum distance of the second shock absorber unit (1) from the pivot point (12) is1.6:1.

For example, the distance (b) of the rear wheel axle (10) from the pivot joint (12) is 437 mm then the first shock absorber unit (1) is mounted at 406 mm from the pivot joint (12) i.e. at a lesser distance then the distance of rear wheel axle (10) from pivot joint (12).

Further, as shown in figure 2 and comparing it with figure 1, second shock absorber unit (2) can be placed before or after the rear wheel axle (10) and the distance (c) of the second shock absorber unit (2) from the pivot joint (12) may vary from 304mm - 496 mm or in other words ratio of maximum distance from the pivot point (12) to minimum distance from pivot joint (12) is 1.6:1. Further, the angle of mounting (8,
