Rear Tandem Axle Slipper Type Leaf Spring Suspension System

Abstract: Disclosed is a slipper or balancer suspension system for rear tandem or tridem axle of multi-axle vehicle and a method thereof to provide improved traction. The said system comprising: leaf springs 1,2 with slipper interface coupled on each of the drive and tag axle having asymmetric lengths with the short side towards the centerline (wheel-base) of the vehicle; serviceable/replaceable wear pad units providing wear surfaces in vertical and lateral directions and coupled at each of the said slipper leaf spring interface; one or more suspensions brackets 3,4,5; a combination of adjustable 6,7 and fixed torque rods10 at each axle to provide longitudinal stability and axle alignment; and with a provision to add extra main leaves in each of the brackets and equalizers; characterized in that the differential spring rate between drive and tag axle springs in conjunction with position of suspension brackets enables higher load transfer to drive axle and hence providing better traction.
