Specification

Rear Wheel Cover

Field of the invention:

This present invention relates to "Rear wheel cover" and more particularly related to a rear wheel cover for a scooter type motorcycle.

Background of the invention:

Conventionally in two wheeled vehicles the rear fender is mounted on a vehicle frame structure above a vehicle rear wheel disposed above the rear wheel. The rear fender protects the frame and the body panels and the engine from mud and water splashes. However in case of scooter type motorcycles having smaller wheels, the wheel assembly are relatively lower compared to bigger wheeled motorcycles. Such shorter wheel assemblies are provided with sheet metal rims. The wheel rim, brake panels etc are exposed water / mud while wading through in rainy reason. Under such conditions of usage the sheet metal rims gets corroded resulting in safety hazard and hence replacement. In order to overcome this in the prior art, alloy wheel rims are used which needs higher stiffness thereby increasing the cost. Further water is also prone to enter to brake drum thru' the brake panels causing poor braking performance. Hence there is a need to protect the wheel assemblies from such environmental factors on scooter type motorcycle having sheet metal wheel rims. Generally in the above two wheeled vehicles apart from rear fender there is no arrangement provided for covering the rear wheel against scuffs and impact damage. The said rear fender alone covers the engine side partially and on the other side (i.e., muffler side) it covers the tip and width of the wheel. Normally the front and the centre portion of the rear fender is mounted to the crankcase.

The present invention thus seeks to provide a new and inventive form of rear wheel cover, which is very effective, yet is easily fitted to a range of wheels whilst being easy to remove and replace when required.

Object of the invention:

The present invention proposes a rear wheel cover, which includes substantially a dome shaped cover having a rear fender integrated with it.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a rear wheel cover which will protect the wheel rim, brake drum and engine from mud splashes.

It is another object of the present invention to provide an arrangement for covering the rear wheel against scuffs and impact damage.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a rear wheel cover structure without affecting the airflow through it.

It is further an object of the present invention to provide a rear wheel cover that would enhance the appearance of the vehicle.

Other features and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction will the accompanying drawings that illustrate by the way of example, various features of the embodiment of the invention.

Brief Description of the Drawings:

The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein FIG. 1 is a view of two wheeled scooter type motor vehicle according to the present invention.

FIG. 2 showing the exploded view of the integrated rear fender wheel cover according to the present invention.

FIG. 3 showing assembled condition of the integrated rear fender wheel cover according to the present invention.

Detail Description of the Drawings:

The present invention deals with a rear wheel cover for a two wheeled vehicle.

For the purpose of illustration it will be illustrated with the help of a scooter type two wheeled vehicle.

Any known scooter type vehicle can be divided into three major portions, the front portion F, the middle portion M and the rear/tail portion R. Referring to figure 1, the front portion comprises of the head tube, the handle bar, the front suspension, front fender, the front wheel with necessary brakes and the body panels; the middle portion comprises of floor board , the seat support, the fuel tank , the battery, the utility box etc; and the rear/tail portion comprises of the engine support, the riders seat, the rear shock absorber, rear fender and the back wheel with suspensions.

In assembling such a vehicle, especially the body covers, there are many sub assemblies, which are independently mounted onto the frame at different locations. The body covers are mounted to the frame using brackets.

A rear fender that protects the rider and the engine from mud and water splash is mounted on the upper tubes of the frame assembly by means of brackets and screws.

According to the present invention the rear portion of the two wheeled vehicle is provided with an integrated rear fender and wheel cover shown in Figure 2.

The said integrated rear fender wheel cover is a three piece construction having left, right and top piece which are fixed together to cover the wheel by the means known in the art.

Referring to Figure 2, the said integrated rear fender wheel cover left side piece, front and middle portion 201 is mounted on to the crankcase. The said integrated rear fender wheel cover right side piece on the muffler side of the vehicle extends downwards so that it circularly covers three fourth of the wheel.

The said right side piece of wheel cover on the muffler side is connected to the top piece approximately by 120-150 degrees at the topmost portion of the wheel cover right piece. The said integrated rear fender wheel cover thus forms a domed structure on the muffler side, which does not rotate along with the wheel.

The said integrated rear fender wheel cover is preferably made up of polymer resin or any such material.

Figure 3 shows the integrated rear wheel cover in assembled condition with the rear wheel and crankcase.

The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.

We Claim:

1. A three piece integrated rear fender wheel cover for a scooter type motorcycle, comprising:

a left side piece extending circularly downwards having a cut out in the middle portion to accommodate crankcase;

a right side piece on muffler side extending circularly downwards; and a top piece connecting the left side and right piece.

2. The three piece integrated rear fender wheel cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said right side piece extends downward circularly to cover preferably three fourth of the wheel.

3. The three piece integrated rear fender wheel cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said integrated rear fender wheel cover is preferably of polymer resin.
