Abstract: This invention relates to a reception device, a reception method, and a program for controlling the operation of an external device connected with the reception device in linkage with the progress of AV content. A trigger extraction part extracts trigger information about control of an application program to be executed either by the reception device proper or by the external device connected to the reception device in linkage with the AV content, the trigger information being transmitted together with the AV content. If the extracted trigger information indicates a command addressed to the reception device proper, then a device proper control block controls the operation of the application program in accordance with the command indicated by the trigger information. If the command indicated by the extracted trigger information is addressed to the external device, then an external device processing part transfers the command indicated by the trigger information to the external device. This technology can be applied to a digital broadcast reception device that receives a digital TV broadcast signal, for example.

[Claim 1]
A reception device comprising:
