Reception & Analysis Of Arinc 429 Data For Avionics Systems

Abstract: ARINC 429 is a data transfer standard for aircraft avionics. It uses a self-clocking, self-synchronizing data bus protocol Messages are transmitted at either 12.5 or 100 kbit/s to other system elements that are monitoring the bus messages. The system for reception & analysis of ARINC-429 is designed in LabView 8.2 platform with its bus tool analyzer. This system will be used to analyze the data being received either on RS422 or RS 232 based serial avionics systems. The avionics system may be Solid State Flight Data Recorder or Health Monitoring System etc. The ultimate objective of the system is to provide the ease of analysis to the user for different ARINC-429 critical parameters before flight operations or one can call it ground run. This analysis will be used to rectify the fault in sub systems or systems installed on the aircraft before actual flight operations.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This development,in Aerospace domain, facilitates assembler/designer to make
the system more informative in respect to analyze the ARINC-429 parameters &
to resolve the fault in system or subsystems installed on aircraft.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The earlier method was to test the parameters only on predefined values to full
fill the requirement of testing, while during root cause analysis of entire aircraft in
respect to ARINC 429 parameters, one has to know the behavior of the system
on entire range of the parameters, whether it is user range or entire possible
range. In generalARINC-429parameters are very cumbersome to be analyzed
due to its availability in complex 32 bit format.Hence, this concept of Reception &
Analysis of ARINC-429 data for Avionics Systemswas required.
SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
System for Reception & Analysis of ARINC-429 data for Avionics Systemsis
developed in Lab View Environment andcomprises of followings:
1. Reception&Analysis of ARINC-429 executable developed in Lab
ViewEnvironment
2. Rugged / Non Rugged Laptop/computer
3. RS 422/RS 485 to USB 2.0 Converter hardware.
4. Shielded Loom assembly
5. ARINC Bus Tool Transmitter / Aircraft installed with ARINC-429 equipment
The System for Reception & Analysis of ARINC-429is developed in such a
fashion that it can receive & analyze upto 256 parameter (Which is the limit for
ARINC-429 Protocol) on the single channel with different Labels, can declare the
result in approximately 2 seconds only.
Software will provide engineeringdata of avionics bus on RS-422 protocol by
using the complex mathematical formulas for the conversion.
Software functionality is broadly divided into following parts i.e
1. Keeping the records of transmitted values in 32 bit format from ARINC -429
Transmitters / Aircraft Installed with ARINC equipment.
2. Reading the data from RS422 / RS485 through converted USB 2.0 serial port
3. Making of frame i.e 128 words/sec,256 words/sec or 512 words/sec
4. Converting the 32 bit format ofARINC-429 into valid data in raw only
5. Converting the raw data in engineering values
6. Comparing the data of transmitter&received engineering data
7. Result Display& possible reason of error& remarks.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In accordance with one aspect of present invention, the system for Reception &
Analysis of ARINC-429 data for Avionics Systems is developed as per the
hardware& software defined above. The signals transmitted either by Aircraft
installed ARINC-429 system or bus tool transmitter are given to the avionics
system whose performance in collaboration with health of the aircraft systems or
subsystem is being measured.
Thattransmitted data is being read by the Reception & Analysis of ARINC-429
software& the data of entire received frame of ARINC-429 is formatted into a
frame of 256bits/sec or 512 bits/sec according to need of the avionics
systemwhich tells the no. of bits a system can handle per second. Now this
formatted frame is send on the RS 422/ RS 485 serial port at predefined baud
rate i.e 9600 words per second or higher or lower which is controlled according to
the need of the system.
In accordance with second aspect of invention , The converter module i.e RS
422/ RS 485 coverts the serial data coming at predefined baud rate to USB 2.0
protocol for the analysis of received data.
In accordance with another aspectof invention, software converts the raw data
available at frame of 256 bits/sec or 256 bits/sec into the engineering values
according to the complex mathematical formulas for the conversion.Once the
engineering data is available, it would be used for the comparison with respect to
transmitted data either from Aircraft installed system or bus tool transmitter. On
behalf of that comparison result is declared & if system is faulty then instructions
for the possible reason of fault.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention, System for Reception
& Analysis of ARINC-429 data for Avionics Systems is developed in LabView
Environment andcomprises of followings:
1. Reception&Analysis of ARINC-429 executable developed in Lab
ViewEnvironment
2. Rugged / Non Rugged Laptop/computer
3. RS 422/RS 485 to USB 2.0 Converter hardware.
4. Shielded Loom assembly
5. ARINC Bus Tool Transmitter / Aircraft installed with ARINC-429 equipments
The System for Reception & Analysis of ARINC-429is developed in such a
fashion that it can receive & analyze upto 256 parameter (Which is the limit for
ARINC-429 Protocol) on the single channel with different Labels, can declare the
result in approximately 2 seconds only.
Software will provide engineering data of avionics bus on RS-422 protocol by
using the complex mathematical formulas for the conversion.
Software functionality is broadly divided into following parts i.e
8. Keeping the records of transmitted values in 32 bit format from ARINC -429
Transmitters / Aircraft Installed with ARINC equipments.
9. Reading the data from RS422 / RS485 through converted USB 2.0 serial port
10. Making of frame i.e 128 words/sec,256 words/sec or 512 words/sec
11. Converting the 32 bit format of ARINC-429 into valid data in raw only
12. Converting the raw data in engineering values
13. Comparing the data of transmitter & received engineering data
14. Result Display & possible reason of error & remarks.
