Reconfigurable Display Controller

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a device (100) for reconfiguration and control of analog display unit. The device (100) includes one or more input ports (102) adapted to receive one or more portable multimedia storage. The device (100) couples one or more output channels (104) with an analog display unit. The device (100) includes one or more adapters (106) configured to receive a set of high definition digital multimedia signals from the one or more portable multimedia storage and generate a set of analog audio-visual signals. A controller (110) activates the one or more adapters (106) based on user inputs. One or more input keys (108) are configured to receive a set of input signals pertaining to selection of a first set of predefined functionalities of the device (100). The controller (110) is enabled to perform a first set of operations on the selected digital multimedia files and transmit the analog audio-visual signals to the one or more output channels (104).

Specification

The present disclosure relates to the field of display controller. More particularly, it relates to a device for reconfiguration and control of analog display unit.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in
understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the
information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed
disclosure, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] Old analog television and projectors cannot be disposed of into
landfills. Instead, recycling of electronic waste is a sustainable habit that can be
adopted with low cost reconfiguration of existing products. Therefore there is
need in the art to develop a device that can reconfigure old analog television,
monitors and projectors into automated display devices that can be used to display
images and videos as electronic photo frames. High definition digital signal to
standard definition analog signal converters are reported in existing literature.
Another device discloses a composite video converter that can upscale the output
video resolution. Conversion steps for old laptops into electronic photo frame also
exist in the current literature. However, none of the existing disclosures provide a
controller for automatic reconfiguration of the analog display unit.
[0004] The proposed device discloses a controller for reconfigurable analog
display units. The controller can be configured to perform a set of operations based on user input, the set of operations determining the sequence, repetition rate, duration and mode of transition of the selected digital multimedia files stored in one or more portable multimedia storage coupled to the proposed device. The proposed device provides an easy, low cost solution for recycling old electronic television, monitors and display units. The proposed solution is not only economic but also good for the environment.

OBJECTS OF THE PRESENT DISCLOSURE
[0005] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one
embodiment herein satisfies are as listed herein below.
[0006] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a device that
facilitates reconfiguration and control of analog display units.
[0007] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables in coupling one or more portable multimedia
storage to one or more input ports.
[0008] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables in coupling one or more output channels to an
analog display unit.
[0009] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables in one or more adapters to receive high definition
digital signals through the one or more input ports.
[0010] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables in one or more input keys to receive a set of input
signals from a user, the set of input signals pertaining to selection of a first set of
predefined functionalities of the device.
[0011] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables in the controller to communicatively couple to the
one or more input ports, the one or more output channels, the one or more
adapters and the one or more input keys.
[0012] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables in automatic detection of the one or more portable
multimedia storage connected to the one or more input ports.
[0013] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables the controller in activating the one or more adapters
based on the user input.
[0014] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a reconfigurable
display controller that enables in transmitting a set of analog audio-visual signals

generated by the one or more adapters to the analog display unit through the one or more output channels.
SUMMARY
[0015] The present disclosure relates to the field of display controller. More
particularly, it relates to a device for reconfiguration and control of analog display
unit.
[0016] An aspect of the present disclosure pertains to a device that may be
configured to facilitate reconfiguration and control of analog display units.
[0017] In an aspect, the reconfigurable display controller pertains to a device
that may include one or more input ports, one or more output channels, one or
more adapters, one or more input keys and a controller that may be
communicatively coupled to the one or more input ports, the one or more output
channels, the one or more adapters and the one or more input keys.
[0018] In an aspect, the reconfigurable display controller may be configured
to enable in coupling one or more portable multimedia storage to the one or more
input ports.
[0019] In an aspect, the proposed device may enable in coupling the one or
more output channels to an analog display unit.
[0020] In an aspect, the device may be configured to enable in one or more
adapters to receive high definition digital signals from the one or more portable
multimedia storage through the one or more input ports.

or more input keys to receive a set of input signals from a user, the set of input

(100) for reconfigurable display controller, in accordance with an embodiment of
the present disclosure.
[0039] In an embodiment, the device for reconfigurable display controller
(100) (interchangeably known as the device (100), herewith) may include one or

more input ports (102) that may be coupled to one or more portable multimedia storage. The one or more input ports (102) may be configured to receive one or more connectors associated with the one or more portable multimedia storage. In an embodiment, the one or more portable multimedia storage may include devices like but not limited to portable memory stick, smart phone, laptop, tablet, portable hard disk drive, Blu-ray discs, DVDs and compact discs, digital game controller and digital set-top box. By way of example, the one or more portable multimedia storage may contain digital multimedia files pertaining to documents, images, audios, videos, application programs, and the likes.
[0040] In an exemplary embodiment, the one or more input ports (102) may pertain to digital interfaces like but not limited to universal serial bus ports of types A, B, B mini, B micro, C, lightning, serial ports, parallel ports, digital video interface (DVI) ports and VGA ports. In another embodiment, the one or more input ports (102) may be connected to wireless transceivers that may enable in reception of wireless digital information through a wireless communication network. The wireless digital information may contain computer readable streaming audio-video and satellite broadcasts. In another embodiment, the portable multimedia storage may be network connected storage like a cloud server.
[0041] In an embodiment, the communication network may be associated with any or a combination of Wireless local area network (WLAN), Wide area network (WAN), Wireless fidelity (Wi-fi), Bluetooth, Worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), cellular communication network, GSM and the likes. The communication network may be a wireless network, a wired network or a combination thereof that may be implemented as one of the different types of networks, such as Intranet, Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Internet, and the likes. Further, the communication network may either be a dedicated network or a shared network. The shared network may represent an association of the different types of networks that may use variety of protocols, for example, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Transmission Control

Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and the likes.
[0042] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include one or more output channels (104) that may be configured to couple the device (100) to an analog display unit. By way of example, the analog display unit may include devices like but not limited to old cathode ray tube television set, old analog monitor, projector and the likes. The one or more output channels (104) may pertain to separate audio and video connectors coupled to wires. Audio output connectors may have stereo output channels. In an embodiment, the one or more output channels (104) may pertain to one or more audio and video transceivers that may be configured to transmit a set of audio-visual signals corresponding to the selected digital files stored in the one or more portable multimedia storage, from the device (100) to the analog display unit.
[0043] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include one or more adapters (106) that may be coupled to the one or more output channels (104). The one or more adapters (106) may be configured to receive high definition digital signals through the one or more input ports (102). The one or more adapters (106) may be enabled to generate the set of standard definition analog audio-visual signals that may be transmitted to the analog display unit through the one or more output channels (104). By way of example, the one or more adapters (106) may include HDMI cables, HDMI adapters with resolution enhancers and the likes. [0044] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include one or more input keys (108) that may be configured to receive user inputs and correspondingly generate a set of input signals. In an embodiment, the set of input signals may be of the form of electrical signals that may correspond to the one or more input keys (108) being operated by the user, the operations being any or a combination of pressing, touching, rotating, tapping, and actuating. In an embodiment, the one or more input keys (108) may pertain to tact switches, push switches, touchscreens, touch panels, joysticks, slide switches, rotary switches, buttons with touch sensitive housings and the likes. In another embodiment, the one or more input keys (108) may be communicatively coupled to the device (100) through a remote

or wireless network. The wireless network may pertain to transmission of information through any or a combination of infrared, Bluetooth, Wi-fi and GSM networks.
[0045] In an embodiment, the set of input signals may be enabled in selecting a first set of predefined functionalities of the device (100). By way of example, the first set of predefined functionalities may pertain to viewing list of displayable files available, selection of a digital multimedia files, modification of color, brightness and contrast of the video signal or images, altering viewing aspect ratio, increment/decrement of audio volume, presetting the sequence, duration and rate of repetition of the selected digital multimedia files, turning on/off of power supply and the likes. In an embodiment, the analog display unit may be utilized to display the first set of predefined functionalities to facilitate user decided selection of digital multimedia files from the one or more portable multimedia storage. [0046] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include a controller (110) that may be communicatively coupled to the one or more input ports (102), the one or more output channels (104), one or more adapters (106) and the one or more input keys (108). The controller (110) may be enabled to activate the one or more adapters (106) upon reception of the set of digital signals, the set of digital signals pertaining to the selected files of the one or more portable multimedia storage connected to the one or more ports (102). The controller may be further enabled to transmit the set of analog audio-video signals generated by the one or more adapters (106) to the one or more output channels (104) based on the user inputs received by the one or more input keys (108).
[0047] FIG. 2 illustrates an exemplary block diagram of the functional components (200) of the controller (110) associated with the proposed device (100) for reconfigurable display controller, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0048] In an illustrative embodiment, the controller (110) may include one or more processors (202). The one or more processors (202) may be implemented as one or more microprocessors, microcomputers, microcontrollers, digital signal processors, central processing units, logic circuitries, and/or any devices that

manipulate data based on operational instructions. Among other capabilities, the one or more processors (202) may be configured to fetch and execute computer-readable instructions stored in a memory (204), operatively coupled to the one or more processors (202). The memory (204) may be configured to store one or more computer-readable instructions or routines, which may be fetched and executed to generate and share data packets over a communication network or channel. The memory (204) may include any non-transitory storage device including, for example, volatile) memory such as RAM, or non-volatile memory such as EPROM, flash memory, and the like.
[0049] In an embodiment, the controller (110) may also include an interface (206) that can provide a communication pathway among the one or more input ports (102), the one or more output channels (104), the one or more adapters (106) and the one or more input keys (110) and the one or more processors (202). The interface (206) may also provide a communication pathway between the one or more processors (202) and other functional components of the controller (110) including but not limited to, memory (204) and database (222). [0050] In an embodiment, the processing engine (208) may include a detection unit (210) that may be configured to automatically detect the one or more portable multimedia storage coupled to the one or more input ports (102). In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may be enabled to periodically scan the one or more ports (102) for detection of the one or more portable multimedia storage. In another embodiment, the attachment of one or more portable multimedia storage to the one or more input ports (102) may generate an event based trigger signal. In an embodiment, the trigger signal may be a digital signal of Boolean nature.
[0051] In an embodiment, the processing engine (208) may include an extraction unit (212) that may be configured to receive a set of signals from the one or more input keys (108). In an exemplary embodiment, the set of input signals may pertain to selection of the first set of predefined functionalities of the device (100). In an embodiment, the first set of predefined functionalities may be enabled to perform a set of operations on the digital multimedia files of the one or

more portable multimedia storage connected to the one or more input ports (102).
The one or more processors (202) may be configured to extract the information
pertaining to selection of the first set of predefined functionalities upon receiving
the set of input signals in the form of any or a combination of key press, tap,
rotary motion and touch. The extracted information related to the first set of
predefined functionalities may be in a computer readable format.
[0052] In an embodiment, the processing engine (208) may include a
comparison unit (214) that may be configured to compare, the set of input signals generated by the one or more input keys (108) with a second set of predefined functionalities. The second set of predefined functionalities of the device (100) may be received from a database (222), operatively coupled to the one or more processors (202). In an embodiment, the second set of predefined functionalities may be in the form of computer readable binary stream. By way of example, the second set of predefined functionalities may pertain any or a combination of functions like but not limited to list of displayable files available, selection of a digital multimedia file, change in a set of features like color, brightness and contrast of the video signal or images, aspect ratio of the image, audio volume, defining settings like sequence, duration and rate of repetition of the selected digital multimedia files, turning on/off of power supply and the likes. [0053] In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may include an action generation unit (216) that may enable the one or more processors (202) to determine, based on the user input, the digital files selected from the one or more portable multimedia storage and to be converted to analog audio-video signal for display at the analog display unit.
[0054] In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may be enabled to generate the set of analog audio-visual signals from the selected digital multimedia files by using the one or more adapters (106). Generation of the set of analog audio-visual signals may be based on the comparison between the set of input signals and the second set of predefined functionalities received from the database, the comparison facilitating selection of the set of operations performed on the selected digital multimedia files. By way of example, the set of operations

may include conversion from digital to analog form, enhancement or reduction of resolution, brightness, contrast, color balance, change of aspect ratio, audio volume and the likes.
[0055] In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may be configured to transmit the set of analog audio-visual signals generated by the one or more adapters (106) to the analog display unit through the one or more output channels (104). In an exemplary embodiment, the set of audio signals may be transmitted through stereo channels connected to the analog display unit through stereo jacks and the set of video signals may be transmitted as Phase Alternate Line (PAL), Sequential Color and Memory (SECAM) and National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) mode video signals to the analog display unit. [0056] In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may include an alarm generation unit (218) that may be configured to generate a set of alert signals pertaining to a set of critical device status including but not limited to low battery, charging status, unreadable digital format, corrupted file information, preset time duration expired, total number of repetitions completed and the likes. The alarm generation unit (218) may be configured to generate any or a combination of audible, visible and non-audible alert signals in association with hardware components like a buzzer, a vibration generator, a flashing indicator, a scrolling text display and the likes.
[0057] In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may include other units (220) that may be configured to implement functionalities that supplement actions performed by the one or more processors (202) of the processing unit (108). In an exemplary embodiment, such actions may include monitoring of battery status, keeping a record of last five operations, automatic detection of the one or more portable multimedia storage being full to the capacity, keeping a backup of last operation with time stamps and the likes. The device (100) may further include one or more adapters (106) that may be configured to receive a set of high definition digital multimedia signals from the one or more portable multimedia storage and generate a set of analog audio-visual signals. The device may further include a controller (110) that may be configured to activate the one or more adapters (106) based on user inputs. The device may include one or more input keys (108) that may be configured to receive a set of input signals pertaining to selection of the first set of predefined functionalities of the device (100). The controller (110) may be enabled to perform a first set of operations on the selected digital multimedia files and transmit the analog audio-visual signals to the one or more output channels (104).

We Claim:

1. A device (100) for reconfiguration and control of an analog display unit, the device comprising:
one or more input ports (102), adapted to receive one or more connectors associated with portable multimedia storage, the portable multimedia storage containing digital multimedia files pertaining to any or a combination of images, documents, videos, audios and games;
one or more output channels (104), configured to communicatively couple the device (100) with the analog display unit, wherein the one or more output channels are enabled to transmit a set of analog audio-visual signals to the analog display unit;
one or more adapters (106), configured to receive high definition digital signals through the one or more input ports (102) and enabled to generate the set of analog audio-visual signals, wherein the high definition digital signals correspond to the digital multimedia files;
one or more input keys (108), adapted to receive a set of input signals from a user, wherein the set of input signals pertain to selection of a first set of predefined functionalities of the device (100);
a controller (110), communicatively coupled to the one or more input ports (102), the one or more output channels (104), the one or more adapters (106) and the one or more input keys (108), wherein, the controller (110) comprises one or more processors associated with a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the one or more processors and the one or more processors being configured to:

detect, the one or more portable multimedia storage connected to the one or more input ports (102);
determine, based on the user input, the digital multimedia files to be selected and converted to the set of analog audio-visual signals, the digital multimedia files being stored in the one or more portable multimedia storage;
receive, the set of input signals from the one or more input keys (108), wherein the set of input signals pertain to the selection of the first set of predefined functionalities of the device (100);
compare the set of input signals with a second set of predefined functionalities, wherein the second set of predefined functionalities are stored in a database, operatively coupled to the one or more processors;
generate the set of analog audio-visual signals by using the one or more adapters (106) from the selected digital multimedia files, wherein the generation of the set of analog audio-visual signals is based on the comparison between the set of input signals and the second set of predefined functionalities;
transmit, the set of analog audio-visual signals generated by the one or more adapters (106) to the analog display unit through the one or more output channels (104).
2. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the controller (110) is configured to periodically scan the one or more input ports (102), wherein scanning enables in automatic detection of the one or more portable multimedia storage connected to the one or more input ports (102).
3. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first set of predefined functionalities of the device (100) pertain to a first set of operations performed on the selected digital multimedia files, wherein the first set of

operations correspond to determination and execution of changes to any or a combination of features, duration, sequence and transition of the set of analog audio-visual signals displayed on the analog display unit. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more output channels are associated with one or more audio and video transceivers coupled to the one or more adapters (106) and the analog display unit, wherein the one or more audio and the video transceivers are configured to receive and transmit the set of analog audio-visual signals from the device (100) to the analog display unit, wherein the set of analog audio-visual signals correspond to the selected digital multimedia files stored in the one or more portable multimedia storage,.
The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the one or more input keys (108) are communicatively coupled to the controller (110) through wired or wireless network, wherein the one or more input keys (108) pertain to any or a combination of tact switches, touch panels, touch pads, touch buttons, sliding switches, joysticks and rotary switches.
