Abstract: The present invention relates to a recording device, a recording method, a playback device, a playback method, a program, and a recording medium, which enable the GOP structure of a Dependent view video stream obtained by encoding, for example, in accordance with the H.264 AVC/MVC profile standard to be defined and recorded in a recording medium such as a BD or the like. A Base view video stream is an H.264/AVC video stream. The GOP structure of the Base view video stream is the same structure as the GOP structure of the H.264/AVC video stream defined in the BD-ROM standard. The GOP structure to the Dependent view video stream is also defined as the same structure as the GOP structure of the Base view video stream. The present invention can be applied to a playback device compatible with the BD-ROM standard.

CLAIMS [Claim 1]
A recording device comprising:
encoding means configured to encode a video stream, with a group from an independently decodable picture to a picture immediately before the next independently decodable picture in the future in decoding sequence as a unit, by preventing a more future picture than the independently decodable picture in display sequence within this unit from being predicted from a picture within a unit more past than this unit, and to output a stream obtained by encoding as an extended stream to be used for display of a 3D image along with a basic stream;
creating means configured to create first table information correlating the display point-in-time of the independently decodable picture with a position on the extended stream; and
recording means configured to record the extended stream and the first table information in a recording medium. [Claim 2]
The recording device according to Claim 1, further comprising:
packetizing means configured to divide the extended stream for each packet of a predetermined size;
wherein the creating means create the fist table

information in which a position on the extended stream is represented in the packet unit;
and wherein the recording means record the packetized extended stream in the recording medium. [Claim 3]
The recording device according to Claim 1, wherein the encoding means further encode another video stream, with a group from an independently decodable picture to a picture immediately before the next independently decodable picture in the future in decoding sequence as a unit, by preventing a more future picture than the independently decodable picture in display sequence within this unit from being predicted from a picture within a unit more past than this unit, and to output a stream obtained by encoding as the basic stream. The recording device according to Claim 3, wherein the creating means further create second table information correlating the display point-in-time of the independently decodable picture of the basic stream with a position on the basic stream;
and wherein the recording means further record the basic stream and the second table information in the recording medium. [Claim 5]

The recording device according to Claim 1, wherein the creating means create the first table information made up of a first sub table correlating rough point-in-time with a position on the extended stream, and a second sub table correlating detailed point-in-time with a position on the extended stream. The recording device according to Claim 1, wherein the encoding means perform encoding based on the H.2 64 AVC/MVC profile standard;
and wherein the independently decodable picture of the extended stream is an Anchor picture. [Claim 7]
The recording device according to Claim 3, wherein the encoding means perform encoding based on the H.2 64 AVC/MVC profile standard;
and wherein the independently decodable picture of the basic stream is an I picture;
and wherein the independently decodable picture of the extended stream is an Anchor picture corresponding to the I picture. [Claim 8]
The recording device according to Claim 3, further comprising:
multiplexing means configured to multiplex the based

A recording method comprising the steps of:

creating first table information correlating the display point-in-time of the independently decodable picture with a position on the extended stream; and
recording the extended stream and the first table information in a recording medium. [Claim 10]
A program causing a computer to execute processing comprising the steps of:

readout means configured to read out data from a recording medium recording an extended stream generated by encoding a video stream, with a group from an independently decodable picture to a picture immediately before the next independently decodable picture in the future in decoding sequence as a unit, by preventing a more future picture than the independently decodable picture in display sequence within this unit from being predicted from a picture within a unit more past than this unit, which is used for display of a 3D image along with a basic stream, and first table information correlating the display point-in-time of the

independently decodable picture with a position on the extended stream; and
decoding means configured to decode the extended stream read out from the recording medium from a position corresponding to predetermined point-in-time based on the first table information. [Claim 12]
The playback device according to Claim 11, wherein random access as to the extended stream is performed based on the first table information. [Claim 13]
The playback device according to Claim 11, wherein the readout means further read out a basic stream generated by encoding another, with a group from an independently decodable picture to a picture immediately before the next independently decodable picture in the future in decoding sequence as a unit, by preventing a more future picture than the independently decodable picture in display sequence within this unit from being predicted from a picture within a unit more past than this unit, and second table information correlating the display point-in-time of the independently decodable picture with a position on the basic stream from the recording medium;
and wherein the decoding means decode the basic stream read out from the recording medium from a position

corresponding to predetermined point-in-time based on the second table information. [Claim 14]
The playback device according to Claim 11, wherein the extended stream is recorded in the recording medium by being divided for each packet of a predetermined size;
and wherein, with the first table information, a position on the extended stream is represented in the packet unit. [Claim 15]
The playback device according to Claim 11, with the first table information being made up of a first sub table correlating rough point-in-time with a position on the extended stream, and a second sub table correlating detailed point-in-time and a position on the extended stream, further comprising:
control means configured to search the rough point-in-time from the first sub table based on specified playback point-in-time, to search the detailed point-in-time from the second sub table based on the searched rough point-in-time, and to obtain the decoding position of the extended stream corresponding to the playback point-in-time using the searched detailed point-in-time. The playback device according to Claim 11, wherein the

extended stream is a stream obtained by performing encoding based on the H.2 64 AVC/MVC profile standard;
and wherein the independently decodable picture of the extended stream is an Anchor picture. [Claim 17]
The playback device according to Claim 13, wherein each of the extended stream and the basic stream is a stream obtained by performing encoding based on the H.264 AVC/MVC profile standard;
and wherein the independently decodable picture of the basic stream is an I picture;
and wherein the independently decodable picture of the extended stream is an Anchor picture corresponding to the I picture. [Claim 18]
The playback device according to Claim 13, wherein, with the recording medium, the based stream and the extended stream are recorded in a manner multiplexed to the same stream or different streams along with other data respectively. [Claim 19]
A playback method comprising the steps of:
