Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention is directed to integration of hook on reinforcement of split type
parcel tray in automobile.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
In Luggage compartment generally the board is openable by the below
mentioned options:-
a) Provision of an-auto locking means in Trim Qtr Lower as in fig. 1.
b) Provision of an auxiliary part such as plastic hook (1) with tray (2) of
vehicle to mount the luggage board (3) by means of a string (4) as
illustrated in fig. 2. However, it is associated with several drawbacks,
which can be mentioned hereinbelow:-
- Due to application of force on the tray/board, the hook may undergo
damage / breakage,
- Involves more number of parts, assembly of which consumes more
time, and eventually adds to cost.
- Heavy weight owing to presence of more number of parts,
- Assembly of many parts manually leads to compromise in quality.
Hence, it is more prone to quality defect.
c) In many hatchbacks, no provision for holding the opening of luggage
board is available as shown in fig. 3. Therefore, it is required to remove
the luggage board from the vehicle so as to take out spare tire.
-3-
Now, reference may be made to a Patent (JP 2012035767) which pe-lains to
luggage compartment structure of vehicle. Said structure comprises a board
and parcel shelf having two hinge parts and one hinge part respectively so as to
make the same foldable.
This gives rise to a plurality of compartments in the space between the parcel
shelf and board.
None of the above can meet the requirements of the present invention. Hence,
the instant invention regarding reinforcement of split type parcel tray in
automobile has been proposed.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose reinforcement of split type parcel tray
in automobile which overcomes disadvantages of prior art(s).
Another object of this invention is to propose reinforcement of split type parcel
tray in automobile which results in maximum space for luggage.
Further object of this invention is to propose reinforcement of split type parcel
tray in automobile which involves ease of accessibility and simple mechanism
to operate for customer.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided a reinforcement of split type
parcel tray in automobile comprising a longitudinal member integrated to a
protruded part with a hook for engagement of openable board string therewith.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings of exemplary embodiments of invention and wherein:
Fig. 1, 2 and 3 .
shows: Provisions in prior art for opening board in luggage
compartment.
Fig. 4 shows: Reinforcement of split type parcel tray in automobile
according to present invention.
Fig.5 shows: Hook mounted on protruded part of reinforcement of present
invention.
Fig. 6 shows: Side view of reinforcement in accordance with present
invention.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
This invention makes a disclosure regarding reinforcement of split type parcel
tray in automobile as illustrated in fig. 4. Said reinforcement comprising a
longitudinal member (1) having a substantially U-section with flange on both
sides.
The member is integrated to an extended part (2) at both ends for engagement
of the same with quarter trim lower of vehicle.
The aforesaid member is further integrated to a protruded part (3) with a hook
(4) at an intermediate point of the part. The hook is mounted on the protruded
part preferably at the center. The protruded part is also preferably placed at
the center of longitudinal member to maintain balance between t
-5-
The hook is directed towards the luggage area upon assembly of the
reinforcement with the parcel tray.
The hook (4) includes two members (L,H) joined at an angle and integral, to
each other, which is having substantially a L-section as in fig. b.The hook is
mounted at an angle to the protruded part.
The angle between the hook and protruded part and also the angle between two
members (L, H).of the hook are provided to facilitate insertion of string of board
into the hook and for proper retention of the string upon being engaged with
hook requiring minimum length of the same..
Hook height (H) is devised for ease of operation and minimum string length i.e.
hook height is designed such that it leads to ease of operation with
requirement of minimum string length to avail maximum luggage space.
Further, length of the hook (L) is designed such that, the hook can
accommodate the string maintaining required clearance from the height.
Now, reference may be made to fig. 6. In addition to the above, multitude of
strengthening ribs (5) are provided on the outer surface of the hook (Not
engaged with string of board). in order to strengthen the hook so that it i's
stiffened enough to sustain the load.
Depth of the ribs and also depth of the protruded part (D) is optimized to avail
maximum volume of luggage. Depth (D) of the section ensures minimum string
length on the board luggage, avoids interference of string while closing of back
-6-
door and also helps in increasing part strength and load bearing capacity of
striker (reinforcement) of tray.
There is provision of a curvature at the joint (Ci) of two members and also at
the free end (C2) of the hook to avoid injury to user while operating and to
facilitate slippage of the string respectively as in fig. 5. Again, a fillet. (F) is
introduced at the mounting of the hook to prevent development of stress.
Further, a slot (6) is provided in the flange placed opposite to the hook so as to
facilitate manufacturing with least modification in design of the existing tool
meant for the same.
The above discussed reinforcement of parcel tray constitutes a single structure
preferably made of plastic by injection molding without restricting its ambit to
the same. Thus, other materials and methods readily apparent to a person
skilled in the art are understood to be within purview of the invention.
Thus, the invention involves integration of child part to parcel tray
reinforcement thereby decreasing total number of parts, wherein said chiid part
is employed for holding luggage area cover while removing spare tire.
The aforesaid provision causes elimination of auxiliary part, thereby resulting
in cost and weight saving. Further, integrated design helps to reduce part
processing cost and time.
Advantageous Features:
- Integration of child part to parcel tray reinforcement results in reduction
of total number of parts.
- Involvement of less number of parts leads to reduction in weight, cost
and assembly time.

It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
