A reproducing apparatus which moves main data that has been subjected to reproduction-restrictive coding from a first recording medium where the main data is recorded to a second recording medium, comprising:at least one flash memory (48) for storing a key to be used for decoding a code that restricts reproduction of the main data; at least one plate like memory (1) for receiving the main data from the first recording medium;at least one drive apparatus (20) for judging whether the main data received by the plate like memory means can be decoded by using the key that is stored in the flash memory;at least one signal processing apparatus for outputting the main data received by the said plate like memory to the second recording medium; andat least one counter for causing the said signal processing apparatus to output the main data received by the said plate like memory to the second recording medium if the said drive apparatus judges that the main data can be decoded, and for prohibiting the said signal processing apparatus from outputting the main data received by the said plate like memory to the second recording medium if said drive apparatus judges that the main data cannot be decoded.
