STORAGE TYPE WATER FILTER-CUM-PURIFIER ASSEMBLY BASED ON REVERSE OSMOSIS
This invention relates to storage type water filter-cum-purifier assembly based on reverse osmosis.
Reverse osmosis water purifiers with storage tank Reverse osmosis water purifiers with storage tank are currently available with in general following stages:
1. Sediment filtration
2. Activated carbon filtration
3. Reverse osmosis
4. Activated carbon filtration at the post reverse osmosis stage
Water after passing through all the above stages, it gets collected in storage tank for consumption purpose As per the need of customer's requirement the water will be withdrawn form this tank. In general, the stored water can be present in the tank from 24 - 48 hrs. In very few cases it will be kept for more than 48 hrs by the consumer. During this storage period, the already purified water may get contaminated due to various factors. It could be due to improper fitment of the tank lid, surface contamination of the storage tank due to improper cleaning, handling, airborne contamination. This has necessitated development of a fool proof storage tank for avoiding post contamination.
Storage type water purifier which can retain stored water fresh and without contamination has been a long felt need. The object of this invention is to develop a storage type water purifier which is able to store filtered and purified water safe for use by preventing or minimizing post purification filtration contamination in the storage tank.
The assembly devised by us has the following modules ftinctioning sequentially. The filter cum purifier assembly devised by us has the following modules:
1. Pre-filtration module
2. Antiscalant
3. Sediment fiher module
4. Pre carbon filtration module
5. Reverse osmosis filtration module
6. Special Post carbon filtration module with Nano Silver leaching
7. Storage tank with antimicrobial agent
The assembly devised by the applicant optionally has a magnetic cartridge which magnetizes the water entering the sedimentation filtration module. Another optional feature is the provision of bio-ceramic energy cartridge in the storage tank. This cartridge is preferably positioned near the faucet. Biocera granules utilizes the permeate water and converts water modules into high energy micro modules which is absorbed easily by the human body.
This invention relates to a storage type water filter cum purifier assembly based on reverse osmosis which comprises a pre-filtration module, an anti sealant module, a sediment filter module, pre-carbon filtration module, a reverse osmosis filter module, a port carbon filter module provided with Nano silver particle leaching facility and a storage tank being sequentially and serially interconnected, an inlet means and an outlet means for water provided at the pre-filtration module and storage tank respectively.
The different modules will now be described in detail.
Stage 1 - Pre filtration module
The pre filtration module consists of a porous filter element housed in a suitable casing provided with a water inlet port and outlet port. The inlet port is connected to a source of water supply through a connector and the outlet port is connected to the sediment filter inlet port (stage 2) through suitable connectors and tubing. This prefilter module removes the suspended physical impurifies such as dust, rust etc.... A back flush provision is also made for easy cleaning of pre filtration module by the user, just by turning the back flush knob of the input water valve of a fluid diverter valve assembly.
Stage 2 - Anti sealant filtration module.
The anti sealant filtration module consists sodium hexa meta phosphate granules to prevent calcium and magnesium related scaling on reverse osmosis membrane by chalation principle. The complex of calcium and magnesium flows along with the water over the membrane filtration module and flows out along with reject water. This process enhances the life of membrane filtration module. This filtration module is housed in a suitable casing provided with a water inlet and ouflet port.
Triclosan is an organic compound, C12H7CI3O2 and is derivafive of di phenyl ether is a very popular antibacterial agent. It is insoluble in water. It disables the activity of an enzyme called ENR (Enoyl - acyl carrier protein reduce taste). This enzyme is vital in building cell membranes of many bacteria and fungi. Triclosan has a powerfial antibiotic action even in smaller concentrations as its molecule blocks permanently one molecule of ENR.
Triclosan is a broad spectrum antibacterial /antimicrobial agent. As a result of its bacteriostatic activity against a wide range of both gram negative and gram positive bacteria it has found increasing and recent popular use in personal care products.
The assembly according to this invention is provided with the following :
1. Low pressure switch
2. Control solenoid valve
3. Diaphragm based booster pump
4. Reject water control valve
5. Auto flush system
6. Water level monitoring system
7. Control PCB
1. Low pressure switch.
The low pressure switch is used to monitor the inflow of water supply and thus prevent dry running of diaphragm based booster pump. Incase of no water, the low pressure switch will not allow the pump to start functioning. The low pressure switch is placed between the pre filtration module and the sediment filtration module.
2. Control solenoid valve.
The control solenoid valve is used to switch ON & OFF the water flow based on the requirement. The control solenoid valve is placed between the additional filtration module and the diaphragm based booster pump.
3. Diaphragm based booster pump.
The diaphragm based booster pump is used to boost the input water pressure to the required level of the reverse osmosis membrane filtration module. The diaphragm based booster pump is placed between control solenoid valve and the pre carbon filtration module.
4. Reject water control valve.
The reject water control valve is used for adjusting the reject water and permeate flow ratio. The reject water control valve is placed between the membrane reject outlet port and the reject water tubing.
5. Auto flush system.
The auto flush system is used for flushing out the higher concentrated water with minerals and chemicals, which is- present on the outer surface of the reverse osmosis membrane filtration module. The process of auto flushing will enhance the life of membrane filtration module by not allowing the higher concentrated minerals and chemicals to settle on to the reverse osmosis membrane filtration module surface. The auto flush system is placed in the reject water tubing as a parallel connection to the reject water control valve connections. The auto flush system activates on a specific period as programmed in the control PCB.
6. Control PCB.
Keeping the user safety in mind, the total control circuit and the components are designed based on 24 V DC. The input voltage of 230 V AC is converted in to 24 VDC by the control PCB circuit and supplied to the respective electrical/ electronics components for its proper functioning. The following are the areas, which the control PCB provides DC power supply.
The lid of the storage tank is constructed such that it prevents entry of insects and other contaminants. The lid has two outwardly extending projections, which overlap the rim of the upper edge of the tank.
The low pressure switch is positioned between the anti sealant filter (membrane life enhancer filter) and magnetic cartridge. The function of low pressure switch is to safe guard the diaphragm based booster pump liom dry running. The micro switch equipped in this switch is electrically connected in series with the power circuit of the system. The input water pressure to the system pushes the internal diaphragm of the low pressure switch and intern pushes the spring loaded micro switch sensing port. This allows the circuit to close and the system starts operates. If the input water pressure is below the set pressure of the micro switch, it prevents the system from operating and safe guard the diaphragm pump.
The control solenoid valve is positioned between magnetic cartridge and diaphragm based booster pump. The function of control solenoid valve is to switch ON / OFF the water flow based on the system requirement. It allows the water flow when ever the diaphragm based booster pump is ON and closes the water flow on stoppage of diaphragm based booster pump. Thus it prevents water wastage through the system when in non productive mode.
Diaphragm based booster pump is positioned between control solenoid valve and sediment filter. The function of the diaphragm based booster pump is to boost the input water pressure to the required osmotic pressure and water flow for permeate water (purified water) to get produced when higher concentrated water is pumped in to the reverse osmosis membrane housing. Higher the input concentrate, higher the pressure and flow requirements. Diaphragm based booster
pump also acts as a non-return pressure device between the pump suction port and output port.
