Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION:
[001] The present subject matter described herein, relates to rear spoiler 5 provided at rear/back gate/door in a vehicle and, in particular, to a rear spoiler having rib structure to create relation between the rear/back gate/door spoiler and back gate/door glass of the vehicle.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART:
[002] Generally, spoiler is given on rear gate/door in hatch back vehicles. Main 10 purpose of the rear spoiler is to give sharp side profile along with good aesthetic looks which cannot be made through the outer panel due to draw issues of rear door. Cost of the spoiler is prime concern these days since this is an additional part having no functional significance in hatchback cars for most of the vehicles.
[003] In order to reduce the cost, cost effective manufacturing method and 15 concepts of spoilers are evolving. Single piece injection molded spoiler concept is one of them. Shape and curvature for different spoilers is different and is governed by vehicle styling. Generally, curvature of single piece injection molded spoiler is in line to that of the roof curvature. Further, the geometry of the spoiler is such that it is broad in middle and narrow or converging at the extreme ends. 20
[004] The converging shape of the spoiler is achieved by the dog houses. The dog houses are undercut area in spoiler used for provision of spoiler mountings on the vehicle. The dog houses are made through sliders which move in perpendicular direction to that of main tooling direction of spoiler and vehicle inward direction to make the converging shape of the spoiler. 25
[005] If the shape of the spoiler is diverging or flat, the same can be achieved by the dog houses that are made through sliders. Fig. 1 shows assembly of the rear spoiler with the glass of the rear gate of the vehicle. In any spoiler if there is overhang which generally present in almost each spoiler, there is high chances of the spoiler undergoing rattling, sagging, and uneven gap of spoiler. The rear 30
4
spoiler 100 mounted on the rear gate 202 of the vehicle. Further, the rear spoiler 100 is provided across the width 104 of the vehicle.
[006] Fig. 2(a) shows the sagging issue in the relation of the rear spoiler 100 with the rear gate glass 102 of the back door 202 of the vehicle. Further, there is gap 204 between the rear spoiler 100 and the rear door glass 102. The rear spoilers 5 are mounted on the rear end of the vehicle. During the movement of the vehicle, there huge pressure and weight on the rear side of the vehicle which bulge downward or sags the spoiler 100 of the vehicle. Fig. 2(b) shows rattling issue in relation of the spoiler with the rear gate of the vehicle. During the movement of the vehicle, the spoiler generates vibration or up and down movement due to 10 which the spoiler hits the glass or rear gate of the vehicle continuously and create the rattling sound. Fig. 2(c) shows the uneven gap between dog house surface of spoiler and back door glass. The uneven gap between dog house surface and surface of glass across the width is because of the shape and profile of the vehicle and the rear spoiler. Spoilers can be converging, diverging, and flat in shape and 15 dog house surface cannot be made as per profile always which creates un-even gap between the dog house surface of spoiler and the rear gate glass..
[007] The spoilers are single piece injection molding spoiler which has restricted holding area to limited matching area and dog houses. In other plastic molding process and even in diverging or flat single piece injection molded spoilers, to 20 improve the holding area relation with glass is required that can be made by provision of flat surface but in single piece injection molding spoiler with converging profile such arrangement is not possible. In case of converging type single piece injection molding spoiler, the slider movement direction has no relation with glass, therefore it is not possible. 25
[008] The relationship with glass, if made through a new molded part, would increase the cost of the spoiler, change the whole concept from single piece to multi piece and affected the quality of spoiler due to multiple parts assembly.
[009] Therefore, there is need to prevent rattling and sagging of the spoiler by giving maximum holding area to the spoiler. In order to improve the holding area 30
5
of the spoiler, it is better to build good relationship with glass of the rear gate. So an effective solution is required to provide relation with the glass of the rear gate. Therefore, a simple, inexpensive, easy to manufacture rear spoiler is required which can effectively prevent sagging and rattling of the rear spoiler of the vehicle. 5
