Abstract: Title: Road Safety Divider A road safety divider configured to be installed on roads to separate the lanes of traffic, wherein said divider is flexible and capable of retaining its original form if run over by a vehicle is disclosed. Said divider features a circular base portion adapted to be fixed firmly on the road surface using screws, wherein said base features a circular depression at its top portion adapted to receive a vertical member on which multiple retro- reflective tapes are affixed. FIG.1
DESC:[0015] The preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be explained with reference to the accompanying drawings. It should be understood however that the disclosed embodiments are merely exemplary of the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. The following description and drawings are not to be construed as limiting the invention and numerous specific details are described to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention, as the basis for the claims and as a basis for teaching one skilled in the art how to make and/or use the invention. However, in certain instances, well-known or conventional details are not described in order not to unnecessarily obscure the present invention in detail.
[0016] The preferred embodiment of the present invention discloses a flexible road safety divider configured to be installed on roads to separate the lanes of traffic, wherein said divider is flexible and capable of retaining its original form if run over by a vehicle. It is designed to be installed at sharp bends, narrow stretches, and tunnels wherein constructing physical road barriers is not a feasible solution. It is also suited for security bollards at high security properties, cycle track separation, and private and pedestrian area delineation. The flexible road safety divider is non-brittle and non-rusting.
[0017] Referring to FIG.1, the flexible road safety divider of the present invention comprises of a circular base portion adapted to be fixed firmly on the road surface using screws or similar means, wherein said base features a circular depression at its top portion, adapted to receive a vertical member of 0.8m length. Said member is slightly narrowing profile, having a difference of 13mm between the stem diameters at the bottom and the top. In the preferred embodiment, the base portion is of 220mm in diameter. The edges of said depression is adapted to firmly attach to the vertical member, when said member is inserted into the depression, as shown in the figure. The top surface of the vertical member is closed. In another embodiment, the top surface is flat.
[0018] At about 1/3 to 2/3 height from the base, multiple retro-reflective tapes are affixed on the surface of the vertical member of the flexible road safety divider to facilitate visibility to the driver during the night.
[0019] If a vehicle happens to run over the divider of the present invention, owing to its flexibility, it just bends over and regains its shape once the deforming effect caused by the vehicle’s impact ceases. As the material of the divider is made of rubber, chances of sparking owing to the impact is non-existent.
[0020] Although the present invention has been described in connection with the preferred embodiments thereof with reference to the accompanying drawings, it is to be noted that various changes and modifications are possible and are apparent to those skilled in the art. Such changes and modifications are to be understood as included within the scope of the present invention unless they depart there from.
,CLAIMS:1. A road safety divider configured to be installed on roads to separate the lanes of traffic, wherein said divider is flexible and capable of retaining its original form if subjected to a deforming force, said divider characterized by:
• a circular base portion adapted to be fixed firmly on the road surface using screws, wherein said base features a circular depression at its top portion; and
• a vertical member adapted to be inserted into said depression on the base portion, wherein the edges of the depression is adapted to firmly attach to the vertical member, when said member is inserted into the depression.
2. The road safety divider as claimed in claim 1, wherein the vertical member is frustum shaped.
3. The road safety divider as claimed in claim 1, wherein the vertical member is 0.8m long.
4. The road safety divider as claimed in claim 1, wherein the top surface of the vertical member is flat and closed.
5. The road safety divider as claimed in claim 1 is non-brittle and non-rusting.
