Robotic Pen

Abstract: The present invention is a Robotic Pen, which is an automatic tool specially designed for handicapped students who are unable to write due to their medical condition .This pen is inbuilt with a microphone, it uses the speech recognition technology and performs the specified task as requested by the user. This pen can write anything for the user, it can even draw geometrical shapes with specially designed algorithms. It can also be used by architects to draw the various shapes and designs.Robotic pen works on the speech recognition technology and as it converts the speech into the text which in our case would be our pen writing on a piece of paper or a drawing something on the drawing sheet. When we speak, we create vibrations in the air. The Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) translates the analog waves of our voice into digital data by sampling the sound. The higher the sampling and precision rates, the higher the quality.

Field of Invention
The Present invention belongs to the field of pattern recognition or speech
recognition technology and artificial intelligence technology, in particular to human
machine interface equipment.
Background of invention
The Present invention belongs to the field of pattern recognition or speech
recognition technology and artificial intelligence technology, in particular to human
machine interface equipment. The conventional writing tools are not user friendly for
differently abled student who can hardly to move their hands. The present invention,
Robotic Pen, as the name specifies, is an automatic tool specially designed for
differently abled students who are unable to write due to their medical condition.
CN 201110108778.0 provides an intelligent electronic handwriting pen which
comprises a hardware system and a software system; the hardware comprises a main
control module, a triaxial acceleration sensor, an angular acceleration sensor, an A/D
(Analog to Digital) converter and a wireless transmission module, and the connection of
the hardware system is realized by using a double-bus structure, wherein a control bus
is used for transmitting the control signals of the main control module and other
modules, and a data bus is in charge of transmitting data between modules; the
wireless transmission module is in wireless connection with an external intelligent
device; the software system comprises an internal software module arranged on the
main control module and an external software module arranged on the external
intelligent device; the internal software module and the external software module are
mutually connected through a wireless communication protocol so as to realize
receiving and identify the handwriting operation performed through the hardware system
by the user.
US 7351290 B2 discloseda robotic pen includes a computer numerically
controlled machine having a multi-axis stage for mounting a workpiece, and a

cooperating elevator which translates relative thereto. A pen tip is rotatably mounted to
the elevator. And, a dispenser is joined in flow communication with the pen tip for
ejecting a stream of material atop the workpiece as the workpiece moves relative
thereto for maintaining a substantially constant gap between said pen tip and the
workpiece during relative movement there between.

Summary of Invention
Robotic Pen, as the name specifies, is an automatic tool specially designed for
handicapped students who are unable to write due to their medical condition .This pen
is inbuilt with a microphone, it uses the speech recognition technology and performs the
specified task as requested by the user. This pen can write anything for the user, it can
even draw geometrical shapes with specially designed algorithms. It can also be used
by architects to draw the various shapes and designs.
Robotic pen works on the speech recognition technology and as it converts the speech
into the text which in our case would be our pen writing on a piece of paper or a drawing
something on the drawing sheet. When we speak, we create vibrations in the air.
The Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) translates the analog waves of our voice into
digital data by sampling the sound. The higher the sampling and precision rates, the
higher the quality.

Detailed Description
Robotic pen works on the speech recognition technology and as it converts the
speech into the text which in our case would be our pen writing on a piece of paper or a
drawing something on the drawing sheet. When we speak, we create vibrations in the
air. The Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) translates the analog waves of our voice into
digital data by sampling the sound. The higher the sampling and precision rates, the
higher the quality.
We also use noise filter in the pen to remove the unwanted noise. The system
filters the digitized sound to remove unwanted noise, and sometimes to separate it into
different bands of frequency. The Robotic Pen consists of a round base which sticks to
the surface. The base is further attached to metal stick (1st arm) and this metal stick is
further attached to the 2nd metal arm. The 2nd metal arm has a pen holder to which the
actual ball point pen is attached. There are 2 Electric Motors used in this pen with both
the metal arms. The motors start to move and rotate the pen when we speak and give a
command to the pen. There is a battery attached in the pen which supplies current to
the electric motors which further rotate the metal arms and making it possible to write.
5
There is a special power button and light indicator which turns on when we press
the power button. An Integrated Circuit (IC Chip) is used for storing the line drawing,
circle drawing and various other drawing algorithms and certain commands. The chip
works as a memory storage for the pen. For instance, a user wants to draw a line of 6
cm, then the user will give a command and say,“Draw a straight line of 6 cm” and the
pen will draw a line of 6 cm using the line drawing algorithm which we store in the
integrated chip. Similarly, it can draw a circle of any radius using the circle drawing
algorithms. So, in a nutshell this pen can draw anything for the user by speaking the
specified command.
