Rope Dyeing With Natural Dyes

Abstract: The invention concern with the dyeing of denims (thick strong cloth variety) by rope with the natural dyes and also keeping an eye on the fringe benefits of this method over other dyeing techniques. A process for rope dyeing cotton yams with natural dyes comprises of the steps of forming the yams into a rope; repeatedly immersing the rope in a bath containing a stabilized natural dye in water soluble form; squeezing the rope to remove excess liquid and exposing the damp rope to air; and then further dipping it several times for better dye adherence. The invention also concern with the preparation of the natural dye and a process of rope dyeing.

Dyeing of textile has been practice for thousands of years and the rope dyeing method is one of
the practice methods for dyeing of denims with natural dyes.
Rope dyeing method is known for a superior dyeing technology where warping and dyeing are
done in the form of rope and dyeing sizing is done separately.
In rope dyeing, ball warps are continuously fed into the rope or chain-dyeing range for
application of the natural dyeing. Typically, 12-36 individual ropes of yarn are fed side-by-side
simultaneously into the range. The ropes are kept separate from each other throughout the
various parts of the dye range. The ropes are first fed into one or more scouring baths, for
pretreatment. The ropes of yam are then fed into the dye baths and skied after each dip. 2-3
times washing and drying was done.
This method is known for its higher production quality. The present invention includes the use of
many common natural dyes other than indigo dye. A process can be conducted at a room
temperature by dipping a yarn in a dye bath for a 20sec and exposure in air for 45sec up to 5-6
dips to achieve the desired shade.
This method for dyeing a yam with natural dyes comprising:

I/We claim:
1. The process of "rope dyeing with natural dyes include i) pretreatment of yarn using
Vegeplus and Vegeset ii) repeatedly immersing a rope of the yarn in a dye bath
containing natural dye for 20sec (5-6dips) iii) preparation of natural dyes solution using
Vegedesperse iv) cold washing and drying of a yarn.
2. The process as claimed in claim 1 wherein Vegeplus and Vegeset are selected for the
pretreatment of yarns the increases the percentage of uptake of dyes.
3. The process of claim 2, wherein Vegedisperse use for better dispersion of natural dyes.
4. The process of claim 3, wherein Hydro are selected as a stabilizing agent.
5. The process of claim 4, said the temperature of the dye bath should be room temperature
i.e. 27°-30°C and time of dipping in each bath should be 20 seconds and exposure time
45 seconds.
6. The process of claim 5, wherein the concentration of Vegeplus isJ20gpl,_Yegeset and-
Vegedisperse is lOgpl.
7. The process of claim 1, wherein dyeing using the natural dye comprises dyeing using a
natural dye extract obtained from one or more of the roots, stem, bark, leaves, fruits, fruit
rind or flowers of at least one of Acacia catechu, Punka granatum, Quercus infiractoria,
Rheum emodi, Rubia cardifplia, Terminalia chebula or Tegetus.
