Abstract: A rotor (108) for rotating packed bed units (RPBs) (102) is described. The rotor (108) comprises a first plate (112) and a second plate (112). The rotor (108) further comprises a plurality of sets (110) of rings concentrically interposed between the first plate (112) and the second plate (112). Each set of rings comprises a plurality of rings are arranged cylindrically. Further, each ring comprises a plurality of packing elements. The rotor (108) further comprises at least one metallic ring interposed between the plurality of sets (110) of rings.
DESC:ROTATING PACKED BED ASSEMBLY ,CLAIMS:1. A rotor (108) for rotating packed bed units (RPBs) (102), the rotor (108) comprising:
a first plate (112);
a second plate (112);
a plurality of sets (110) of rings concentrically interposed between the first plate (112) and the second plate (112), wherein each set of rings comprises a plurality of rings arranged cylindrically, wherein each ring comprises a plurality of packing elements; and
at least one metallic ring interposed between the plurality of sets (110) of rings.
2. The rotor (108) as claimed in claim 1, wherein one of the first plate (112) and the second plate (112) is coupled to a shaft (106) to rotate the rotor (108), wherein an outer surface of the shaft (106) comprises a plurality of sequential steps (300) tapered along the length of the outer surface.
3. The rotor (108) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the rotor (108) further comprises a fastener (208) to fasten the first plate (112), the second plate (112), the plurality of sets (110) of rings, and the at least one metallic ring.
4. A rotating packed bed (RPB) unit (102) comprising:
a rotor vessel (116) comprising:
a rotor (108), wherein the rotor (108) comprises:
a first plate (112);
a second plate (112); and
a plurality of sets (110) of rings concentrically interposed between the first plate (112) and the second plate (112), wherein each set (110) of rings comprises a plurality of rings arranged cylindrically, wherein each ring comprises a plurality of packing elements;
a liquid inlet and gas outlet pipe assembly (130) coupled to the rotor (108), the liquid inlet and gas outlet pipe assembly (130) comprising:
a gas outlet pipe (400) to affect expulsion of gas from the rotor (108); and
a liquid inlet pipe (402) housing the gas outlet pipe (400) to form a region to affect inflow of liquid into the rotor (108); and
a shaft (106) coupled to one of the first plate (112) and the second plate (112) of the rotor (108) to rotate the rotor (108), wherein an outer surface of the shaft (106) comprises a plurality of sequential steps (300) tapered along the length of the outer surface.
5. The RPB unit (102) as claimed in claim 4, wherein the RPB unit (102) further comprises a bearing housing (122) mounted onto the shaft (106) to counter at least one of a radial load and axial load affected by the rotor (108), the bearing housing (122) comprising:
one or more ball bearings (124) to hold the rotor (108) in a predetermined position; and
one or more seals (128) coupled to the rotor vessel (116) and the shaft (106) to check leakage of air and gas from the rotor vessel (116).
6. The RPB unit (102) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the bearing housing (122) further comprises a lubricant and cooling water circulation mechanism (126).
7. The RPB unit (102) as claimed in claim 4, wherein the liquid inlet pipe (402) is provided with one or more liquid distributor pipes (404), wherein each of the liquid distributor pipes (404) comprises one or more nozzles (406) to distribute liquid.
8. The RPB unit (102) as claimed in claim 4, wherein the rotor (108) further comprises at least one metallic ring interposed between the plurality of sets (110) of rings.
9. The RPB unit (102) as claimed in claim 4, wherein the rotor vessel (116) further comprises a gas inlet nozzle (502) coupled to a gas impingement plate (504) to affect inflow of gas into the rotor vessel (116).
10. The RPB unit (102) as claimed in claim 4, wherein a motor (104) is coupled to the shaft (106) to rotate the shaft (106).
