DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to a differential casing system used in differential carrier of commercial vehicles. The differential case is the structural part which performs the function of holding and locating the crown wheel and also acts as housing for differential unit and a method of manufacturing thereof.
BACKGROUND
[002] In the existing or conventional crown wheel type differential case system required separate hardware’s required for mounting of differential case – such as left hand and right hand. Further differential case of the left-hand crown leads to increase in weight and assembly time also involves cost. Also due to complexity nature of the system and separate hardware’s requirement for mounting of differential case left hand and right hand and differential case left hand crown which leads to increase in assembly time. To accommodate the higher size differential gears differential case size increases for this type of differential case which leads to increase in weight resultant greater cost and high maintainability of the system.
[003] Further if failure occurs in field in differential case assembly, whole set needs to be replaced instead of sing differential case since machining is done as set to achieve required parameter.
[004] Hence the is an unmet need of integrated differential case to overcome above challenges.
BRIEF SUMMARY
[005] The present invention relates to a differential casing system used in differential carrier of commercial vehicles. The differential case is the structural part which performs the function of holding and locating the crown wheel and also acts as housing for differential unit.
[006] In one embodiment, the differential case is divided into two parts: Left hand differential case performs the function of holding the crown wheel at its location also half portion of differential case left hand guides the differential gears.
[007] In current system, the crown wheel is mounted onto the differential case left hand only by bolted joints and ID is guided on spigot of the differential case. The left hand is currently used differential casting and machining part.
[008] The sandwich mounted crown wheel design all 3 parts, differential case left hand and right-hand crown wheel are mounted on single hardware. Thus, eliminating requirement of separate hardware. This reduces cost weight and assembly time. The in sandwich mounted crown wheel design complete differential assembly is guided into the differential case – right hand part only and since all 3 parts are mounted on same hardware comparatively larger size differential gears can be accommodated than conventional design.
[009] Further the differential case left hand and differential case right hand are made separately and no set machining operation is required since differential gears are enclosed in single diff case only. Hence both of the parts are separately serviceable.

It would become abundantly clear to a person in the art, after reading this specification that the present subject matter also provides a differential casing system to hold and locate the crown wheel comprising differential case left hand and right-hand crown wheel are mounted on single hardware and method of manufacturing thereof. More specifically, the present subject matter discloses a a differential casing system to hold and locate the crown wheel without departing from the spirit of the present subject matter. While the subject matter may be susceptible to various modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiments have been shown by way of example in the drawings and have been described herein. Alternate embodiments or modifications may be practiced without departing from the spirit of the present subject matter. The drawings shown are schematic drawings and may not be to the scale. While the drawings show some features of the subject matter, some features may be omitted. Alternatively, in some other cases some features may be emphasized while others are not. Further, the methods disclosed herein may be performed in manner and/or order in which the methods are explained. Alternatively, the methods may be performed in manner or order different than what is explained without departing from the spirit of the present subject matter. It should be understood that the subject matter is not intended to be limited to the particular forms disclosed. Rather, the subject matter is to cover all modifications, equivalents, and alternatives falling within the spirit and scope of the subject matter.
