Abstract: The present invention relates to a labeling process for containers enabling non porous substrate based packaging for securing barcode and UID pin based variable data printing. In the present embodiment, eseal coating is applied on the polyester substrate having a color contrasting with the color of the near side of permanent base visible to the user with sufficient thickness so as to obscure the color of the permanent base and reveals the color of the near side of the permanent base after scratching and having a far side containing an adhesive material selected from the group of paraffin or plastic & is applied through rolling, spraying or stamping process for protection. It is scratched with scratching material such as fingernail or coin in order to expose the plastic coating between the adhesive and scratch off surface followed by adhering to the labeling article.
Field of the invention: -
Plastic packaging and composite material based packaging for application of scratch off substance on flexible, non-porous substrate more particularly to a scratch off label of polyester fibres for securing barcode and UID pin based variable data printing.
Back ground of Invention with regard to the drawback associated with the known art:-
Scratch off technology provides excellent security against document duplication. By using scratch off technology each document can only be validated once. Package labeling can be described as any written, electronic, or graphic communications on the packaging or on a separate but associated label. Labels have been used by manufacturers of beverages and other consumables for different purposes such as product identification, brand identity, name tags, advertising, warnings, and other communication. These labels are intended to convey information, brand, image, add appeal and arouse consumer interest. The other purposes of package labeling are physical protection, barrier protection, information transmission and marketing. The major purpose of package labeling is in reducing security risks. Packages may include authentication seals and use security printing to help indicate that the package and contents are not counterfeit.
Barcode labels are common symbol to allow automated information management in logistics and retailing. The material on scratch off cards and lottery tickets is having a substrate having an area overprinted with an elastomer such as opaque latex ink used to hide the information already printed on the substrate & to be scratched off to reveal the printed information. A non-porous surface like enamel paper is used which must be coated , with a release coating of varnish. So the substrate becomes the under layer which is covered with scratch off ink. The ink dries into an opaque film i.e. scratch offable protective coating that can be scratched off to reveal printed indicia indicating whether or not a lottery prize has been won.
One of the prior art means for indicating scratch card technique is the erasable scratch-off lottery ticket as described in US Patent No. 554488. The scratch off card includes first and second sections. The first section is provided with a first set of game data covered by a substantially opaque scratch-off material. The second section is provided with a second set of game data covered by a substantially transparent material which further provides a substantially transparent coating for marking the second section by rubbing with an object. The markings so made are erasable by pencil eraser or the like material.
In another prior art means for a scratch-off lottery game with dual transparent layers disclosed in US Patent No. 6076860.This embodiment discloses a substrate having at least one area having printed indicia thereon, the printed indicia being covered by at least one clear, transparent layer which can be removed by scratching, and at least one layer on said clear transparent layer which is colored, transparent and made of a non-scratch- off material, the colored transparent layer being affixed to the clear transparent layer in a manner in which removing the clear transparent layer by scratching results in removal of the colored transparent layer.
In another one prior art means fragrance enhanced scratch-off layer for game cards is disclosed in US Patent No. 5000486.This invention discloses a scratch-off game piece which contains a fragrance which is released during the game play action. The game piece is constructed by application of layers of fragrance containing material and scratch-off material over a support layer of printed sheet material such that when the scratch-off material is removed by the player, the fragrance containing capsules are ruptured and fragrance is released.
Each of the above mentioned patents provides a system by which the removal of the scratch-off layer in certain play areas or boxes provides a multi-transparent layer and erasable scratch off layer. However each of the prior art systems limits on the overall appearance of the scratch off area and is relatively expensive to implement. The existing packaging and labeling systems does not have capability to carry scratch off substance more particularly a non -porous substance.
Disadvantages of the present embodiment are as follows
1) Inconvenient, insecure for the quality of the print.
2) Counterfeiting of scratch off label is more.
3) Interfering of scratch off labels with the container labels.
4) Information damage during scratching.
5) Increase in waste and hygiene of the container.
6) Effect on business of the company.
7) Temporary attachment of writing implements on container surfaces.
8) The problem which the prior art has not addressed is the need for a method for non porous based packaging and labeling by marking containers with simplified information or identification that containers which heretofore were not commonly marked with information. The present embodiment is a scratch off label for permitting printing of barcode and UID pin based variable data printing scratch off label for non porous flexible substrate. In the present invention, the containers will now be marked with a 16 digit random and eternal product identification pin providing convenience, safety and reduction of waste.
9) The flexible non-porous substrate based packaging and labels with scratch off substance have the following advantages.
10) Provides a new range of packaging and labels that can use concealed messages and images for authentication and other purposes.
11) A powerful tool for brand owners to manage scratch off based promotions.
12) As process used for scratch off label to label containers & lottery tickets is different, the counterfeiting of the scratch-off label would be greatly minimized.
13) Information recorded on label can be easily read due to the use of contrasting colors and shades between the scratch-off coating and the base color.
14) Suitable small size label providing convenience.
15) Gives freedom for manufacturers and consumers to label articles due to the adhesive of the scratch-off label.
16) Provides excellent security against document duplication and quality of the print through scratch off.
17) Quick and easy identification of the information.
18) Reduction of waste and promotion of hygiene by easy identification of location of container.
19) Used on a variety of articles and materials like plastic, paper, cloth, etc.

Detailed description of Invention with the reference to drawing:-
The foregoing objects of the invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with prior art techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention described in the present embodiment.
Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein; however, it is to be understood that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. It is to be understood that the present disclosure is not limited in its application to the details of construction and the arrangement of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The present embodiment is as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or matter.
The present embodiment is a process for enabling flexible non porous substrate based packaging and labeling through a specially designed chemical process in order to carry the scratch off substance. This process enables non-porous substrate (including all types of polyester fibers) to carry scratch off substance used for concealing text or images for authentication and other applications.
According to a first aspect of the present invention, the scratch-off marking label is typically named as "eSeal coating" which consists of a permanent base having a colored near side normally visible to the user and having a far side containing an adhesive material having a back side. Information recorded on label can be easily read due to the use of contrasting colors and shades between the scratch-off coating and the base color. In the present embodiment, eseal coating is applied on the polyester substrate having a color contrasting with the color of the near side of permanent base visible to the user with sufficient thickness so as to obscure the color of the permanent base. This coating enables the protection of high speed variable data printed on the label, i. e. pins and barcodes and reveals the color of the near side of the permanent base after scratching. It is having a far side containing an adhesive material selected from the group of paraffin or plastic & is applied through rolling, spraying or stamping process with a back side for protection.
The coating remains intact on the container following manufacture, transportation and retailing but is easily scratched off with scratching material such as fingernail or coin in order to make lines by exposing the adhesive surface directly underneath the coating 80. The ease of visibility of the scratched lines is due to the contrasting of color and shade between the scratch-off coating 60 and the color and shade of the container beneath the coating 80. Scratches through the coating can make neat lines because the coating is not chip or flake when it is scratched.
The paper or plastic substrate 40 is in between the scratch-off coating and the adhesive. The adhesive is covered with a paper or plastic backing which is coated as is normally used on "stickers" so as to release easily from the adhesive so that it may be removed to expose the adhesive prior to use of the label. The substrate can be an ordinary label stock which is purchased with an adhesive backing or may be bonded with adhesive or other process to the container during the labeling process.
According to the second aspect of the present embodiment, the dimensions of the scratch-off marking label will vary with the sizes of the containers and the intended uses for the label. For example:-if the label were used on a beer can, the size of the label would be probably 2" high x 1" long.
An additional embodiment of the invention consists of the scratch-off coating "eSeal Coating 2" applied on a paper or polyester substrate with the corner peeled back to expose the adhesive which is applied to the back of the label.
The present embodiment is implemented to record identification or other information on a container. The scratch-off coating in a broad area forms letters, numbers or figures by scratching through the 'eSeal coating 2' to make easily visible pin numbers and barcodes. The lines are preferably made by scratching the surface with a fingernail or a coin or other implement which used to scratch through the 'eSeal coating 2'.The plastic in between the adhesive and scratch off surface is removed to expose the adhesive followed by adhering the label by joining the exposed adhesive.
The embodiments of the invention as described above and the methods disclosed herein will suggest further modification and alterations to those skilled in the art. Such further modifications and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention; which is defined by the scope of the following claims.
