Specification

Secondary Information Device

Field of the Invention:

This invention relates to "Secondary Information Device" and more particularly for a
motorcycle.

Background of the Invention:

Normally a headlamp unit of the motorcycle comprises a headlamp housing having a cavity to house the headlamp, which is generally referred to as headlamp housing front and the rear cover for the headlamp unit is referred to as headlamp housing rear. In conventional motorcycle design a display panel is disposed in the headlamp hosing rear. The display panel displays a rider real time driving information such as velocity and the RPM of the motor and are conventionally not located in the instantaneous field of view of the rider and may therefore constitute a hazard to the rider and to other road users in his vicinity.

Furthermore one more big challenge is how to display several different vehicle parameters within limited display space available and this becomes a problem for small vehicles like motorcycle where the headlamp housing rear space is not large enough to accommodate multiple display panels or indicators.

These conventional motorcycle display panels discussed above have been found involving inconveniences, therefore it is an object of the present invention to overcome this inconveniences.

Brief Description of the Drawings:

The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein

FIG. 1 is a conventional motorcycle.

FIG. 2 shows one embodiment according to the present invention.

FIG. 3 shows another embodiment according to the present invention.

Summary of the Invention:

The present invention has been devised in view of the above difficulty and it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an additional secondary information device at a spaced location from the primary (or main) display unit placed in headlamp housing rear.

Another object of the present invention is to utilize the available space on the motorcycle to locate the secondary information device.

Another object of the present invention is to make it possible to display information which has not conventionally been displayed on main display unit, thereby utilizing the secondary information device sufficiently.

Further object of the present invention is to improve the user interface with the help of display customization.

Further object of the present invention is to improve vehicle aesthetics.

Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.

Detail Description of the Drawings:

A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to motorcycle. Referring to figure 1, the motorcycle includes a body frame composed of a head pipe (101), a down tube (102) extending rearwardly and downwardly from the head pipe (101) and a main tube extending rearwardly and upwardly from the down tube (102). An engine (103) supported to the main tube and the output from the engine is transmitted through a gear system to rear wheel. The said motorcycle body is covered by side covers (104) on either side. A tail lamp unit (105) is provided between the rear centre cover and the rear side cover. The vehicle body can be supported by a main stand (106) or a side stand. Further, a pillion rider step (107) projects laterally from the main tube on each side of the motorcycle body. The motorcycle is provided with a seat (108) arranged longitudinally. A front fork (109) is rotatably supported on the head pipe (101). The upper portion of the front fork (109) for supporting front wheel (110) is connected to a head pipe (101) through a bottom bridge (111) and a top bridge (112). A front cowl (113) or fairing is mounted onto a support structure, which goes into the fork inner of front fork.

A headlight (115) goes into the cavity of the fairing is resiliency mounted to the brackets. Two winkers (116) are mounted onto to two brackets extended from the tube outer of the support structure.

The support structure is assembled onto the front fork inner of the said front fork (109). A handle bar (114) is mounted through a handle shaft to an upper extending portion of the front fork. On the top inner side of the headlamp housing front there are two moulded brackets with holes and on the bottom inner side there are two moulded brackets with slots. The headlamp housing front (113) is connected through these brackets and resiliently through rubber bushes to the four arms extending from the cross member of the support structure. The slot in the brackets will enable the headlamp housing front (113) with headlamp (115) to be adjusted in the upward or downward direction. The handle bar (114) extends laterally of the vehicle body, and a right grip and a left grip are provided at the opposite ends of the handle bar. A fuel tank (117) is provided between the handle bar and the seat.

The headlamp housing front (113) is provided with a visor (202). A headlamp housing rear (203) is located in between the back side of the front cowl (113 or headlamp housing front) and handle bar (114).

Referring to figure 2, the headlamp housing rear (203) unites the headlamp housing front 113 (which covers at least the front portion of the motorcycle) and a plurality of individual lamp bodies and main display housing (204).
The handle bar assembly of the motorcycle includes two handle bars integrated by a triangular bracket in between the handle bars. The said triangular bracket or handle bar bracket front space, which is headlamp housing rear (203) is utilized to house main display unit (204).

A secondary information device (205) which is an additional display unit to the main display unit according to one embodiment of the present invention is placed on the said handle bar bracket (207).

Referring to figure 3 and according to another embodiment of the present invention the secondary information device (205) is placed in the region (206) available between main display unit (204) and rear side of the visor (202).

The said secondary information device can be customized to select the type of information such as vehicle online data, logo, name or icons etc.

The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.

We Claim:

1. A motorcycle having a primary display unit, comprising in combination:

a headlamp housing front to which a visor is- mounted; and

a headlamp housing rear to which said primary display unit is mounted;

wherein a secondary information device is disposed in the space between the said visor and the said primary display unit.

2. A motorcycle having a primary display unit, comprising:

two handle bars, each of the handle bars being integrated at a bracket portion; and

the bracket portion houses a secondary information device.

3. The motorcycle having a primary display unit as claimed in claim 2, wherein the said bracket portion is preferably of triangular in shape.

4. The motorcycle having a primary display unit as claimed in claim 2, wherein the said bracket portion is the space between the two handlebars and to the front side of the bracket the headlamp housing rear is located.

5. The motorcycle having a primary display unit as claimed in claim land claim 2, wherein the said secondary information device provide various vehicle related information to the rider.
