Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:-
The present invention is related to paint shop utilities in automobile industry. More particularly, the present invention is related to self cleaning gratings used on the shop floor of paint shop in automobile industry.
BACKGROUND OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:
Gratings inside the spray booth of the paint shop become sticky during the manual painting of vehicle body due to paint deposition on it. Thus, the manual spray painting operation is creating paint deposition over the gratings. This creates fatigue to the painter (operator) while working particularly during the movement above it during painting operation. This spray deposition is sticky in nature and therefore creates hindrance during walking of the operator as the sticky paint deposition gets adhered to the shoes of the operator.
To overcome this problem in the conventional ways followed across the industry, the gratings inside the spray booth are frequently changed more particularly after every 4 hours. These spray deposited gratings are replaced with clean gratings for running the operation. The spray deposited gratings are taken manually outside the spray booth from cleaning purpose.
This conventional practice is time consuming and requires human power for its replacement. Further, this practice doesn't maintain the continuity in the operation that consequently reflects on the productivity of the spray booth. The present invention addresses the drawbacks of the conventional system and provides a novel solution of self cleaning gratings.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:
The main objective of the present invention is to provide a novel self cleaning grating for use in the spray booth of the paint shop.

Another objective of the present invention is to eliminate the sticking of spray deposition to the shoes of the operator and thereby providing him comfortable work area.
Another objecting of the present invention is to reduce the manpower required for operation in the spray booth of paint shop.
Still another objective of the present invention is to provide cost effective solution of self cleaning grates and thereby increase the productivity of the spray booth of the paint shop.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES:
The embodiment of the present invention and the advantages achieved thereby are better understood after reading the specifications in conjunction with following diagrams, wherein
Figure 1 shows the layout of the spray booth with self cleaning grating system therein.
Figure 2 shows sectional view of the self cleaning grating system in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 3 shows exploded view of the water heads and flow of water in the self cleaning grating system.
Figure 4 shows (a) conventional grating and (b) self cleaning grating of the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION:
Self cleaning grating system of the present invention comprises of water source, water lifting pump, conduits more particularly the pipes to carry the fluid, valves, water header and valves for water header. Referring to figures 1 and 2, top coat

coagulation tank is used as the source of fluid (water) to circulate the water in the system. The pump of the system is used to lift the water from the coagulation water tank. The water lifted by the pump passes through the pipes and reaches to the water headers. Each water header is provided with the valve to adjust the flow of water jetting out of the header over the grate. Also the water carrying pipes are also provided with valves as shown in figure 1 to regulate the flow of water. The water jetting out of the headers continuously keeps the grates wet and soaked in water flow particularly in the base coat manual painting zone. Since the grates in this zone are always merged with water, the flowing water doesn't permit the paint spray to deposit on the grates. The system doesn't require the separate source of water. The coagulation water tank employed in the spray painting operation in under the spray booth works as the source of water in the self cleaning grating system. The water lifting pump of the system is driven by electrical motor and circulates water from coagulation water tank to gratings and again into same tank for recirculation purpose. Thus, there is no wastage of resources in the system.
The invention provides a low cost grating cleaning system that improves the comfort and morale of the operators working in the spray booth of the paint shop. Since the gratings are always wet due to circulating water, the gratings does not stick to the operator shoes and therefore the movement on the spray booth floor is easy. Paint deposition over the gratings is totally eliminated and therefore it does not become sticky. Grating cleaning cost and manpower required for the job is significantly reduced. Because of the self cleaning grating system, replacement duration of the grating has increased by 2 to 3 weeks as compared to the every shift in conventional system. Use of high jet cleaning machine as used in the conventional system is totally eliminated. The invention imparts the good housekeeping the grates. It also leads to reduction in electrical power consumption as compared to the conventional system.

WE CLAIM:-
1. Self Cleaning grating system in spray paint booth comprising of water source, water lifting pump, conduits more particularly the pipes to carry the fluid, valves, water header and valves for water header wherein each water header is provided with the valve to adjust the flow of water jetting out of the header over the grate; water carrying pipes are provided with valves to regulate the flow of water.
2. Self Cleaning grating system in spray paint booth as claimed in claim 1 wherein top coat coagulation tank is used as the source of fluid (water) to circulate the water in the system.
3. Self Cleaning grating system in spray paint booth as claimed in claim 1 and 2, wherein water lifting pump of the system is driven by electrical motor and circulates water from coagulation water tank to gratings and again into same tank for recirculation purpose thereby eliminating the wastage of resources in the system.
