The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
Semi Exposed- Sliding Fit Type Hinge
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to hinges, more particularly, the present invention relates to a hinge used for joining of two integrated parts which has to fulfill the functional requirement and to enhance aesthetic look also.
Background of the invention:
Switchboard being an essential part of the distribution system has to supply continuous power to various segments like power sector, building and construction sites, big restaurant etc. The foremost requirement of any switchgear product is to work safely and sufficiently for long time. Switchboard consists of many cubicles having number of electrical equipments assembled in it. All electrical feeders engaged in cubicles carry the rated current, so direct or indirect contacts of the person with any current carrying parts should be avoided.
As switchboard has numbers of vertical cubicle arrangements of the multiple sizes, in which fixed or draw out modules are placed. All cubicles are separated from each other and the protection/barrier from font side is provided by the means of doors only. These doors are supported by the vertical structure using hinges.
The foremost requirement of hinge is to hold the door and allow the door to open at certain angle. A hinge assembly including first and second hinge portions that are pivotable relative to one another about the fix axis. Normally, the part that connects the both first & second part is pin, which allows the rotational movement to one part but holding other to its original position. The door is fixed with the movable parts by means of screw or
welding etc. The force balancing component in the hinge assembly is only the rotational part connected with fixed part. Hence the shape and design of hinge should be such that it will withstand the force variation under the demanding conditions of overpressure due to arcing fault and seismic effects.
Objects of the invention
Object of the present invention is to provide a sliding fit type hinge, which enables easy to assemble.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a sliding fit type hinge, which does not require tightening screw/hardware is required for fixing of door with slide hinge.
Summary of the invention
According to the present invention there is provided a hinge to facilitate location of the door to fit completely and cover the board cubicle. The hinge having a first member (50) and a second member (60). The first member (50) having holes (1&2) for fixing two, through opining (4&5) with space (3) therebetween, wherein the holes (1&2) are aligned the first member secured to the fixed member. The second member (60) having a hole (21) configured on a body (20). wherein the hole is in line with the holes (1&2) for passing a pin therethrough to configure a hinge, wherein the second member (60) is disposed on moving member.

Figure 2 shows side view of the first member of figure 1;
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a second member of the hinge in accordance to the present invention; and
Figure 4 shows another perspective view of the second member of figure 3.
Detail description of the invention
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art, techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiments.
The hinge part is associated with the shape of mounting pillar which facilitates the panel designer to place the hinge and so the location of the door to fit completely and cover the board cubicle. The vertical pillar is placed inside of the board and door is lying on the pillar surface which doesn't have any type of fixing. The hinge has a first member (50) and a second member (60). Figures 1 and 2 shows various view of the first member (50) is provided with two variables holes (1 & 2) for fixing with vertical mounting pillar.
The next functional requirement of hinge to maintain the adequate clearance between the door, door gasket and board pillar while opening and closing the door. This is achieved by providing the curved shape (5) to the main hinge to manage required gap with providing sufficient opening door angle. Main hinge is provided with a curved surface (8) at the end of
Curved edge, to provide lock-in facility. Lock-in feature facilitates the door not to disengage in the opened condition, so external forces acting on the door will not results in the opening of door.
Figures 3 and 4 shows various view of second member (60) in accordance with the present invention. Structure of the vertical mounting pillar is such that the main hinge can't be placed outside on the pillar. So due to hinge joining with pillar constraint, the main hinge is fitted on the pillar inside door and another part of a body of the hinge (20) is placed on the door in such manner that it can be seen from outside after closing the door. Hence this hinge is designed with combination feature of both concealed and exposed type.
Cut slots (9, 10, 11, 12, and 13) and cut projections (14 and 15) are provided in the sliding hinge as well as in the door respectively. During assembly, the cut slot (9 and 10) of slide hinge gets engaged with cut projection (14 and 15) of door. Once engagement of hinge is done, cut projection of door guides the slide hinge to get locked with additional flange projection (16, 17 and 18) provided in the door.
The additional flange provided on the door will be positioned in the slide hinge (11, 12 and 13), so the possibility of ingress of any foreign objects like tool, wire or water are eliminated.
Having assembly of slide hinge with door and main hinge with vertical pillar, the joining of slide hinge and main hinge is achieved by using insert pin with alignment of main clutch knuckle (7) and a hole (19). This pin wilt rest in the circular edge slot (4) provided in the main clutch type hinge.
The distance of both knuckle center of slide hinge and main clutch hinge is maintained in order to not allow the disengagement of slide hinge from the door, which eliminates the use of any hardware for fixing of slide hinge with door. After fixing of hinges with doors and pillar, door will rotate about the insert pin axis or knuckle axis. The movement of slide hinge in lateral direction is prohibited by the door flange projections (16, 17, andl8).
Main clutch hinge has lock-in feature , provided with the curved projection(5), which doesn't allow the slide hinge to come out or to move away from the its position in the closed condition. In addition to pin, it also help to maintain the fixing of the slide hinge.
Advantages of the invention:
a. The new designed hinge is consists of main clutch type hinge
(Fig.l), sliding hinge (Fig. 3), connector pin. The main clutch types hinge
is fixed to internal vertical pillar and slide hinge is fitted in the door. The
connector pin is used to connect the slide and main hinge.
b. This hinge provides the combine features of exposed and concealed
hinge.
C. No tightening screw/hardware is required for fixing of door with slide hinge.
d. Generally the spoiling of door gasket can occurs while closing the door, which can spoil the ingress of protection requirement. This is overcome by providing the curved shape (3) to main clutch type hinge, where it provides the sufficient gap for door gasket adhered on the door
surface to rotate with sufficient angle without interfering with hinge, panel, and vertical pillar.
e. Curved surface (3) is extended on the both side of main hinge to
provide more strength to withstand more force/pressure due to
external/internal effect.
f. Simple and easy assembling process reduces the door assembly
time.
g. Slide hinge accommodates the cut slots of curved projection (5) of
the main hinge when door is closed so pressure on the door with its weight
is equally shared by both main and slide hinge.
h. As being the integrated part of whole hinge assembly, slide hinge is assembled with door which enhances aesthetic looks of the board.
i. All parts of hinge assembly can be assembled independently so replacement of any part is possible.
Intended Assembly for the invention:
Step 1: Fix Main hinge to internal vertical pillar.
Step 2: Align the sliding hinge with door cut projection and engage it
with door flange projection Step 3: Insert the connector pin in the hinge hole after inserting the
sliding hinge in the main hinge.
The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the present invention to
the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The embodiments were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. It is understood that various omission and substitutions of equivalents are contemplated as circumstance may suggest or render expedient, but such are intended to cover the application or implementation without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention.
