Full Specification:
The following specifications particularly describe the nature of thisinvention and the description thereof.
Title of the Invention:
"Shaving Device with Comfort Bar"
Technical Field:
This invention relates to shaving devices, modification to shaving heads and more particularly to altering the shape of the top surface of the shaving device.
Definition:
The words "Shaving Device" appearing hereinafter mean any kind of shaving device or shaving system containing a razor or a blade or a razor blade or a shaving cartridge or a disposable shaving razor of any description or any device used for the purpose of removing, cutting or shaving hair on human body.
The words "Shaving Head" appearing hereinafter mean any kind of device or cartridge consisting of a plastic body containing a single or multiple sharp blade edges used for the purpose of removing, cutting or shaving hair on human body.
The words "Comfort Bar" appearing hereinafter means a ridge or a bulging line on the top piece, which lies parallel to the blade edge(s). A representative design of the Comfort Bar is shown as No. 3 in Fig. 1.
Background of the Invention
The double-edged blade and the safety razor dominated the razor blade industry during a large part of the last century. In the 1980s there was an emergence of the plastic cartridge with embedded shaving edge on one side. Thereafter about 2 decades ago, a leading manufacturer of blades introduced a twin blade shaving head which for the first time had 2 shaving edges on the same side of the shaving device. Both the blades were held together in a plastic body and shaved in tandem at the same time. The market readily accepted the product and soon most of the leading manufacturers came to the market with similar products. Thereafter there was a race in developing shaving heads with multiple shaving edges. Now there are shaving systems with 3, 4, 5 and even 6 blade edges on the plastic shaving head.
While the standard safety razor with its double-edged blade does not have any plastic embedding the blade, it is has the safety bar only below the blade. The top piece holds the blade in place but does not touch the face. There is no protecting bar in the razor on the top of the blade. The blade rests on the skin of the face.
The inventor devised a modification to the top piece of the razor to add a safety bar on the top so that the blade edge lies between the line touching the top and bottom bar and the blade edge thereby does not directly rest on the skin. While shaving with the modified device the inventor realised that the top bar, which presses against the skin,
pushed the skin forward towards the blade edge(s) and consequently the skin loosened giving an improved shave with less irritation to the skin. The inventor therefore named the top bar as the Comfort Bar.
The inventor provided for a Comfort Bar to multi-blade fixed and swivel-head shaving devices and found that the Comfort Bar adds to the improvement of shave and elimination of the scratches on the skin resulting in minimumafter-shave discomfort The inventor therefore concluded that the invention provided for a new innovation in shaving device, which is a significant development, which merits to be claimed.
Description of the Product in the Invention
The invention discloses the design of the "Safety Razor with a Comfort Bar" and describes distinguished features of the Product
Prior Art
The safety razor was invented in 1901 by King Camp Gillette and has since then seen many forms. Principally they could be divided into 3 general categories, 3 piece screw fix type, flip open type and the butterfly opening type. But in all the razors the top is always shaped in the form of asmooth arc of circle as can be seen from the cross section of a safety razor as No. 4 in Fig. 2
The basic geometry of the shape of the razor and the way the disposable double-edged blade is mounted in it is the same and unchanged for the last 112 years! The basic shape in cross section is shown in Fig. 2, showing the top piece in No. 4 and the bottom bar in No. 5
In prior art, the edge of the razor blade shown as No. 6 in Fig. 2 rests on the skin of the face as can be seen from No. 7 which is the line of the face.
The blade edge touches the face and not the top piece. There is no double edged safety razor ever made wherein there is a protective bar on the top to prevent the blade resting on the surface of the face.
The tangential line touching the bottom guard of the safety razor with the tip on the edge of the blade does not touch the surface of the top piece. The blade edge crosses the tangential line touching the bottom
bar of the safety razor and its top piece. This shows that the bottom
protrudes out and scrapes the surface of the skin. Safety of shaving with a safety razor therefore depends on the skill of handling it by the user. If the shaver mishandles the safety razor, the face could be badly bruised.
The newer types of shaving devises with single or multi-blade shaving heads do have top pieces, which touch the skin when the shaving head rests against the face. But none of these devises have any ridge or bulging link across the shaving head as provided for in the current invention. The top piece of the shaving device is flattish without any pronounced undulation. There is nothing found in prior art which is in any way similar to the Comfort Bar provided for in the current invention in any type of the shaving devices.
Description of the Invention:
The invention consists of a shaving device provided with a Comfort Bar on the top piece of the shaving head of the shaving device. The Comfort Bar is in the form of a ridge or a bulging line on the top piece parallel to the blade edge. The ridge or the linear bulge which is the Comfort Bar shown in Fig 3 and Fig. 4 as No. 9 and No. 12 respectively, acts as a top safety guard to keeps the blade edge away from the skin when the razor is rested on the face on bottom bar and the Comfort Bar as shown in Fig. 3.
Advantages of the Invention
During the shaving process, the shaver brings an embodiment of the invention in the form of a shaving head onto the face, usually on the left or right side, below the sideburn. The shaving head rests on the face with the bottom bar and the Comfort Bar touching the face. As can be seen from No. 8 in Fig. 3, the blade edges are slightly away from the surface of the skin, but within striking distance of the hair. A shaving stroke\would engage the hair and shave the beard without the blade coming in contact with the skin. If the razor is pressed against the skin, a small bulge is formed on the facial surface and the skin is loosened
between the 2 bars. This bulge causes the blade edge to get further close to the root of the hair and give a closer shave to the shaver.
When the razor is pressed against the skin, the skin bulges towards the blade edges as shown in No. 11 in Fig. 4. The bulge in the skin slackens and makes the surface of the face limp. The limp skin offers no resistance to the blade edge, yields and bends and thus it does not get cut with the blade. The Comfort Bar thus results in preventingdamage to the skin in the form of scratches and bruises. Thereby the after-shave discomfort is almost completely eliminated.
For all those consumers who require to shave without any discomfort to the skin during and after shave, the shaving device embodying the invention is an ideal solution.
For all those consumers who require added safety while wet-shaving for any reason, the shaving device embodying the invention offers a shaving device in which the blade edge does not touch the skin.
For all those consumers who desire to show a gruffy look showing a constant one-day-old beard day after day, an embodiment of the invention where the Comfort Bar is unusually high with a height of 5mm offers an ideal solution for a daily shave.
Process of making the Product in this invention:
The process of forming the Comfort Bar remains the same for the safety razor, disposable single-edged razor and for multi-blade shaving head. The Comfort Bar is created by appropriately hollowing out the die that moulds the top piece. The Comfort Bar thus is incorporated in the design of the top piece and is made automatically on the top piece when it is made.
In case the top piece is metal die-cast, the mould is appropriately shaped to produce the Comfort Bar as a bulging line during the die-casting process itself. In case the top piece is a plastic part moulded in a plastic injection-moulding machine, the mould is appropriately made to produce the Comfort Bar as an integrated ridge or bulging line during the injection moulding operation.
The remaining parts of the shaving device remain unchanged.
Distinguishing feature of the invented Product
The modification to the shape of the top piece of a shaving device by providing the Comfort Baron the top piece is the feature distinguishing the product in the invention from prior art
The product in the form of a shaving device under this invention is distinguished from prior art by the fact that the top piece has a Comfort Bar in the form of a ridge or a bulging line on the top piece of the shaving head above and parallel to the blade edge as shown in Fig 5.
The cross section of the top of the double-sided safety is not an arc of a circle as in prior art. The cross section the top piece of the invention in the case of safety razor has bulges on the curve on either side of the top part. The Comfort Bar on top of the safety razor is shown as No. 14 in Fig. 5. The Comfort Bar on top of a single-edged disposable razor is shown as No. 16 in its front view and as No. 17 in its side view. The Comfort Bar on top of a twin track shaving head with 2 blade edges is shown as No. 15. The Comfort Bar on top of a 3-blade swivel type shaving head is shown in No. 19 in its front view and as No. 18 in its side view.
