Sheet Cutting System

Abstract: Systems for cutting a sheet into a plurality of strips is disclosed. The system 100 comprises a top shaft 106, cutter blades 104 mounted along a length of the top shaft 106, a bottom shaft 112, and a plurality of spacer-ring units 102 mounted adjacent to each other along a length of the bottom shaft 112. Each spacer-ring unit comprises a spacer 108 and a ring 110. The spacer 108 is an annular cylindrical element. The ring 110 has a first annular cylindrical portion 114 and a second annular cylindrical portion 116. The first annular cylindrical portion 114 is concentric and integral to the second annular cylindrical portion 116. The first annular cylindrical portion 114 has a cross-sectional diameter same as a cross-sectional diameter of the spacer 108. The second annular cylindrical portion 116 has a cross-sectional diameter less than the cross-sectional diameter of the spacer 108.

Specification

CLIAMS:1. A system (100) for cutting a sheet into a plurality of strips, the system (100) comprising:
a top shaft (106);
a plurality of cutter blades (104) mounted along a length of the top shaft (106);
a bottom shaft (112); and
a plurality of spacer-ring units (102) mounted adjacent to each other along a length of the bottom shaft (112),
wherein each spacer-ring unit, from the plurality of spacer-ring units (102), comprises a spacer (108) and a ring (110), wherein the spacer (108) is an annular cylindrical element, and wherein the ring (110) has a first annular cylindrical portion (114) and a second annular cylindrical portion (116) concentric and integral to the first annular cylindrical portion (114), wherein the first annular cylindrical portion (114) has a cross-sectional diameter same as a cross-sectional diameter of the spacer (108) and the second annular cylindrical portion (116)has a cross-sectional diameter less than the cross-sectional diameter of the spacer (108).

2. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the spacer (108) abuts a first planar annular surface (202) of the first annular cylindrical portion (114) at one side, and wherein the second annular cylindrical portion (116) is integral to the first annular cylindrical portion (114) via a second planar annular surface (204) of the first annular cylindrical portion (114) at other side.

3. The system (100) as claimed in claim 2, wherein each cutter blade, from the plurality of cutter blades (104), is aligned to an outer edge (120) formed at an intersection of a curved surface (206) of the first annular cylindrical portion (114) and the second planar annular surface (204) of the first annular cylindrical portion (114).

4. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein a recess (118) is formed between the first annular cylindrical portion (114) of the ring (110) of one spacer-ring unit, from the plurality of spacer-ring units (102), and the spacer (108) of an adjacent spacer-ring unit.

5. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein each cutter blade, from the plurality of cutter blades (104), is at a predefined distance from an adjacent cutter blade, and wherein the predefined distance depends on a width of each of the plurality of strips to be obtained from the system (100).

6. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, to obtain each of the plurality of strips of a width of about 38 mm, a length of the spacer (108) is about 28 mm and a length of the ring (110) is about 10 mm.

7. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, to obtain each of the plurality of strips of a width of about 42 mm, a length of the spacer (108) is about 32 mm and a length of the ring (110) is about10 mm.

8. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein, to obtain each of the plurality of strips of a width of about 50 mm, a length of the spacer (108) is about 40 mm and a length of the ring (110) is about 10 mm.

9. The system as (100) claimed in claim 1, wherein, to obtain each of the plurality of strips of a width of about 64 mm, a length of the spacer (108) is about 54 mm and a length of the ring (110) is about 10 mm.

10. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the spacer (108) and the ring (110) of the each spacer-ring unit are made of stainless steel.

11. The system (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sheet is one of a pre-printed cork-tip (PCT) paper sheet and a plastic sheet.
