Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
The disclosure relates to transformers more specifically the disclosure relatesto a single phase
distribution transformer with reduced weight5 .
BACKGROUND
At present a 25kVA distribution transformer is installed on a single pole due to the weight
restriction. Since the maximum weight of the 25kVA is about 315 kg each.Transformer with
10 higher ratings cannot be mounted in narrow lanes in order to meet the CEA guidelines. Thus
posing challenge for the distribution utility companies to design a high rating distribution
transformer with weight less than 400 Kg to accommodate on the existing pole.
SUMMARY
15 This summary is provided to introduce aspects related to a single phase distribution transformer
with reduced weight and the aspects are further described below in the detailed description. This
summary is not intended to identify essential features of the claimed subject matter nor is it
intended for use in determining or limiting the scope of the claimed subject matter.
20 In one implementation an improved transformer may comprise a thermally upgraded kraft paper
for insulation. The improved transformer may further comprise a natural ester oil bath,
characterized wherein a conservator is absent in the improved single phase distribution
transformer.
25 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING
The detailed description is described with reference to the accompanying figures. In the figures,
the left-most digit(s) of a reference number identifies the figure in which the reference number
first appears. The same numbers are used throughout the drawings to refer like features and
30 components.
Figure 1 illustrates a transformer in accordance with present subject matter.
Figure 2 illustrates a comparison table in accordance with the present disclosure.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
35 The present subject matter discloses a single phase distribution transformer. The single phase
distribution transformer is an improved transformer with reduced weight.
Figure 1, illustrates a transformer in accordance with present disclosure. The transformer 100,
may comprise a transformer housing 14. The transformer housing may further comprise an oil
level 1 gauge mounted on the external side of the transformer housing 14. Further a port 2 may
be provided on the transformer housing 14 for filing or levelling the oil or natural ester in the
transformer 100. Thetransformer 100, further comprises a natural ester oil bath, wherein th5 e
natural ester oil bath is housed within the transformer housing 14.The natural ester oil may have
a flash point of 260 degree centigrade, and a fire point of 310 degree centigrade. The higher
flash point and fire point enables higher safety for the transformer 100, this may further enable
higher working temperature and power rating. The transformer 100, may comprise 70 litres of
10 natural ester oil bath.
The transformer housing 14,may further comprise a pressure relief device 3, wherein the
pressure relief device 3, may be mountedon the external side of the transformer housing 14.
Further at least one primary porcelain bushing 4, 5, may be mounted on the transformer housing
15 14.Further the transformer 100, may comprise of at least two secondary porcelain bushing 6.
The transformer 100, may further comprises thermally upgraded Kraft paper (TUP) for thermal
insulation. The thermally upgraded kraft paper may have a thermal class of 140 degree
centigrade. Further to reduce the weight of conventional transformer, the transformer 100, may
20 comprise a core coil with a current density of 3.5 for winding. Increasing the current density may
reduce the amount of copper in the core coil. Further the transformer 100, may not have a
conservator, thus enabling reduction of at least 40 kg.
Now referring to Figure 2, illustrates a comparison table in accordance with the present
25 disclosure. The table in the figure 2 compares the conventional transformer and the improved
single phase distribution transformer in accordance with the present invention.
I/We Claim:
1. An improved single phase distribution transformer, wherein the improved transformer
comprises a thermally upgraded kraft paper for insulation, an natural ester oil bat5 h
characterized wherein a conservator is absent in the improved single phase distribution
transformer.
2. The improved transformer of claim 1, further comprises a core coil mounted within the
10 improved transformer and submerged in the natural ester oil bath.
3. The improved transformer of claim 2, wherein the core coil has a current density of 3.5.
4. The improved transformer of claim 1, wherein the natural ester oil bath comprises of at
15 least 70 litres of a natural ester.
5. The improved transformer of claim 1, wherein the natural ester as a flash point of 260
degree centigrade.
20 6. The improved transformer of claim 1, wherein the natural ester as a fire point of 310
degree centigrade.
7. The improved transformer of claim 1,is a 100 kilovolt-amps transformer.
25 8. The improved transformer of claim 1, weighs at least 386 kilograms.
