Single Phase Induction Motor Controller

Abstract: A Single Phase induction motor controller (1) Comprising a micro controller (2) Connected to a voltage sensing circuit (3) at the input side thereof and a switching circuit (4) at the output side thereof. The voltage sensing circuit comprising at least four voltage comparators (5, 6, 7and 8), three voltage comparators each is designed to operate at three different voltage ranges and the fourth voltage comparator is designed to operate when the voltage exceeds the upper limit of the voltage ranges. The switching circuit is connected to the main winding (12) of the motor comprising at least three taps (T1, T2 and T3). The switching circuit comprises at least three switches (9, 10 and 11). Each switch is connected to each of the three taps in the main winding of the motor to allow current to flow through the tapped main winding depending on the voltage sensed by the voltage sensing circuit. An auxiliary winding energizing circuit (13) comprising a start capacitor (14) and a run capacitor (15) in parallel configuration and a semiconductor starter switch (16) connected in series with the start capacitor. The output of the energizing circuit is connected to the auxiliary winding (17) of the motor and the switching circuit. The control terminal (18) of the starter switch is connected to the output side of the micro controller. The voltage sensing circuit and the switching circuit are connected to an AC power supply (19). A current sensor (20) for sensing the current in the main and auxiliary windings of the motor is connected to the input side of the micro controller. A speed sensor (21) for sensing the rpm of the motor shaft is connected to the input side of the micro controller. A voltage frequency sensor (23) is connected to the input side of the micro controller and to the AC power supply. An operational status display circuit (22) is connected to the micro controller and a low voltage regulated DC supply (24) for driving the micro controller and the other circuits of the motor controller.
