Smart Compact Structural Instrument

Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart compact structural instrument use for measuring, drawing and displaying the dimension of line, angle, circle and triangle. A smart compact structural instrument for drawing line, angle, circle and triangle, comprise of the ruler, circular protector and a compass in which circular protector is connected at the one end of ruler in the other end the handle and the switch is connected. Plurality of capacitance sensor is connected to the ruler and the circular protector. The main unit which is comprises of a controller, a calculator, a battery, a capacitance sensor, a display, numeric keypad and a sketch holder. To draw/measure line, angle, circle and triangle the main part with the sketch holder moves along the ruler, from the center point to the end of the ruler. The plurality capacitance sensors present in the circular protector and in the ruler sense the dragging and the drawing of the shape of line, angle, circle and triangle and send to the sensor present in the main unit. The main unit receives the data and shows the dimension in the display. The user can enter dimension of shape before drawing the shape and can calculate the appropriate dimension of the shape using the calculator available in the main unit of the smart compact structural instrument.

Specification

Claims:We Claim:
1. A smart compact structural instrument 100 for drawing line, angle, circle and triangle, comprising :
A ruler 113, a circular protector 101 and a compass; wherein said circular protector 101 is connected at the one end of said ruler 113 and a plurality of capacitance sensor 112/108 is connected to the said ruler 113 and the said circular protector 101; and

A main unit 109; wherein said main unit 109 comprises a controller, a calculator, a battery, a capacitance sensor, a display 104, numeric keypad 110 and a sketch holder 102.

2. The smart compact structural instrument 100 according to claim 1, wherein said main unit 109 is placed on the said ruler 113.

3. The smart compact structural instrument 100 according to claim 1, wherein said circular protector 101 said and said ruler 113 rotates by a pin holder 111 to draw and measuring circle or angle.
4. The smart compact structural instrument 100 according to claim 1, wherein said ruler 113 is equipped with a handle 106 to rotate the said ruler 113 and said circular protector 101 for drawing and measuring circle and angle.

5. The smart compact structural instrument 100 according to claim 1, wherein said main unit 109 displays the dimension of dragging by pencil in the said display 104 by collecting dimension from said plurality capacitance sensor 112/108 of the said ruler 113 and said circular protector 101.

6. The smart compact structural instrument 100 according to claim 1, wherein said main unit 109 displays the dimension line, angle, circle, triangle in the said display 104 by collecting dimension from said plurality capacitance sensor 112/108.

7. The smart compact structural instrument 100 according to claim 1, wherein said main unit 109 is movable throughout the said ruler 113 and a screw 103 is connected for adjusting tightness.

The smart compact structural instrument 100 according to claim 1, wherein said sketch holder 102 can move to and fro through a fixed slot 105 on the said circular protector 101 and the ruler 113 to draw line, angle, circle and triangle and said sketch holder 102 is fixed with the said main unit 109.

, Description:(1) FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a smart compact structural instrument use for measuring, drawing and displaying the dimension of line, angle, circle and triangle. More particularly the present invention relates to integration of ruler, protector and compass with a displayer to view the measurement with the help of processor and capacitive sensor.

(2) BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] In the school, college and industries various types of measuring tools are used to measure dimension such as length, breadth or circle etc. Various measuring and drawing tasks are performed by people from all walks of life, e.g. draftsmen, designers, engineers, artists, and children learning geometry. A wide variety of instruments exists to assist such people in performing the various drawing and measurement tasks. Examples of these instruments include compasses, straight edges, rulers, protractors, templates, and french curves. Thus, performance of numerous measuring and drawing tasks has required both proficiency at using a variety of instruments and the physical collection of such instruments.

[0003] The drafting tools currently available in which the protractor compass and ruler functions are combined with attachment of hard flat surface with the help of suction cup or other means. This type of tools is heavy in weight and unconventional to move from one place to another. School students and other user may not easily adapt to the use of such tools, as they do not always have a hard surface to work with. In many measuring device, protector and compass functioned are combined and can be used for calculation of angle and circle making. But this type of instrument has limitation in measuring length. In some instrument protector and ruler function are combined and can be used for calculating length and angle between two lines.

[0004] In many designs the instrument combining the compass function and the protector have display in which it shows a measurement value manually. Mostly in manual display the value showing is an integer with up to some decimal point, so there is scope for mistake. Some instruments are unconventional to move from one place to another due to the size of combination of measuring instrument and the display. Another common problem with existing designs is the crowding of components and the difficulty in perceiving the meaning of the various scales and marks. A person experienced in the use of rulers, protractors, and compasses would be able to understand and use at least some of the existing devices, but it would be more difficult for others, such as children learning geometry. Another problem is the lack of visual indicators to teach the importance of various functions, numbers, and scales.

[0005] A number of different type of the device and instrument for measuring the dimension are available in prior art. Prior art document US5501019 discloses a method for drawing of line, angles, circle and measuring them. The system in this prior art comprise of a elongated plate including a measurement zone having a straight edge to aid in marking straight lines on the surface. The elongated plate also includes visible gradations disposed in the measurement zone generally along the straight edge. Another prior art US20010037581 discloses an apparatus and methods for measuring the angular position of two points electronically. In this prior art one calculator and one display unit is also attach for displaying and measurement of the dimension. In another prior art US20030154608 discloses an instrument which is comprise of a ruler, protector, and compass to measure and drawing angle, line, circle etc. he instrument has a built-in protractor for measuring and drawing angles and multiple rulers for measuring distance and drawing straight lines. The preferred embodiment of the instrument is two-piece with an arm shaped main ruler and a single slide-ruler that freely slides in and out of the main-ruler. A place ring with thumbscrew is attached to the slide-ruler to hold a writing tool such as pencil, pen, chalk or marker.

[0006] However, above mentioned references and many other similar references has one or more of the following shortcomings: (a) Manual calculation of length or dimension; (b) complex tools; (c) Manual intervention; (d) Chances of errors/mistakes when manually operates; (e) limitation in uses; and (f) not ease to use.

[0007] In conclusion, the core of our concept is related to unify the various tools and instrument into one device. However, a similar solution can be perceived to be sophisticated and extremely difficult to implement because of the complexity of the multiple dimension measurement system. We do not intend to unify/expand/replace all of the existent ones, but we are taking an unconventional approach to run our new multi-tasking device in parallel and on top of one or many existing billboard systems. That is, it allows multiple way of calculating and measuring dimension.

(3) SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008] The present invention relates to a smart compact structural instrument which is use for measuring and drawing and also displaying the dimension of line, angle, circle and triangle. In the present invention a circular protector and a compass is connected at the one end of a ruler. A plurality of capacitance sensor is equipped with the circular protector and the ruler to detects/sense the dragging by drawing material such as pencil, pen. A main unit is placed on the ruler which is comprises a controller, a calculator, a battery, a capacitance sensor, a display, numeric keypad and a pencil holder.
[0009] According to one aspects of the present invention, smart compact structural instrument is use to draw circle and angle and measure circle and angle. To facilitate this drawing and measurement on pin holder is connected attached in the circular protector to rotate the circular protector properly. The pin holder is act as center point while rotating the circular protector. One handled is fixed in the ruler which is in the opposite side of the protector. The handle facilitates to rotate the smart compact structural instrument to draw or measure circle or angle.

[00010] According to another aspect of the present invention one main unit is use to display the dimension of drawing geometrical shape and measurement of the same. The main unit collects the information of the geometrical shape from the capacitance sensor. The display displays the dimension when the pencil in the “sketch Holder” dragged in the page. The main unit is adjustable in the ruler and which can be tightened or loose by using a screw and the main unit is also movable throughout the ruler in the present invention. The sketch holder in the present invention is use to placed pencil, pen and other drawing material to draw the geometrical shape. There is fixed slot for the movement of the sketch holder so that the pen/pencil can hold at any place of the ruler or the circular protector.

[00011] Yet another aspect of the invention discloses a smart compact structural instrument which is used to measure, draw and display the dimension of the geometrical shape such as line, angle, circle and triangle. The plurality of capacitance sensor is connected with the ruler and the circular protector to sense/detects the geometrical shape from the drawing sheet. These detected dimensions are displayed in the display in the main unit. The calculator is incorporating with the main unit to calculate the dimension and measurement. The present invention displays accurate dimension of multiple geometrical shapes in the display and it is also a multi-shape (line, angle, circle and triangle) measuring and drawing device. The smart compact structural instrument is user friendly and easy to switch ON/OFF by a switch which connected to the device and located nearby the handle of the present invention.

(5) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[00013] The smart compact structural instrument 100 in the present invention is relates for measuring and drawing and also displaying the dimension of line, angle, circle and triangle. In the present invention a circular protector 101 and a compass is connected at the one end of a ruler 113 and in the another end one handle 106 and a switch 107 is attach. The handle 106 facilitates to rotate the smart compact structural instrument 100 to draw or measure circle or angle. A plurality of capacitance sensor 112 is equipped with the circular protector 101 and the ruler 113 to detects/sense the dragging by drawing material such as pencil, pen. One sketch holder 102 is present to firm attachment of pencil and pen in the smart compact structural instrument 100. The sketch holder 102 is connected with a main unit 109. The main unit is placed on the ruler 113 which is comprises a controller, a calculator, a battery, a capacitance sensor, a display 104, numeric keypad 110 and a sketch holder 102.

[00014] The smart compact structural instrument 100 is use to draw circle and angle and measure circle and angle. To facilitate this drawing and measurement on pin holder 111 is connected attached in the circular protector 101 to rotate the circular protector properly. The pin holder 111 is act as center point while rotating the circular protector 101. The handle 106 and pin holder 111 facilitate the user to rotate or move the smart compact structural instrument 100 to any extent and can draw any shape.

[00015] This smart compact structural instrument 100 can draw and measure multi geometric shapes such as line, angle, circle and triangle. To measure/draw, line pen/pencil are used in the sketch holder 102. The pencil will start from the origin point or the center point. The sketch holder 102 is attaching with the main part 109. To draw a line the main unit 109 needs to move towards the end of the ruler 113. While dragging main unit 109, pencil will move from origin and user can stop according to the required length of the line. The display 104 displays view of dimension of the line while dragging, if dragging stops display 104 number will be stable in dimensions/numbers. This displaying dimensions/numbers are showing with the help of capacitance sensor 108 which is placed under the ruler 113 and main unit 109.

[00016] The smart compact structural instrument 100 is used to measure/draw circle/arc. In Main unit 109 pencil/pen/sketch holder 102 is fixed, pencil will start from origin point is shown in fig 1. The circular protractor 101 is shown in the fig 1. which is below 20mm radius. Also pin holder 111 is shown in the fig 1 is act as a center point while rotating our instrument. This instrument is used to draw from 5mm to 400mm arc/circle. When user need to draw from 5mm – 20mm, the entire device needs to rotate with pin holder 111 stable to support a center point of circle/arc. If user need to draw above 20mm, there is no need of rotating entire device, only ruler 113 can rotate to draw circle/arc. Before drawing the circle/arc the user need to enter a dimension of the circle/arc which can see through display 104. After entering the dimension user can fix main unit with ruler 113 with help of screw 103 for easy function which is shown in fig 1. This displaying dimensions/numbers are showing with the help of capacitance sensor 112 which is placed under the circular protector 101 and main unit 109 to enter the radius. The sensors present in the main unit 109 collaborate with the sensor in the circular protector 101 to measure/draw the radius and the circle/arc.

[00017] The smart compact structural instrument 100 used to Measure/Draw Angle. To draw/measure an angle rotate the circular protector 101 according to the angle need to draw/measure with the help of capacitance sensor 112 connected in the circular protector 101. After taking the angle, user need to draw another line from the origin where the angle is form to complete the angle. The second line is also sense by the capacitance sensor 108 connected in the ruler 113 and send to the main unit 109. The main unit 109 displays the dimension of the final angle and the length of the line use to create the angle. In present invention user can point out where line and angle is required, and can draw a line based on their need, dimensions are displayed in the display 104. The smart compact structural instrument 100 can also use for measure/draw triangle. After measure/draw the angle user need to follow the same procedure to make a triangle. The dimension to draw a triangle can be entered into the main unit 109 according to that the angle between the lines will be calculated and user will draw/measure according to it. Final and measured dimension of the triangle will be displayed in the display 104 of the main unit 109.

[00018] The main unit 109 in the smart compact structural instrument 100 collects the information of the geometrical shape from the capacitance sensor. The display 104 displays the dimension when the pencil in the “sketch Holder” 102 dragged in the page. The main unit 109 is adjustable in the ruler 113 and which can be tightened or loose by using a screw 103 and the main unit 109 is also movable throughout the ruler 113 in the present invention. The sketch holder 102 in the present invention is use to placed pencil, pen and other drawing material to draw the geometrical shape and attach with the main unit 109. There is fixed slot 105 for the movement of the sketch holder 102 so that the pen/pencil can hold at any place of the ruler 113 or the circular protector 101.

[00019] The smart compact structural instrument which is used to measure, draw and display the dimension of the geometrical shape such as line, angle, circle and triangle. The plurality of capacitance sensor 108/112 is connected with the ruler 113 and the circular protector 101 to sense/detects the geometrical shape from the drawing sheet. The plurality of capacitance sensor 108/112 connected with the ruler 113 and the circular protector 103 sends dimension to the capacitance sensor present in the main unit 109. These detected dimensions are displayed in the display 104 in the main unit 109. The calculator is incorporating with the main unit 109 to calculate the dimension and measurement. The present invention displays accurate dimension of multiple geometrical shapes in the display 104 and it is also a multi-shape (line, angle, circle and triangle) measuring and drawing device. The smart compact structural instrument 100 is user friendly and can be switch ON/OFF by a switch 107 which is connected to the device and the switch 107 is present nearby the handle 106 of the instrument.
