, Description:SMART FASTENING SYSTEM FOR DIAPERS USING SINGLE FASTENING STEP
Technical Field
[001] This disclosure relates generally to diapers, and more particularly to a fastening mechanism to adjust diapers on children.
Background of the Invention
[002] Generally, diapers may have a variety of fastening or adjusting techniques that may involve adjusting mechanisms such as Velcro, adjusting belts around waists, sticking flaps, buttons, such as, snapping buttons, and the like. Selecting a diaper with one of these fastening or adjusting techniques may be a challenge. Mechanisms like Velcro and sticking flaps may deteriorate with time, and hence may make the diapers useless. Other mechanisms like adjusting belts may be cumbersome and time-intensive to use, and may also be irritating for a child wearing such a diaper. The easiest and comfortable method to adjust a diaper around a baby may be the use of closure buttons, such as snapping buttons. In addition to the selection of one of the various fastening or adjusting techniques in diapers, selecting the right shape and size of diapers may be another challenge. Diapers usually come in a lot of different shapes and sizes and thus buying diapers for babies may be confusing. Moreover, the daily usage of diapers (disposable diapers) for a baby may be quite large and a green alternative is using reusable diapers. However, reusable diapers are costly and since babies grow fast, investing again in new sizes of such reusable diapers may be wasteful and uneconomical.
[003] Some conventional reusable diapers may solve this problem by providing different sets of snapping buttons, for example – one set along the length and one set along the waist. Also, some of these conventional diapers may include a very large number of snapping buttons all over the material of the diaper.
[004] In some other conventional reusable diapers, length adjustment of the diaper may happen via a panel of 9 – 12 snapping buttons and then there may be a separate set of snapping buttons to adjust the waist. These two different sets of snapping buttons, which may be generally arranged all over the diaper, may confuse parents immensely. Consequently, there are more than 30 possible settings on the diaper that have to be customized as per the size of the baby and the fit of the diaper around its waist. Also, it may also be difficult for a baby to have so many snapping buttons on their diaper, which may cause irritation and discomfort to the baby.
[005] While putting such a diaper on the baby, the parent may first have to size the length snapping buttons and then may also size the waist snapping buttons. Parents may get confused with such a large number of buttons all over the diaper, and thus may end up using the wrong combination of snapping buttons, thereby causing leaks and also rashes on the baby. This method may be confusing, time consuming, and very difficult to do for active babies.
[006] Further, such mechanism may make the diaper very bulky because of the excess fabric that may remain between the baby’s legs in the crotch area. Also, the large number of snapping buttons may make it very unconformable for the baby.
[007] However, as stated before, the adjusting mechanism in these conventional reusable diapers includes a large number of snapping means arranged all over the diaper, and also includes separate steps for adjusting waist and crotch sizes of the diaper around a baby. Such adjusting mechanism on the diapers may be time consuming and confusing for the parents and irritating for a baby.
[008] Thus, there is a need to provide a reusable diaper with an efficient and convenient size adjusting mechanism.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION

[027] Exemplary embodiments are described with reference to the accompanying drawings. Wherever convenient, the same reference numbers are used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like parts. While examples and features of disclosed principles are described herein, modifications, adaptations, and other implementations are possible without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosed embodiments. It is intended that the following detailed description be considered as exemplary only, with the true scope and spirit being indicated by the following claims. Additional illustrative embodiments are listed below.
[028] The present disclosure of invention provides a simpler, easy, and quick to use adjustable fastening mechanism for adjusting and fastening diapers around a child. The adjustable fastening mechanism may include a plurality of fasteners arranged on the diaper such that the adjustable fastening mechanism may adjust the length and waist of the diaper around the child in only one quick action or step. The fasteners in the fastening mechanism may include and are not limited to closing female and male buttons such as snapping fasteners, female and male hooks fasteners, button and loops fasteners, hook and loop fasteners, hook and eye fasteners, tie closures, loop closures, toggle closures, a number of Velcro, and the like. It may be apparent to a person skilled in the art that the fastening mechanism on the diaper may be embodied in any appropriate to adjust and secure the diaper in position, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present disclosure.
[029] The adjustable fastening mechanism may be arranged in rows and columns over a body section of the diaper. In an embodiment, the fastening mechanism may be arranged as two rows around a waist section of the diaper and one row on each side flap of a diaper, to secure the diaper. The construction and design of the diaper with its fastening mechanism is explained in detail in following figures.
[030] FIGs. 1A illustrates an exemplary figure of a folded diaper with a fastening mechanism, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention, while FIG. 1B illustrates an exemplary figure of an unfolded diaper with a fastening mechanism, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. FIG. 1A illustrates a folded view 100A and FIG. 1B illustrates a unfolded expanded view 100B of a diaper 102, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The diaper 102 may have a body section 103 that may further include a front section 105 and a rear section 107 which may have at least one flap 108 on each side of the rear section 107. In an embodiment, each side of the rear section 107 may have more than one flap 108 in order to provide a secure and comfort fit to the child, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention. In the folded view 100A, the construction of the diaper 102 may be such that the front section 105 may be arranged at the front of the child and the rear section 107 may be arranged at the rear of the child, and the flaps 108 may overlap the front section 105 to secure the diaper 102 around the waist of the child, while in use.
[031] Further, as can be seen in the FIGs. 1A and 1B, the diaper 102 may have an adjustable fastening system provided at least on the front section 105 and the flaps 108 of the rear section 107, to adjust and fasten the diaper around the child. It may be apparent to a person ordinary skilled in the art that the adjustable fastening system may be provided on other different sections of the diaper, in order to provide a secure and comfort fit to the child, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention. Further, the adjustable fastening system may include individual fasteners (104 and 106) arranged on the front section 105 and the flaps 108 of the rear section 107.
[032] In an embodiment, the adjustable fastening system may include 1x2 smart fastening system. In this system, the diaper may be sized both along the length and the waist using the same set of fasteners (104 and 106) instead of two separate sets used in conventional reusable diapers. The 1x2 smart fastening system may include two rows of individual fasteners 104 arranged on the front section 105 along the waist of the diaper 102, and one row of individual fasteners 106 arranged on the flaps 108 of the rear section 107. In an embodiment, the row of individual fasteners 106 arranged on the flaps 108 of the rear section 107 may include at least two individual fasteners 106.
[033] It may be apparent to a person ordinary skill in the art that the adjustable fastening system may include more than two rows of individual fasteners 104 arranged on the front section 105 along the waist of the diaper 102, and more than one row of individual fasteners 106 arranged on the flaps 108 on the rear side 107, in order to provide a secure and comfort fit to the child, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention.
[034] Now, while in use, the diaper 102 may need to be adjusted along the waist and crotch (or groin) area of the child. In an embodiment of the 1x2 smart fastening system, when the diaper 102 may have to be adjusted along the length, the 1x2 smart fastening system may simply allow securing any one fastener 104 provided in either of a top or a bottom row from among the two rows of the individual fasteners 104 arranged on the front section 105 depending on the length required. Similarly, to adjust the diaper 102 along the waist, any one fastener 104, provided in that chosen top row or bottom row of the individual fasteners 104, may be selected depending on the waist size. Thus, to adjust a bigger waist size, a fastener 104, in that chosen top row or bottom row of the individual fasteners 104, may be selected which is located within proximity of the fastener 106 provided on the flaps 108. Similarly, to adjust a smaller waist size, a fastener 104, in that chosen top row or bottom row of the individual fasteners 104, may be selected which is located distant away from the fastener 106 provided on the flaps 108. This appropriately selected fastener 104 from the chosen top row or bottom row of the individual fasteners 104 may be referred to as “fastening position” of the diaper 102. Thus, only one fastener 104 may provide a secure and comfort fit of the diaper 102 to the child. Similarly, a fastener 104 may be selected from both sides of the diaper 102.
[035] For example, referring to FIG. 1A, the fastener 106 provided in the one row of the individual fasteners 106 arranged on the flaps 108 may be chosen to be secured at a fastening position 110 that may include any one appropriate fastener 104 provided in the bottom row of the two rows of the individual fasteners 104 arranged on the front section 105. Thus, the fastening position 110 includes only one single appropriate fastener 104, from each side of the diaper 102, that may be chosen according to the waist size and the groin length of the child. The front fastener 106 or the rear fastener 106 may secure with this one single appropriate fastener 104, in the fastening position 110, which may be arranged in proximity or in distance, with respect to the fastener 106, in the selected bottom row of the individual fasteners 104. Thus, the bottom row of the two rows of the individual fasteners 104 arranged on the front section 105 may be selected to adjust the groin length of the diaper 102 around the child, while a proximity or distant position with respect to the fastener 106 may be selected to adjust the waist size of the diaper 102 around the child.
[036] Hence, in only one single and quick action of securing the fasteners (104 and 106) at the fastening position 110, the 1x2 smart fastening system may adjust and fasten the diaper 102 along both of the waist size and the groin length of the child.
[037] While FIG. 1A illustrates securing the fasteners (104 and 106) at the fastening position 110 in the bottom row among the two rows of the individual fasteners 104 arranged on the front section 105, FIG. 2 illustrates securing the fasteners (104 and 106) at the fastening position 110 in the top row among the two rows of the individual fasteners 104 arranged on the front section 105.
[038] FIG. 3 illustrates an exemplary figure of the diaper 102 showing an opened side flap 108 arranged on one side of the diaper, revealing a row of fasteners 106 arranged on the side flap 108, in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. The opened side flap 108 may include at least two fasteners 106 arranged on the side flap 108 of the rear section 107. It may be apparent to a person ordinary skill in the art that the flap 108 may include less than or more than two fasteners 106 in one row as arranged on the side flap 108 of the rear section 107, and may also include at least one row and one column of the fasteners 106 as arranged on the side flap 108, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention.
[039] Also, it may be apparent to a person ordinary skill in the art that out of the fasteners 104 and 106 arranged on the front section 105 and the flaps of the rear section 107, either of the fasteners 104 and 106 may be a female fastener while the other may be a corresponding male fastener to provide a secure fastened fit, without deviating from the meaning and scope of the present invention.
[040] Advantageously, the present 1x2 smart fastening system may make it very easy for parents to understand the fastening system because of lesser number of fasteners arranged on the diaper 102, and including only one fastening or securing action to provide a fit of the diaper 102 around the child. Further, with lesser number of fasteners, the diaper 102 may be much lighter on the baby and may not cause irritation and discomfort to the baby.
[041] The present 1x2 smart fastening system may allow the parent to adjust the diaper 102 along both the length and the waist of the child in only one single action, putting on the diaper 102 on the baby much faster and easier.
[042] It is intended that the disclosure and examples be considered as exemplary only.
