Abstract: This invention is useful for automatic preparation and feeding liquidized food to bedridden elderly, stroke or coma patients through nasal cavity. This apparatus has chambers for storing two types of fluids, one chamber for storing food items available in powder form such as protein powder, a chamber for storing pills or tablets and a chamber for storing cooked solid food items. Grinded and liquid foods are preferred for bedridden patients. So this device has provision for grinding solid food items and pills. Also it capable of mixing water or milk in liquid form with the grinded items. The water or milk is heated prior to mixing with other items in a heater inside the apparatus. It also has a tablet counter to allow only prescribed number of pills to the patients Finally the prepared food item is cooled until it reaches minimum allowed temperature to intake of the patients and flown through the control valve, further the food can be made to pass in the in-let tube via nasal cavity of patients. This device will minimise human effort, work and time in feeding the patients via nasal cavity FIG.l.
3.PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
In order to feed the bedridden patients who are not able to consume food on their own due to stroke or coma or any other similar disorder, the care taker need to prepare food in a dedicated manner. This includes grinding of solid cooked foods, grinding of tablets or pills, heating water or milk, mixing liquid with grinded or food items in powder form such as nutrition powder for liquidation. Finally they need to cool it off to minimum tolerable level of the patient prior to feed it on time through feed pipe made to pass to the digestion system via nasal cavity. Prior arts such as infusion pumps are only capable of intravenous controlled delivery, also they lack automatic grinding, heating, mixing and cooling before feed. Such infusion pumps not used for feeding via nasal cavity a preferred method in most of the bedridden patients. In order to overcome such a problem a system named "Smart food feeder for stroke/coma/elderly bedridden patients'.'.
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION
"Smart Food Feeder For Stroke/Coma/Elderlv Bedridden Patients"
This invention was related to anelectronics/electrical equipment for smart or automated feeding of food items to bedridden patients whose who can intake food only with the help of nasal cavity pipe. This invention belongs to the field of bio-medical electronics. This equipment will assist the bedridden patients with storing their day to day required foods, fluids, nutrition items, and pills.
Preparation and feeding of patients and elders on time need much effort and work. The food need to be feed must be grinded, liquidated and cooled off prior to feed via the pump placed in nasal cavity of the patients. In order to overcome such an issue and minimise human effort and to feed the patient on time, this equipment was innovated. This equipment will feed the patient automatically on the time set to feed. Prior to feed the food items will be processed inside the system. These processes include storing different forms of food items such as solid, liquid, powder and pills form on separate chambers simultaneously. The required food to be feed as mentioned by the care taker of the patient through the control console will be processed by the system by allowing only the required food substance to complete their stage by stage processes. For a solid cooked food to be feed, the system initially pass the food in solid form to the grinding chamber and further it will be mixed with required warm water. The water released from the chamber is warmed
by the inbuilt heater. If powder such as nutrition is needs to be given, then-the
powder is mixed with warm water prepared by the system prior to cooling and feeding to the patients. If liquid is needed to be feed then the same will be heated to be warm for a minimum tolerable level to the patient and feed. If pills are needed to be given, this will be counted before sending to the grinding and mixing chamber. The grinded pills will be mixed with warm water then set to cool before feeding via nasal cavity pipe. The different forms of food items need to be feed to the patients can be stored once a day. As per the console instruction set by the care taker appropriate processes will be carried out by the system automatically and will feed the patient on time. After every feed the end feed valve will be closed by the system.
4. DESCRIPTION
Brief Description of the drawing:
Fig. 1 shows the front crosssectional view of "Smart Food Feeder For Stroke/Goma/Elderly Bedridden Patients"
Brief Descriptions of the preferred embodiments:
The device consist of storage inlets 1,2,3,4 and 5. These storage inlets will be used to place different form of food items. 1,2,3,4 and 5 can be opened and closed manually for placement of food, fluid, powders and pills. 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are storage chambers each one is used to store a particular form of food item. 8 is used for storing food items in powder form such as nutrition powder, milk powder etc. 9 is used for solid cooked food items such as rice, dal, idly etc. that is allowed for patient. 10 is used to store drinking water. 11 is for placing fluids other than water such as milk. 12 is to store medicines in pills form. 6 and 7 are holders to place the system on an elevated stand so that food items flow under the influence of gravity from one stage to the other stage, 13, 14, 15,16 and 17 are control valves controlled by controlling unit 24. These valves will be open for a stipulated time for a duration based on the requirement of time and quantity of the food item stored in their corresponding chambers 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. 18 is the control valve to allow the water to reach to grinding chamber 22. The valve will be closed until the specified ... . -temperature is attained on the water being heated on heater 28. Heating of water -is - -required so that food in powder and powdered pills will miscible freely with water. The valve 19 is used for allowing the pills to grinder section after the pills were counted on the pills counter section 29. The control valve 21 will retain the solid and/or powder form of food until the water reach its heat requirement on heater 28. Once the water is heated then 21 will open so that the contents will be grinded and mixed with warm water. All the grinding and mixing of water to the food is done in chamber 22. After the grinding process over the valve 20 is set open by the controller 24 to allow the food to reach the next cooling chamber 23. In 23 the food will cooled until it reaches a minimum tolerable value to the patient. Once the cooling is complete the control valve 25 will allow the food to pass through it to the feed pipe placed in the nasal cavity of the patient. The prepared food will be feed to the patient through the feed pipe placed in nasal cavity of the patient. Once the feed is complete the control valve 25 will close. Now a flush will be done by opening valve 15 and 18. The water will flush and clean the grinding section 22 and 23. After flushing the water will be let out through the outlet 27. The overall functions such as operating timing, control, duration, heating, monitoring, valve function, cooling temperature and flushing will be controlled by the control unit 24. This 24 has a clock, microcontroller and a power supply unit to power the system and control the system as a whole. 24 lets the caretaker to input the time, quantity and timing.of
feed. 24 has alarm provision to alert the caretaker when the system needs supply of items or manual service etc.
5. CLAIMS
1. We claim that this device will store food items in powder form, solid form, and liquidform or in pills form at separate chambers simultaneously.
2. We claim thatthis device will grind and mix solid food items and pills automatically prior to mixing with warm water or other liquid such as milk.
