Smart Helmet

Abstract: Wearing helmets is the most basic but most important thing to be kept in mind. With nothing else protecting you from serious brain injury, the best safety precaution you can do is protect your head with a helmet. These road accidents cause a series of global economic losses estimated in road traffic damage costs of $518 billion a year. A smart helmet included integrated electronics providing safety and convenience features. Helmet features includes a global locating system, sensor, a mobile communications network device, a small display panel and a microphone. The helmet is aware of the user's location and interactions with the environment. The helmet can provide data to a user, monitor the user's actions and condition, and send information to others about user's location and condition. The present invention is designed for the safety and security of the women. This smart helmet encourages people to wear helmet while driving. Apart from the safety, facilitating the medication at the right time to the victim in case of any accidents is the prime motive of the proposed system.

Specification

The present invention relates to the smart helmet for women’s safety, where if women feel unsafe while traveling can communicate through her helmet and send a signal for help.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[002] The two-wheeler is the most convenient mode of transport. In the last financial year, companies have sold over 14 million bikes across the country. India recorded 1.2 lakh cases of “deaths due to negligence relating to road accidents” in 2020, with 328 persons losing their lives every day on an average, despite the COVID-19 lockdown, according to government data. But every year there is a rise in accidents in two-wheelers, more than 37% of those killed in road accidents in 2019 were two-wheeler riders, noted a Ministry of Road Transport and Highways' report. There are several factors responsible for the rise in the percentage of accidents. Bike safety is not the one you should be compromising on. Wearing helmets is the most basic but most important thing to be kept in mind. With nothing else protecting you from serious brain injury, the best safety precaution you can do is protect your head with a helmet. These road accidents cause a series of global economic losses estimated in road traffic damage costs of $518 billion a year.
[003] Collisions between vehicles account for over 40% of the total number of accidents recorded. Collision may occur in different ways, but one of the most prominent ones is people turning their vehicle without an indication or indicating the wrong direction, which leads to a collision. 40% of the total deaths have been attributed to excessive loss of blood before getting medical help. This is because the issue is found out too late. So, building a device where a message is sent to an ambulance, or any family person could save someone's life within a few seconds of mis-happening. In an era where everyone deserves independence irrespective of gender. women feel unsafe while traveling through any transport medium either public or private.
[004] Accordingly, there remains a need in the prior art for a technical convergence to make the system and method compact, it is in this context that the present invention the smart helmet is developed for providing better results where if women feel unsafe while traveling can communicate through her helmet and send a signal for help. Therefore, it would be useful and desirable to have such a helmet to meet the above-mentioned need.

SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

In addition, a number of materials are identified as suitable for various facets of the implementations. These materials are to be treated as exemplary and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention.
[021] Various parts that are needed to make smart helmet effective are:
1) Microphone: A person wearing the helmet will give command through a microphone placed on the helmet's front part near the mouth.
2) Voice recognition module: Voice Recognition Module, which can recognize as many as 15 voice instructions. we must record the voice instructions group by group. It receives configuration commands or responds through a serial port interface. We can send instructions to the raspberry pi using a microphone with this module.
3) Raspberry pi: This device can do everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do. It is the heart of the project, as it receives instructions from the voice recognition module or pressure sensors, then figures out what operation is to be performed. According to instructions it either turns on/off the indicator’s LED or sends signals to the cloud.
4) Pressure Sensor (BMP180): The pressure sensor BMP180 consists of a piezo-resistive sensor, an analog and digital converter, a control unit with E2PROM, and a serial I2C interface. It delivers the contributed values of temperature and pressure.
5) Cloud Server: Cloud will be receiving input from raspberry pi. After analyzing the input cloud will use an API to send a message. The message will be sent to the respective person according to the situation. Cloud will also be used to store the number of family members, friends, or police.
6) Power: We need power for our raspberry Pi, voice recognition module, pressure sensors, and indicators. So for that, we will be using a pi sugar 2 pro battery which is compact and efficient.
7) Indicator: We will be using orange LED bulbs, which will be placed on the rear and front side of the helmet. LED on left will blink when we speak “left-left” and the right one will blink if we speak “right-right” and to turn them off we will speak “turnoff”. Led will blink 2 times in a second. We will be using orange light because the orange colour has a high refraction index. We will not be using the red led because the red colour is used as a signal for stopping.
[022] FIG. 1 illustrates that the person wearing a helmet will give command through a microphone placed on the helmet's front part near the mouth and then the voice recognition module will recognize the voice and will transmit the information to a raspberry pi.
[023] FIG. 2 illustrates pi sugar battery that is used to give power supply to raspberry Pi, voice recognition module, pressure sensors, and indicators.
[024] FIG. 3 illustrates Raspberry Pi which will give signals either to indicators or to the cloud. When the indicator will receive the command, it will work accordingly. If the input is “left-left” the indicator on left will blink. If the input is “right-right” indicator will blink right and if “turn off” indicator then it will stop blinking. Further, the cloud on receiving command will send a message using API to the respective person. If a person speaks “danger”, a message will be sent to the nearest police station or family member, providing them with the location and pre- programmed message of feeling unsafe. If a person speaks “Help-help” a message will be sent to an ambulance or friends or family member providing them with your location and a message that a person has met with an accident.
[025] FIG. 4 & 5 illustrates indicators that will blink either on left or right as per the command issued to it by the raspberry pi.
[026] The benefits and advantages which may be provided by the present invention have been described above with regard to specific embodiments. These benefits and advantages, and any elements or limitations that may cause them to occur or to become more pronounced are not to be construed as critical, required, or essential features of any or all of the embodiments.
[027] While the present invention has been described with reference to particular embodiments, it should be understood that the embodiments are illustrative and that the scope of the invention is not limited to these embodiments. Many variations, modifications, additions and improvements to the embodiments described above are possible. It is contemplated that these variations, modifications, additions and improvements fall within the scope of the invention
