The following specification particularly describes the nature of the invention:-
2
Over the years, renting of movies recorded on DVDs through network of DVD libraries has been a well established technique to circulate the digital entertainment content to its subscriber(s) according to circulation policies of that particular library.
However, due to the physical limitations of stacking, sorting, cataloging, maintaining and retrieving the desired DVD is a cumbersome and prohibitively expensive proposition. The escalating real estate prices have fuelled to it. Moreover, there is a tendency of loosing or non-returning of DVDs (specifically those DVD which are high in public demand) by the borrower or returning beyond permitted period, or retuning in non readable state.
These intentional or non-intentional act(s) of any subscriber deprives other genuine potential subscriber(s) from enjoying the entertainment of watching highly popular movies. It also diminishes the revenue of the DVD library owner and others who are directly or indirectly associated with creation of the content, DVD manufacturers, supply chain management, overall logistic people inclusive of IP security. Thus all the sub-domains of the content industry are stripped of their due pie of profits leading to the worldwide closure of major DVD libraries.
Majority of the movie watchers then use their human network linkages to privately record the movie DVD to fulfill their demand for entertainment. This leads to piracy. It also causes criminal depletion of valuable major resources in terms of man hours, money, hard disk memory occupancy, potential loss of precious data due to typical threat of viruses or spy ware, machine getting hacked while downloading movies and promotes other such illegal and malicious acts
Beyond Movies and entertainment oriented content, this is also true for any other soft/digitized content whether it be software, data, programs, code or any digitially transferrable media.
To overcome the aforesaid difficulties, the inventors have come out with a novel concept of Smolder Scheduled Stipulated DVD (S3DVD)". With this unique solution any interested user can intelligently access the catalogue of the database of movies/digital content in electronic format, choose his /their own choice of movie(s)/content, schedule its downloading to the nearest or most appropriate or fastest possible downloading location (GPS marking) and best possible outlet (GPS monitored) for shrink wrapped, pre-coated delivery of DVD with chosen but encrypted content. Such DVD will carry time and frequency stamp with IP and IT security tags (active them with smart card) for their further legal usage. Schematic diagram for implementation of the SMOLDER SCHEDULED STIPULATED DVD (S3DVD) system is illustrated in FIG 1.
3
The objective is proposed to be achieved by designing an innovative Integrated Device (eCosk) comprising of a Point of Sale (POS) integrated with/without a DVD burner/stamper, dispenser and/or a secure digital data transfer interface. . As conscious and responsible planet conservative organization, it will also have a e-disposal depository to deposit the certified used DVDs for their eco-friendly recycling against which the depositor or owner of that DVD will be rewarded handsome denomination coupons which can be offset while purchasing Burn on Demand (BOD) DVDs.
The POS units and DVD dispenser can function independent of each other. In some cases they may even be networked by all the current as well as any new future networking technologies. The Kiosk has an embedded high end server, with holding capacity of terabytes of legal content which can be dynamically upgraded by the central server remotely. These kiosks will be strategically located at retail venues, restaurants, banks, malls, or popular and frequently visited location across the globe. The networking of Kiosk will decrease access or action time and enhance rate of downloading of stored content. An optimal bandwidth usage principle will be implemented for smooth functioning of the integrated device.
Entire management of the chosen content can even be done remotely by operating through a portal.
Methodology
Potential user of e-content formally register with the portal by filling the requisite details to become it's authorized member, the same act can be alternatively done through the Point of Sale (POS) machine (eCosk). The registered use will access various databases of the e-content such as movies, sops, serials, periodicals, books, software or any other legal content available at the kiosk or request content that may be unavailable at a given kiosk to be delivered to a kiosk of choice.
While the Kiosk itself will have a significant amount of secure storage, it will be supplemented with a digital catalog that is available from the head end.A dual layer DVD houses approximately 8 GB of data, so content equivalent to about 50000 DVDs can be made accessible per kiosk and with a collective capacity across the integrated network of kiosks only limited by the number of kiosks available.. The said user on freezing the choice of content will be given a smartcard base combination of security tools for remote scheduling of chosen content along with GPS mapped location for downloading and physical burning of the pre-coated DVD. The highly customized DVD will be delivered from the compact elegant and ergonomically designed user friendly, electronically

secured kiosk/dispenser against smart card. This DVD surface has the coating of the patented chemical formulation which on exposure to air starts a timed destruction process and renders the DVD unusable after the time has elapsed.. This timed destruction process thus allows a fixed charge to the consumer for the DVD and content rental and prevent any late fees or additional variable charges and hassels associated with returning the DVDs. . Moreover, revenue goes up due to enhanced usage of the customized content with complete customer satisfaction.
The vendors who wish to distribute their e-content have to formally become legal members of the system. It will help them to distribute their e-content by utilizing this networked resource, conserving costs of distribution to customers, and boosting margins through the use of eCosk network. All the material and financial transactions incurred through the aforesaid network are transparent, secured and efficient along with provision of MIS based report generation. It will help them to switch over from the inefficient traditional channels, business partners of dealer and distribution network and bring them closer to the consumer. Moreover, teir content will have deeper penetration of the consumer market which otherwise be achieved only through large direct marketing spends.
The DVD manufacturers and scrap dealers can become member of the eCosk network and place the order of quantum of DVD scrap for reuse if any there by assisting in minimizing GHG effect. The eCosk will have advanced security mechanism to prevent the theft or misuse of the network; some of these will include, but not be limited to, secure and encrypted digital storage, secure and encrypted delivery of the data, proprietary cataloging and secure identification technique, advanced proprietary artificially intelligent catalog management program. The eCOSK may also have a IP and web enabled infra red camera to capture the photograph of its user for additional security and verification. The system may also have a built in smartness with face identification or biometric sensor to enhance the logging in operation. The eCosk will also have a mix of convential and new age verification technologies to verify the authenticity of the consumer including, but not limited to, credit card verification, credit rating verification, background check while registering, etc.
5
The eCosk network may also be used for enabling social causes and enabling the G2C ( government to consumer services ) by allowing forms, data, notifications, etc. to be burnt to media on demand.
For all category of users the transaction are through credit card and with appropriate e-security installed at all the locations.
