Abstract: The design of a indicator in a machine with multiple shapes and color is claimed here. of a status indicator in a macs of machine through software control rather than The design state The alternative method of displaying hardware is claimed here in this invention. A soft indicator consisting of control through software; a display shape and color for indicator; a method for designing multiple ifable indicator; a cost effective and easily of controlling the status indicator.
THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE
NATURE OF THE INVENTION
SOFT-LED INDICATORS IN TRIP UNIT DISPLAYS
numbered as dated
A) FIELD OF TECHNOLOGY:
1. The present invention relates generally to indicators, such as LEDs, electric bulbs
with colors to indicate the status of any system and more particularly to use of
software to design and indicate the status of any system with mialtiple shapes and
colors.
B) DESCRIPTION OF PRIOR ART:
2. This invention relates to a method and apparatus of indicating the status of a system in use such as measurement units, trip units, and machineries with display unit. The present invention reveals a method of replacing hardwired indicators on systems where there is already a display unit for displaying some other parameter(s).
3. In most of the appliances used in the modern world there is always a light-emitting source, which reveals the status of the machinery or the appliance. The status can be whether the system or the machinery working, not working, switched ON/OFF, communicating with other machine etc., Normally a light-emitting source such as light emitting diode (LED) or a small electric bulb is used. Usually the color of the light source is used to indicate the status of the machinery or the system. Hence for a single status display multiple bulbs may be used in certain requirements.
4. But in many modern world equipments and machinery there is always a display unit for the purpose of displaying other parameters related to the equipment. As an example, to protect the high cost equipments such as the transformers, the
equipments attached to the power line and to prevent from any arc it is quite common that these power distribution system also are equipped with protective devices such as trip units, circuit breakers, fuses etc. These protective devices are attached with a display unit to display the current stams of the power drawn, oscillatory namre of the input power, temperamre of the circuit breaker etc., Typically, when trip units are utilized, they are used to detect more than just one function. To name a few, trip units monitor functions such as over current, power surge, undesired arc in power line etc.,
5. In such trip units the requirement for the status of the trip unit is normally indicated by a hardware (LED) part. This hardware however small may be requires additional cost to the unit. Secondly it adds burden while assembling indicator the unit. Moreover, the shape and color of the indicator has to be fixed and changing it would require re-ordering of the parts and re-assembHng the part into the trip unit.
C) OBJECT OF THE INVENTION:
6. It is the primary object of the invention to invent an alternative method of indicating the status of a machine.
7. It is another object of the invention to invent an indicator, which does not require any hardware.
8. It is another object of the invention to invent a low cost method for indicating the status of machinery.
9. It is another object of the invention to invent a flexible indicator shape and color by using software rather than using hardware.
D) PROPOSED SOLUTION:
10. We propose a novel design in the field of status indicator in any machine, which already has a display unit. The novelty of the design is in using software for indicator rather than using hardware parts such as LED, electric bulb and thereof
11. The desired shape of the indicator is design by manipulating the graphic user interface of the display unit. Part of the display unit is dedicated for displaying the status of the machine wherein different shapes and colors are embedded using software. The pixel intensity of a desired shape and color of the indicating shape is manipulated with software.
E) THE BEST METHOD OF PERFORMNG THE INVENTION
12. To summarize, the scheme presented here is implemented by designing a indicator display in a trip unit. Two shapes, namely, diamond and circle are given here for demonstrative purpose but not limited to these two shapes. User can design any shape and color for the indicator according the requirement.
13. Figure 1 shows a typical LCD display screen in which two soft-LED's (diamond and circle shaped) are shown. The diamond shape soft-LED blinks whenever there is communication between computer and trip unit whereas circle shaped soft-LED blinks on communication with other/supporting device and/accessory. These soft-LED's also works as diagnosis LED's.
14. The scope of soft -LED's does not limited to trip unit but can be implemented on other device.
WE CLAIM:
The design of a status indicator in a machine with multiple shapes and color is claimed here. The altemative method of displaying status of machine through software control rather than hardware is claimed here in this invention.
What is claimed is:
1. A soft indicator consisting of
a display control through software;
a method for designing multiple shape and color for indicator;
a cost effective and easily modifiable indicator;
2) The method of claim 1, wherein said step of controlling the status indicator of a machine in plurality of multiple stams with a single indicator
3. The method of claim 1, wherein said step of controlling the status indicator of a
machine through software is claimed.
4. The method of claim 1, wherein the said step of designing multiple shape and color for
the indicator using which the status of the machine is displayed.
5. The method of claim 1, where in the said step of cost effectiveness is achieved by designing the indicator through software and avoiding using hardware for indicator.
