Abstract: The solar domestic egg incubator is device developed to start hatchery even on small scale . The device use hot water, heated using solar energy .Heat is transferred to incubating chamber by circulating hot water in copper coil fitted inside the incubating chamber. Humidity is maintained by keeping distilled water in open bowl. This device requires less monitoring as contact thermometer is used by which exhaust fan will operate. Solar panel and rechargeable batteries are used to run exhaust and circulatory fan. The device is all ready fabricated and two batches of eggs successfully hatched at 80% success for 21 days. This device will be lowest cost device so that rural farmers can use it easily and incubate required birds eggs on their own.
1. The system developed for incubating fertile bird eggs is a small domestic egg incubator which uses close heat exchange principle by using water heated by solar energy. 2.According to claim 1 the system is developed for incubating 20 fertile chicken eggs in 21 days. However this can be increased up to 500 fertile eggs of any birds. 3.Temperature sensor's are used to maintain temperature and humidity in the chamber.
4. Solar panel of 20 watt and 12 volt rechargeable battery is used to run circulatory fan and exhaust fan inside incubator chamber there by avoiding use of grid power supply .
5. Sensing mechanism used here for temperature measurement is a contact thermometer device , so as to ease the maintenance of temperature along with humidity and to keep system functional as per set parameters.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION.
The following specification particularly describes.
the invention and the manner in which it is tobe performed.
Title-Solar Domestic Egg Incubator
Field of the Invention:
The invention pertains to develop a device which can incubate fertile bird eggs using solar energy. Commercially available incubators in the market uses electric energy and required large batch size. Use of electricity and generator back-up increases operational cost The said invention is a small-scale incubator device, which is heated by making use of solar energy. In case of non availability of sun , provision is made to use other heating method to run the system .
Background of the Invention:
A hatchery incubator must be able to simulate avian incubation by keeping the eggs at an appropriate
temperature and humidity level, for the entire duration of the incubation period. In the case of
chickens, this period is 21 days.
There are many native breeds of chickens available, but they are not reared on a commercial scale.
Commercial hatcheries are mainly used for rearing broiler chickens. Most of the available incubators
are powered by electricity. Unreliability of power supply means that anyone who wants to operate a
hatchery must arrange for a generator or any other means to provide uninterrupted power supply. The
cost of procuring and running a generator requires a only large-scale hatchery operations to make it
affordable.
If small-scale hatcheries can be made to work in an economically feasible manner, then native poultry
breeds can also be popularized. These native breeds are better suited to local conditions, and
possess better immunity to disease. It will reduce dependence of poultry farmers on big commercial
hatcheries.
The said invention seeks to address the issue of energy needs by harnessing non-conventional
conventional energy to help maintain conditions in the incubating chamber.
Objective:
This invention comprises of an incubator, which uses solar energy , hot water is circulated in the
system to maintain required temperature and humidity for incubation of eggs.
This devise is small, domestic, low cost application which can be affordable by rural local community.
Summary:
The said invention has come up with a novel way to address the said problems. The description given hereinafter will provide a brief outline of the present invention/concept.
To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to accompanying drawings, which shows the flow of invention.
Brief Description of the Drawings:
Fig1. System architecture of solar domestic egg incubator. Fig.2 Circuit Diagram of electrical supply inside incubator Photo 1. Solar Domestic egg incubator.
Detailed Description Of Preferred Embodiment;
Refer Fig.1 and 2.
it shows following system parameters as-
1. Incubation Chamber
2. Copper coil
3. Exhaust and circulatory Fan
4. Solar Water heating system
5. Egg Holding Trays with rotation arrangement.
6. Contact Thermometer to control temperature.
7. Distilled water bowl to maintain humidity.
8. 20 Watt solar panel and 12volt rechargeable battery.
9. Wet bulb and dry bulb analog thermometer.
1. The device comprises the above parameters which are closely related to each other for the system to get functional. The incubating chamber is the main processing part of the system which consist of copper coil for controlling temperature by close heat exchange principle. The circulatory and exhaust fans are fixed in such a way that the circulatory fan is used for maintaining the inner temperature of incubating chamber and exhaust fan for controlling excess heat so as to keep system within the specified limits.
2. Copper coil is used here for circulating hot water (Temp-50-55°c) from solar water heater. Length of copper coil is decided by using heat transfer equation-
Q=hAdt,
where,
Q-Volume factor of chamber
h- coefficient factor of heat (h=0.0193)
A- surface area of copper coil.
dt- temperature difference(required temp-actual temp)
so this way the length of copper coil for this incubator comes around 149cm.however this can be
changed as per the requirements varying with eggs category.
3. From Fig.1,the system for holding chicken eggs consist of a tray having slots for holding the 20 eggs at a time(slot of diameter of 46.5mm ), however this can be increased as the per need. A tray is facilitated by a air circulatory hole for proper air exchange between eggs so that respiration process inside eggs will be maintained. At the same time the tray will provide a rotation of 45° without disturbing eggs which is most important for proper egg incubation.
4. A contact thermometer is used to maintain inside temperature of incubating chamber and exhaust is connected to 12 volt battery in series in such a way that if temperature exceeds beyond set limit ,the exhaust fan will get ON automatically. The Air circulatory fan connected to 12 volt battery in parallel and it remains ON continuously during hatching period.(21 days for this system).
5. Proper humidity for hatching (85-87%) is maintained by keeping distilled water inside incubating
chamber in small bowl. Whereas wet bulb and dry bulb analog thermometers are fixed on door of
incubating chamber for monitoring inside temperature and humidity.
6. The height of solar water heater and a copper coil inside incubating chamber is maintained in such a way that a natural flow of hot water will be maintained continuously.
List Of Specifications:
1. The incubating chamber of size 28cmx36cmx23cm made of plastic body and rock wool as a insulator for the system.
2. Egg tray made up of wooden body and acrylic slots on the surface is capable of holding 20 eggs with manual rotation facility of 45°
3 .Exhaust fan connected in series with contact thermometer and 12 volt battery for temperature and humidity maintenance.
4.Copper coil connected to solar water heater is used for circulating hot water through the system. 5.Inside temperature is maintained at 100 ° F (37.5 °C ) by circulating hot water.
Advantages:
1 .Low cost - both initial and recurring
2.Use of a fluid, which loses heat slowly, to form a "jacket" around the incubating chamber means that
heat can be delivered during the night-time as well.
3.Use of solar energy cuts down on energy costs and dependency on grid power which is very
important for rural area, which form the bulk of the recurring cost for a hatchery operation.
4.Low-cost nature will allow the said invention to be used as a cottage industry. This will help serve
many small poultry farmers.
5.The system requires very less maintenance and supervision for system parameters.
Claims:
