FIELD OF INVENTION
[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of electric vehicle, and renewable and affordable energy and particularly, to a solar powered vehicle, especially solar powered bicycle. More particularly, to the solar powered bicycle is to create a pollution free solar powered vehicle, and to reduce total carbon emission created by fossil fuel vehicles.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[0002] Nowadays, energy demand worldwide is increasing rapidly, mainly due to the world population increase and secondly due to the rapid technology advances that are expected to happen in the years to come. The average yearly energy demand increase is a strong function of gross national product, per capita growth. Thus, the present rate of fossil fuel consumption can lead to an insufficient energy supply needed to satisfy world demand after some year. Therefore, the solution to this problem is either to use nuclear power or renewable energy. The nuclear power is not acceptable by the world public at large because of its hazardous effects on the environment. The renewable energy sources are the solution to the world’s energy demand in the 21st century.
[0003] Typically, in India, the bicycles are going to be extinct from the market due to the boom of the petrol and diesel vehicles which are being launched in the market almost every week. But the prices of fossil fuels are increasing day by day and they also cause the pollution. In the present scenario of energy crisis, saving of the power has become a major issue. To overcome the above problems, a solar bicycle has been designed. The solar bicycle is a battery-operated bicycle which runs on the battery power, but the thing which makes it different is its charging features. The major charging point is specified by its name i.e., solar energy. The solar energy is the largest source of energy in the universe which is used now days to produce electricity in all over the world. Here, devices known as “Solar Panels” are used to convert the solar energy into the electrical energy by various means. The solar panel is connected to a control system consisting of various circuits which generate charge to drive.
[0004] General way of charging can also be used for charging i.e., a 220V, DC battery charger, which is basically used to charge a lead acid battery of motorcycles and cars, taking 200V AC supply as an input. Solar bicycle has concentrated its major focus to satisfy the user. Another major advantage in charging point of view is paddling. Just like a normal bicycle paddling has to be done for just 15-20 and the battery well get charged up to 20-22%. After this the bicycle can be operated using this battery power. As solar bicycle is a light weight entity and is as simple and smooth as a normal bicycle.
[0005] Hence, the solar powered vehicle is safe as the speed is not as high as that of a racing motorcycle. Its starting acceleration is low and thus prevent a sudden accident. As the petrol and diesel prices are approaching the peak level and in future it may be beyond the reach of a middle-class persons to use a fossil fuel driven vehicle. Further now a days every person needs a vehicle for transportation, so without vehicle life seems to be incomplete and if the fuel prices rise will not stop at this stage, then it would become a curse for the future generation. So, to check the fuel price rise and to save the fuel for future generations we have to introduce a substitute to it either as alternative fuel or change in operating mechanism of the vehicle. The solar energy is the largest source of sustainable energy which would be present in the future for thousands of years. Thus, the solar bicycle is a very efficient and useful entity for general purpose.
[0006] Thus, it is desired to address the above-mentioned disadvantages or other shortcomings or at least provide a useful alternative.

[0013] The solar panel 120 is a set of solar photovoltaic modules electrically connected and mounted on a supporting structure. A photovoltaic module is a packaged, connected assembly of solar cells. The solar module can be used as a component of a larger photovoltaic system to generate and supply electricity in commercial and residential applications. Dividing the total Watt hours needed to charge the battery by the power coming from the solar panel, get the approximate time: 312Watt hours / 50 Watts = 6.24 hours.
[0014] Further. the solar panel 120 has formed with an LCD for displaying the transferred electricity from the solar panel 120 to the battery 170 such that an intelligent battery regulator is used for regulating the current coming from the solar panel 120 to the battery 170 in case of overcharging the battery 170.
[0015] Further, the bicycle 100 may include a USB port interfaced on the storage battery 170 such that the USB port is used for charging the battery 170; a solar charger controller which is configured to keep the battery 170 from overcharging by regulating the voltage and current coming from the solar panel 120 to the battery 170; and a power inventor configured to change the DC power from the battery 170 into conventional AC power to operate the bicycle 100. The solar panel 120 is configured with 21W waterproof portable camping gear solar powered charger with the USB port. The USB port is allowed to 12V/24V. The power inventor is consisting of 100W AC output portable generator with 3 DC ports, and 1 LED flashlights.
[0016] Hence, the solar powered bicycle is based on the battery and the charging is provided with the electrical ports i.e., 220V AC supply by using a battery charger for DC battery with a charging time of 4.5 to 7.5 hours. The battery is giving an output of 36 V DC which is able to run the bicycle at a speed of 20 to 25 kmph with a variable speed accelerator, with a running distance range of approx. 40 to 45 km.
[0017] The foregoing description of the specific embodiments will so fully reveal the general nature of the embodiments herein that others can, by applying current knowledge, readily modify and/or adapt for various applications such specific embodiments without departing from the generic concept, and, therefore, such adaptations and modifications should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalents of the disclosed embodiments.
