The present innovation relates to development of new process of spot facing of various
sizes with single spot facing attachment fitted with magnet base drill machine.
Background Art
Indian Naval ships and Coast Guard Ships are generally built by GRSE Ltd and
various weapon and sensors are being installed on the ship by weapon shop. Various
weapon and sensors are generally fitted with the ship structure by numbers of foundation
bolts of various sizes. Every weapons exerts a huge backthrust during firing of shell and
proper fitment of foundation bolts is a very crucial in this respect. In this regard spot facing
of foundation holes in back end is a very important activity and also a time consuming job.
We generally use spot facing cutting tool of various sizes available in tool store for spot
facing. There are only one set of spot face cutting tool available in tool store and various
department like engineering, electrical are using same tool. In various occasion it was observed
that spot facing job delayed due to not getting spot face cutting tool of that particular size
from tool store. Then it was realized by weapon shop to develop a spot facing attachment
with magnet base drilling machine to do the spot facing of various sizes hole with a same
cutting tool. We need not to use a particular size spot facing tool for a particular size of hole.
We can use this attachment for a particular range of hole dimentions i.e. from 16 mm to
24 mm diameter of hole. As a result now we need not to depend upon availability of
particular size of spot facing tool at tool store. Ultimately we can ensure to complete the spot
facing job in a time bound manner.

Object of Invention
The primary object of the present invention is to manifest the arrangement and
procedure while doing spot facing on different seats on board ship.
Summary of Invention
The innovation relates to arrangement of spot facing without traditional spot facing
tool of a particular size.
(a) To establish a new procedure of spot facing of various sizes with single spot
facing attachment fitted with magnet base drill machine.
(b) To provide a economical, safe and quality solution for spot facing on different
equipment seats.
Brief Description of the Accompanying Drawings
Fig. 1 illustrates a pictorial representation of the typical arrangement of spot facing
by special attachment in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 illustrates a pictorial representation of the spot facing attachment in accordance
with the present invention;
Fig. 3 illustrates a pictorial representation of the single point cutting tool in accordance
with the present invention.

Detailed Description
During installation of various weapon and sensors on the naval ships there is a
requirement of spot facing of the foundation holes of various sizes. In the event of spot
facing of different hole on the seat spot facing tool is the main cutting tool. Several times it
has observed that spot facing can not be carried out either due to non availability of that
particular size of cutting tool or cutting tool is totally blunt and resharpening of the tool not
possible inhouse. It not only delay the job but also for resharpening or procurement of new
cutting tool has a financial implication.
Inhouse development of the spot facing attachment with magnet base drill machine
not only gives us the full confidence of completing the spot facing job in a time bound
manner but also economical and cost saving as we are using a single tool for several hole
sizes and uses the same tool repeatedly by resharpening the tool inhouse.
In the event of spot facing of different hole on the seat spot facing tool is the the main

Inhouse development of the spot facing attachment with magnet base drill
machine not only gives us the full confidence of completing the spot facing job in a time

hole sizes and uses the same tool repeatedly by resharpening the tool inhouse.

The invention (as Shown in Fig. 1) is an attachment for holding a single point cutting
tool in a sockect and portable arrangement for fixing the socket to the spindle of the magnet
base drilling machine. First we fix the socket with the spindle of the magnet base drilling
machine and tighten it with bolt. Then we place the drill machine at the centre of the hole
and pass through the socket as shown in Fig.2. After that we fit the cutting tool as shown in
Fig.3 in the sqaure hole of the attachment and tighten it by bolt after adjustment of the
lengh of the cutting tool according to the hole size. Generally with a 30 mm long cutting tool
we can do spot facing of 16 mm to 24 mm dia hole by adjustment of the cutting tool. Run
the drill machine and slowly move up the spindle of the drill machine. When the cutting tool
will be blunt after several number of spot facing, just sharpening the cuuting tool and use it
again.

Advantages & Uses of the Invention
(a) Spot facing of a range of different sizes hole with a single attachment.
(b) Need not to use a particular spot facing cutting tool for a particular size
of hole.

(c) A single point cutting tool used for various sizes of hole instead of costly spot
facing tool of different sizes resulting most economical procedure.
(d) Dependency on tools store for a particular size of spot facing tool can be
avoided.
The above embodiments of the present invention are only expressed in several
embodiments, and detailed description thereof is more specific, but cannot therefore be
understood as limiting the scope of the present patent disclosure. It should be noted that
those of ordinary skill in the art, without departing from the concepts of the present invention
is the premise of the present invention a modifies chevron configuration to the chevron tube
precipitation tube assembly may be made of several different types and sizes and variations
thereof and modifications, which are within the scope of protection of the present invention.
Accordingly, the scope of the present invention should be defined by the appended patent
claims.

We claim:
1. A spot facing attachment with magnet base drill machine comprising of:
an attachment for holding a single point cutting tool in a sockect and portable
arrangement for fixing the socket to the spindle of the magnet base drilling machine;
wherein the socket is fixed with the spindle of the magnet base drilling machine and
tightened with bolt and the drill machine is placed at the centre of the hole and pass through
the socket; and
the cutting tool is fit in a sqaure hole of the said attachment and tightened by bolt
after adjustment of the lengh of the cutting tool with respect to the hole size.
2. The spot facing attachment as claimed in Claim 1, wherein during operation,
the drill machine is run and slowly moved up the spindle of the drill machine.
3. The spot facing attachment as claimed in Claim 1, wherein during operation,
when the cutting tool is blunt after several number of spot facing, the cuuting tool is re-
sharpened and used again.

4. The spot facing attachment as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a 30 mm long
cutting tool is configured for spot facing of 16 mm to 24 mm dia hole by adjustment of the
cutting tool.
