Spot Welding Fixture With Electrode

Abstract: The Present Invention relates generally to spot welding and particularly to a novel device for guiding the electrodes, concentrating the heat at the point of the weld, as dissipating heat that is conducted to other areas of the work pieces. A spot welding fixture with electrodes is use to hold the work pieces to be weld which are thin sheet metal components for spot welding. Spot welding fixture facilitates the assembly of work pieces at a pre specified accurate position and guiding of electrode to the work piece. The electrodes also fabricated to suit the fixture. Spot welding fixture helps to achieve desired dimensioned accuracy after welding. The spot welding fixture does not disturb the dimensional accuracy of the individual work piece and maintains the pre defined assembly dimension and tolerances after welding.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to fusion of two metal sheet work pieces at a pre
defined point. More particularly, it relates to the spot welding of work pieces at a
particular 10 position and guides the spot welding electrode to the work piece.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In using an electric spot welding, difficulties arise in concentrating the
15 required amount of heat in the zone overlapping metal surface where fusion is
desired. It is also difficult to dissipate the heat from the area immediately
surrounding the desired zone of fusion to prevent warpage of the work piece.
These problems are particularly acute in spot welding of light gauge sheet metal.
It is therefore most important purpose of the invention is to provide a
20 simple, inexpensive device that concentrates the heat generated by the
electrodes to obtain the perfect fusion of work piece at mating points and control
warpage of the work piece by dissipating heat conducted to area outside the
zone of fusion.
Another object of the spot welding fixture is to guide the welding
25 electrodes to the spot welding point and provides rigidity to electrode for
preventing accidental displacement of the welding electrodes during the welding
operation. Its also offers excellent precision welds with a minimum heat zone
which allows welding near heat sensitive components. Spot welding reduces the
mechanical load to a work piece and moreover, it is highly reproducible and
30 creates a weld with clean appearance. It is widely used for the joining of thin
sheet metal components in the area of automotive, micro technology,
telecommunication, packing and medical devices.

SUMMARY OF PRESENT INVENTION
In accordance with one aspect of present invention is to provide a spot
welding fixture that facilitates holding and positioning of metal work pieces at the
5 predefined position in spot welding operation.
In accordance with second aspect of present invention is to provide a spot
welding fixture for accurate positioning of work pieces on fixture.
In accordance with another aspect of present invention is to provide a spot
welding fixture that is simple, inexpensive device to concentrate the heat
10 generated by welding electrode.
In accordance with another aspect of present invention is to provide a spot
welding fixture that has feature to guides the electrode to the work piece.
In accordance with another aspect of present invention is to provide a spot
welding fixture having features that eliminates the possibility of accidental
15 displacement of electrode during welding.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
lighter spot welding fixture to hold the work pieces for the spot welding operation.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
spot welding fixture that facilitates the dissipation of heat from the work zone.
20 In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
spot welding fixture for spot welding operation that can be properly and
effectively utilized to hold, position and guiding of electrode to the work pieces
during spot welding by lesser skilled individuals.
25 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

and descriptive in the description when considered together with figures/flow
charts presented:

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Referring Fig. 1, Fig.2, Fig.3 & Fig.4 to the detail, there is illustrated a
preferred embodiment of the present invention as it would be used in a spot
welding operation, designated generally by reference numeral 11. 5 . Spot welding
fixture 11 is designed to hold the sheet metal work pieces 12, 13 in the fixture at
the predetermined position and support the work pieces.
Spot welding fixture 11 includes a generally holding plate 1 of SRBF.
Holding plate 1 has two parallel surfaces, designated as surface A and surface
10 B. holding pate also have four countersinks through holes 14 made used for the
fixing of holding plate 1 with guide plate 2.One through threaded hole 17 and two
through hole 19 are also made in the holding plate 1 for the attachment of
position block 3 with holding plate 1.holding block also houses the locating pin 6
and diamond pin 7 in the two counter bore hole 15 made for the purpose.
15 Spot welding Fixture 11 Comprises a Guide Plate 2 made of stainless
steel fixed with the surface B of Holding Plate 1 with four countersink screws
8.four countersinks through holes 14 in holding block and four threaded hole 16
in guide plate 2 ensures the proper alignment and rigid fixing of the holding block
1 and guide block 2 together. Guide Plate 2 properly guides the Lower Electrode
20 5 in it at four positions.
A Position Block 3 of SRBF which is fixed on the surface A of the holding
plate 1 with the Allen head screw 9. Two dowel pins 10 are used to locate the
position block on the surface A of the holding block 1. Position block is used to
accurately position the work piece 13 with the respect to another work piece 12
25 before welding.
Spot welding Fixture 11 comprises an upper electrode 4 of Tungsten
Copper which is fixed with spot welding machine and guided in guide plate 2 to
the required Position. Spot welding fixture 11 has a lower electrode 5 of
Tungsten Copper which is fixed with M/C.
30 A locating pin 6 and Diamond Pin 7, fixed in the counter bore hole 15
made in the Holding Plate 1 used to locate the work piece 12 in fixture.
Spot welding Fixture 11 Comprises a countersink screw 8 which used to
clamp holding Plate 1 and Guide Plate 2 together through threaded Holes 16
made in Guide Plate 2.

Spot welding Fixture 11 Comprises an Allen Screw 9 used to fix the
position block 3 with holding plate 1 through threaded Hole 17. A dowel pin 10 is
used to position the position block 3 on Holding Plate 1.

The details may be varied substantially without departing from the spirit of the invention, and exclusive use of all modifications which are within the scope of the appended claims is reserved. We Claim

1. A fixture used for the spot welding of work pieces at a particular predefined position and guides the spot welding electrode to the work piece. The spot welding fixture with electrode comprising:
- Holding plate used to hold the work piece and houses other sub component of the fixture.
- Guide plate that guide the electrode to the work piece and prevents displacement of electrode during welding.
- Position Block that position the one of the work piece to be spot welded.
- Upper and Lower electrode for concentrating the heat at welding point.
- Locating Pin and diamond pin for positioning of the other work piece to be welded.
2. The Spot welding fixture with electrode of claim 1 wherein, holding block that holds other sub component of fixture and work pieces to be welded..
3. The Spot welding fixture with electrode of claim 1 wherein, Guide plate that guide the welding electrode to the work piece and eliminate the chance of displacement of the electrode during welding.
4. The Spot welding fixture with electrode of claim 1 wherein, position block to position the one work piece in desired orientation.
5. The Spot welding fixture with electrode of claim 1 further comprising a locating pin and diamond pin for the positioning of other work piece during welding.
6. The Spot welding fixture with electrode of claim 1 further comprising upper and lower electrode for concentrating the heat at the welding point. ,TagSPECI:As per Annexure-II
