(b) NATIONALITY: Indian Company registered under the
provisions of the Companies Act-1956.
(c) ADDRESS: Larsen & Toubro Limited
Electrical & Automation North Wing, Gate 7, Level 0, Powai Campus, Saki Vihar Road, Mumbai 400 072, INDIA
3. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION:
COMPLETE
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.

Spreader Lug
Field of invention
The present invention relates to a combination of spreader and lug which can be used for all types of links used for electrical transmissions.
Background of the invention
Spreader is used to connect electrical terminals of electrical equipment and switching device for example, circuit breaker. The spreaders are designed to provide an inter-phase clearance.
As described in US Patent No. US2010/0014942 Al and US 2003/0092325 Al, there is a terminal joint between spreader and lug. This terminal joint might lead to energy and current losses during transmission. During replacement of a switching device, initially it has to be unfastened from the lug-spreader link, and then an Allen screw has to be removed from the spreader-breaker joint.
Accordingly, there exists a need to provide a combination of link and lug, which can be used for all types of links used in electrical transmission. Also, there is a need of combination of spreader and lug, which can decrease the electrical resistance and increase the efficiency of the system.
Objects of the invention
An object of the present invention is to provide a combination of spreader and lug, which can be used for all types of links used in electrical transmission.

Another object of this invention is to provide a combination of spreader and lug, which can decrease the electrical resistance and increase the efficiency of the system.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a combination of spreader and lug, which reduces requirement of raw materia! like copper (Cu) or any other material and is environmental friendly because of reduced material use.
Brief description of the drawing
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a coupling member for connecting all types of links used in electrical equipment in accordance with the present invention; and
Figure 2 shows a side view of the coupling member of figure 1;
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the coupling member in operating condition in accordance with the present invention; and
Figure 4 shows a perspective view of the coupling member of figure 1 in operating condition.
Detailed description of the invention
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art, techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiments.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a spreader and lug, which is combination of spreader and lug for connecting all types of links used for electrical equipments.

Figures 1 and 2 shows various views of a coupling member (20) which is a combination of a spreader (20a) and a lug (20b) herein after referred as spreader lug (20). The spreader (20a) and a lug (20b) are integrated. Figure 3 shows spreader lugs (20) connected to an electric device (30) and a cables/electric wire (10). The cables (10) are directly crimped to the spreader lugs (20). The spreader lug (20) can be fastened to the electrical equipment (30) using an Allen screw thereby avoiding joint.
Figure 4 shows an embodiment of the spreader lug (20) adapted to provide higher inter-phase clearance wherever required. The spreader (20a) of the spreader lug (20) has a curve, which enables to
Advantages of the present invention
1. The spreader lug (20) can be used for all types of links for electrical transmissions.
2. The spreader lug (20) can be used to decrease the electrical resistance and increase the efficiency of the system.
3. The spreader lug (20) saves time during the process of replacing old breaker with new breaker.
4. The spreader lug (20) avoids one spreader-lug joint thereby avoiding the energy loss in form of heat.
5. The amount of Copper (Cu) used as raw material can be reduced, thereby reducing the weight.
6. The spreader lug (20) is easy to install and maintain.
7. The spreader lug (20) can be directly fastened to the breaker using Allen screws.
The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended

to be exhaustive or to limit the present invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching.
The embodiments were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. It is understood that various omission and substitutions of equivalents are contemplated as circumstance may suggest or render expedient, but such are intended to cover the application or implementation without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention.

We Claim:
1. A coupling member for electric wire with a electrical device, the coupling member comprising:
a spreader secured to input/output terminal the electrical device; and a lug extending from the spreader, the lug enables to secure electric wire therein, characterized in that,
the spreader and the lug are integrated thereby reducing energy loses, reduces weight and provides ease for installation and maintenance.
