Abstract: This steel sheet for gas soft nitriding has a specific chemical composition and metal structure. When the sheet thickness is deemed to be t, the sheet width that is the width in the direction orthogonal to the rolling direction is deemed to be w, and the effective crystal grain diameter is measured at seven positions that are at w/8, w/4, 3w/8, w/2, 5w/8, 3w/4, and 7w/8 in the width direction from a width-direction edge part and at a depth position of t/4 from a surface, the average effective crystal grain diameter that is the average of the effective crystal grain diameters at the seven positions is 8.0-35.0 µm, and the effective crystal grain diameter difference that is the difference between the largest and the smallest values from among the effective crystal grain diameters at the seven positions is 10.0 µm or below.
