Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention is directed to steering gear box stopper for gear box stroke
control in automobile.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
In the vehicle, steering wheel is connected to rack bar, which reciprocates
according to movement of the steering wheel so as to stop the front wheels at
full rotation of the steering wheel i.e. for gear box stroke control.
For the aforesaid provision, reference may be made to a known art which is
illustrated in fig. 1. A rack bar (1) is supported by means of a housing {?.). Each
end of the rack bar is connected to an inner ball joint (3, 3'), which is provided
in connection with a tie rod (4, 4') as. shown. Finally, both the tie rods are
connected to one of the front wheels.
Thus, the above arrangement is symmetrical about the vertical axis.
However, it_is associated with the following drawbacks:
- Complicated in design comparatively
- Difficulty in serviceability
- Expensive
Now reference may be made to another prior art as shown'in fig. 2. Here, a
rack bar (1A) is held by a housing (2A). There is a rack stopper (washer) around
the rack bar on either side thereof. A circlip is secured onto the rack bar next
to said rack stopper in order to stop further

movement of the stopper. The washer and circlip on one side of the rack bar is
indicated by (3A).This system is also symmetrical about the vertical axis.
The aforementioned prior art is having some shortcomings, which can be listed
hereinunder:
- It may cause rattle noise
- Maiiufaetuiiiig uunsLainL uwning to requirement of high level accuracy
in dimensioning of the rack stopper
- High cost
- Malfunctioning in case of input torque more than design value.
In view of the above, it is required to devise a novel steering gear box stopper so
as to address said issues of prior arts.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
Primary object of the present invention is to provide steering gear box stopper
for gear box stroke control in automobile which obviates disadvantages of prior
arts.
Another object of the present invention is to provide steering gear box stopper
for gear box stroke.control in automobile which is simple in design.
Further object of the present invention is to provide steering gear box stopper
for gear box stroke control in automobile which is cost effective.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide steering gear box
stopper for gear box stroke, control in automobile which leads to noiseless
operation of steering gear box.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided steering gear box stopper for gear
box stroke control in automobile comprising a rack bar supported by means of
a housing, wherein each end of the rack bar is threadingly locked with a nut in
conjunction with a drag rod to establish connectivity with one of the front
wheels - - —, ,— —
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from
the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying
drawings of exemplary embodiments of invention and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: Conventional inner ball joint housing arrangement for
control of rack stroke in steering gear box.
Fig. 2 shows: . Circlip and washer type design for controlling rack stroke in
prior art.
Fig. 3 shows: Steering gear box stopper for gear box stroke control in
automobile according to present invention.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
The instant invention discloses steering gear box stopper for gear box stroke
control in a vehicle. In respect of this, reference may be made to fig. 3
indicating arrangement for steering gear box stopper. A rack bar (!.') is held by
means of a housing (2').

Both the ends of the rack bar are provided with a plurality of external threads.
There is provision of a nut (N, N') for each end of the rack bar, wherein each of
the nuts is having multitude of internal threads i.e. threads on its internal
surface. So that each of the rack bar ends can be threadingly locked with the
respective nut (N, N'). The nut constitutes nut lock stop. One end o[ one of the
nuts (N') is directed towards the rack bar and other free end of the nuts is
connected with a drag rod (D). Subsequently this drag rod is provided in
connection with one of the front wheels (Left/Right) through a linkage system
(Not shown). .
Thus, the drag rod is required to be made available only on one side of the rack
bar. The front wheel connected to the drag rod via the linkage system is
provided in connection with other front wheel by means of a tie rod (Not
shown).
In conjunction with the above, loctite which is a solution for tight fitment is
employed with both the nuts. This forms a stopper for effectively controlling the
steering gear box stroke. Thus rack stroke is controlled by nut lock stop with
loctite.
Further, the lock nut stopper on drag rod side is implemented for clamping of
bellow thereby eliminating separate clamping part for bellow.
The steering gear box stopper of invention involves less number of parts.
Further, assembly of n u t lock stop is easy comparatively.
Various advantages of invention over the known arts can be summarized
hereinbelow:
- Simplified design
- Noiseless operation

- Cost effective
- Ease of serviceability and manufacturing
- Involves less number of parts, which leads to easy and less time
consuming assembly.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications,
adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments
employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within
the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the
following claims:-
