Abstract: A two wheeler having a radiator disposed on the vicinity of the pivot tube is provided with a steering column opening; a flap provided at the steering column opening; and at least one opening provided in the flap.
Steering System for Two Wheeler
Field of the Invention:
This invention relates to "Steering System for Two Wheeler" and more particularly a flap steering system for a scooter type motorcycle.
Background of the Invention:
Conventionally in a scooter type motorcycle, a cooling system is provided, wherein a radiator is mounted in the vicinity of the pivot tube and above the front wheel. The radiator is located in the front of the pivot tube in order to enable it to receive cooling air during the operation of the vehicle in conjunction with a cooling fan. The radiator is utilized in a vehicle to reduce the heat of the coolant fluid in the circulating system of the engine. Generally, air flow created by a fan or movement of a vehicle passes through the radiator to reduce the heat of the coolant flowing there through.
The radiator along with fan is assembled to the pivot tube (also known as steering column) and is covered by radiator protection covers. The said radiator protection cover which is also the front cover of the vehicle is mounted on to the frame with adequate opening around the steering column for allowing the control cables and wiring harness of different system to pass through it. In this kind of arrangement since the radiator is closely mounted to the steering column and covered by the vehicle styling parts, the hot gas coming out from the radiator finds a direction through this styling parts and escapes from the opening of the steering column. The hot gas after reaching the opening of the steering column further enters in to the handle bar assembly, since the handle bar assembly is also covered by styling parts, the hot gas finds a passage to escape through the gap provided for control lever functioning. When the hot gas or air escapes through the said gap in the control lever, the rider experiences the hotness to his/her hands.
Therefore it is an object of the present invention to overcome the above problem and provide an improved airflow escape path.
Summary of the Invention:
The present invention has been devised in view of the above difficulties and it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide improved airflow arrangement from the radiator.
The other objective of the present invention is to provide ventilation such it deflects and diverts the hot air path in order to avoid entry in to handle bar assembly.
Further object of the present invention is to provide effective protection from water entry through the steering column.
Another object of the present invention is to make effective use of the grill provided at rear radiator protection cover.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a cost effective airflow arrangement.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
Brief Description of the Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
FIG. 1 is a left side view of a two wheeled scooter type vehicle.
FIG. 2 shows the side view of front portion two wheeled conventional scooter type vehicle.
FIG. 3 shows the one embodiment according to the present invention.
Detail Description of the Drawings:
The present invention relates to airflow arrangement of the hot air coming from radiator. The present invention is applicable to scooter type motorcycle where the radiator is located on the front of the pivot tube. The present invention will be explained with a scooter type motorcycle, it will be explained with a scooter type motorcycle. A reference number 1 in Fig.1 denotes a front wheel, 2 denotes a front fork, 3 denotes a front fender, 4 denotes a front cover, 5 denotes a leg shield made of resin or metal, 6 denotes a handle bar cover, 7 denotes a headlight, 8 denotes a handle bar ,17 denotes a rear fender and 18 denotes tail lamp.
The center of the body forms a low floor board 9 for functioning as a part for putting feet and a under cowl 10 which is located below the rider's seat and covers at least a part of the engine, The under cowl is made up of metal or resin. The under cowl is hinged to the seat 11. A utility box 12 opens from the rear end to hinged portion. The utility box 12 is provided under the seat extending longitudinally of a vehicle body and the inside of the utility box has a large capacity so that a large article can be housed. A main frame 14 extended along the center of the body before and behind and made of a metallic pipe and is provided under the floor board 9. A swing type power unit 13 is coupled to the rear end of the main frame 14.
A rear wheel 15 is supported on one side of the rear end of the swing type power unit 13. The swing type power unit 13 is suspended in the rear of a body frame.
The side covers 16 both on left and right sides, covers the utility box 12 and other parts of the vehicle, thereby providing a good appearance to the vehicle.
The said vehicle is provided with a steering system wherein a vertical steering stem is clockwise and counter clockwise rotatably mounted on a top bridge which is further mounted on the upper part of the steering stem, a bottom bridge is attached on the lower part of the steering stem. The said upper bridge is further attached to the handle bar assembly by any means known in the prior art. The said handle bar assembly is provided with front and rear covers. As shown in figure 2, the radiator 201 is disposed on the front side of the pivot tube and the said radiator is covered by style parts. The grill 202 is provided at rear radiator protection cover. In this above said arrangement of radiator, steering column and handle bar assembly with covers, a steering column opening is provided at the top end of pivot tube wherein the top bridge is attached. The said steering column is provided for the movement of the steering column and the cables of various systems which pass through that is allowed a space for flexible bending or movement.
Since the radiator 201 is covered by style parts the hot air surrounding the radiator finds a passage through the steering column to escape. The hot air rises up and tries to escape from steering column and not from the grill 202 provided at the rear radiator protection cover. Once the air reaches steering column opening it tries further to enter the handle bar assembly.
So according to one aspect of the present invention a rubber flap 301 (shown in figure 3) is provided at the steering column opening. The said rubber flap 301 is provided in a manner wherein it snugly fits in to the steering column opening profile. The said rubber flap 301 is provided with openings thereby allowing the cables of various systems 302 to pass through the steering column. The said rubber flap 301 is flexible in nature and thereby allows an extra protection for the cables too. The said rubber flap 301 prevents the hot air from entering the handle bar assembly, thereby diverting and deflecting the hot air towards the rear radiator protection cover wherein a grill is provided.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We claim:
1. A two wheeler having a radiator disposed on the vicinity of the pivot tube
comprises of:
a steering column opening;
a flap provided at the steering column opening; and
at least one opening provided in the flap.
2. A two wheeler as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said flap is preferably made up of elastomer.
3. A two wheeler as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said flap is provided with a shape that matches the steering column opening profile.
